Why does ekkos q return on death but dravens ult doesn't

????

Ekko was updated a bit back to make his q return on death, I remember that but I don't remember the # of the patch. I think draven is just outdated along with talons r.

Draven's blades return to him through the force of his magnetic personality. If he's dead, they have no reason to return and decide to move on, killing all they come across in his glorious name.

Ekko just built his device and designed it specifically to return to him. He just isn't that magnificent.

All boomerang spells should work the same way on death just so that it's consistent.

Melledoneus17 votes

Because Ekko throws a device that returns to him.

Draven's ult, as many people do not notice, actually tag teams with another spinning pair of axes that appear there while the exhausted ones go for a lunch break.

I would believe this.

This post is about why Draven's Ult (2 axes that go across the map in a specific direction) doesn't return once you die, while Ekko's Q doesn't. They both return to the champion, but once Draven dies, and the axes are still going forward, they do not return.

Draven's ult has a second activation option to recall the blades early. I'm guessing that, since it has no technical range (in terms of units), if draven dies it has no backup code to recall the blades since you can't cast abilities while dead. Basically, when the axes reach the edge of the map, the game automatically casts R for you, recalling the blades. When you're dead, it fails.

Siv, talon, gnar and ekko should all the on the same page regarding how their abilities work, as their boomerangs are finite ranged. It would be nice to also have draven's work in the same way. Personally, I think that if they die, the boomerangs should not return (though physically that doesn't make as much sense) simply because it feels more rewarding/it's really cheap when you kill someone and then the boomerang comes back and gets you.

but his ult doesnt even return after striking an enemy champion which it's supposed to do on its own.

draven being dead shouldnt stop it from executing a mechanic as simple as return on hit regardless of death.

underscores2222 votes

But that's my point, since it has the recast to return it sooner mechanic, anything that triggers the return actually counts as the recast. If you're dead, you can't recast, so the attempt fails.

The code needs to be changed so it doesn't work like that (or other abilities need to be changed so they don't recall after death)

For the same reason that Chogath can ult when snared and Darius can't (Just fucking found this out the hardway)

And swain's birds wont target invisible champions but Katarina's ultimate will despite them both being PBAOE skills that function the same way.

Or how Anivia's E on a frozen target and Karthus Q on a single target are counted as crits and reduced by item 3143 But they didn't allow them to benefit from warlords when it was first released as a mastery because they're only crits when it negatively effects them.

Or why it tells you you can detonate Aurelion Sol's Q early but in the tooltip it lacks the text that tells you, you can only do it in his outer limits.

Or how they said Solo Q would be coming back for a month and just said nah fuck it.

Riot seems to lack consistency along with clarity on how things work.

Air Magi1 votes

What, Karthus and Anivia description doesn't calls it a crit, why it the hell gets reduced

UnbeatablePlayer1 votes

Darius can't because his ult moves him :( (but that anivia / karthus thing is pretty stupid.) ((personally I'm fine with it because I hate anivia))

LordKentravyon1 votes

The Darius / cho thing is working as intended. Cho is just short range damage (pretty much biting something in reach) Wheras Darius jumps into the air to dunk some fool. (I.e its mobility + damage can also be used for slight gap closing)

You can still bite something you can reach when snared But you can'tmove and before a magnificant arial dunk.

spaghetii code riot plz ,talon W and R inconsistency..

good question

The Deckowner2 votes

I think it's because ekko's q is a regular spell that is a boomering. most basic boomering spells like ahri q and sivir q does go back when they died.

LSmaster162 votes

I now feel so dumb for trying to dodge all those draven ults after he dies.

Çhåryzård2 votes

Ahri and Gnar's Q's do it too

Let's keep things consistent Riot

1000angrybees1 votes

I think it has something to do with the awkward timing of the axes when they go the maximum distance and when Draven dies before they even get there, but I do agree boomerang spells should always return.

Friendly Ram1 votes

Does ahris q also return?

Sinlaire1 votes

yes

barbarianskull1 votes

Idk, but does ahri's return

SiG DxD1 votes

so is talon R ,only his W was updated ,but they dont give a fk about R ,which is ult

underscores2221 votes

His R is not a boomerang per se, since it sets a ring out and then returns them when he breaks stealth. If he's dead, he can't break stealth, so they don't return.

SiG DxD1 votes

it is a boomerange ,that after 2.5 or stealth end it SHOULD RETURN.

boomerang ,out and limited time then back normally but no ,spaghetti plz

underscores2221 votes

It's not a boomerang in that when it reaches the end of its length it doesn't instantly and automatically return. It's a triggered conditional return, like Draven's R, that is unable to be triggered when you're dead due to the way triggers work.

SiG DxD1 votes

but if you die with sivir Q flying or ahri Q flying ,u cant control either to return it whenever u want! so yeh spaghetti fix

underscores2221 votes

Siv and Ahri are not conditional returns, so it's a different thing (the return is a part of the ability and not conditional on other inputs, such as breaking stealth, time delays, or ability re-activations)
