If someone quits because of a single champion change it is fine but if they quit becasue the game is bad that is a problem.

Bring Morello back to the balance team Riot. Yes there were ups and downs but the game overall stayed fun and worth playing.

EDIT for the actual quote: "I'm OK if someone quits with rage over "my champ got nerfed a lot", I'm not OK if someone quits because "eh, League is getting boring" - the road we'll be on if we don't do something about it."

For those who do not know, Morello use to be the head of the balance team. He is now in another department at Riot but I rarely ever saw people saying they are quitting because of the changes when he was in charge while I see at least 4 or 5 a day on the boards today. Most of these are about how the game is unrewarding to play in it's current state.

Morello was not perfect but he seemed to have a better and more maintainable direction in mind for the game. And I am fairly sure he was gone from the position before Yasuo was added if that gives any info on how long it has been.

I was kind of hoping this was a post about item 3165 and its glorious past. I don't know if it actually had a glorious past, but that's what I expected.

Still, this is pretty good. Dunno who this Morello person is but he sounds like my kind of game designer.

He is the guy that delayed irelia's release, he needed to nerf her, those nerfs context were something like she's too annoying to play against .

Ironically this is the direction every champion is going now it seems. Just for playing competently, even a non-highskill player can maximize a champion's output without much effort.

So rather than fix the "fighter conundrum" the new team seams to have just extended it out to all champions and said "hey they're balanced now". >.> no wonder the game is scaring away older players.

Scaring away? More like exhausted and repulsed. We were scared when feast or famine was removed which was few seasons ago. Once Master tier was added, diamond and plat would be more diluted with less skilled players. Addition of Dynamic queue guarantees that. Prior seasons you couldn't rank up consistently if you thought there was nothing wrong with you/you blamed others. Now, players blindly get lucked out in placements and make it to gold/silver but clearly don't have skills to back that up but think they deserve it. Players who get carried by 4 superior players to get a rank think they deserve said rank. It's not about scaring us away anymore. The game is just one giant chaotic shit show. There's no incentive to play rank as rank doesn't REALLY measure an individual's skill anymore. Without DQ, over 1000 games you could find out your average KDA/CS/tendencies and stats and it would describe in general what kind of player you are. With DQ, you just can't tell anymore especially if said player is spamming premade nonstop and having premades of 4 or more (even 3 really) skews fairness of competition a lot.

Even past DQ though, once in game, the champions are just being designed in ways which have very small learning curves, that plateau very quickly.

When a champion is just given answers in their kit, without any obvious weaknesses, then you have these champions like lee sin, who are just a jack of all trades, and the champion's capability is in many ways less limited by the player's situational awareness and more by the champion's overall power.

AurelionSol is probably the best recent example of this NOT happening. His weakness is blatant, and a good player minimizes this weakness effectively. Then you have Ekko which seems to just do what ever he wants and his kit will bail him out.

Not really, he is an early game focused champion+pick oriented lategame, it's just that the meta is constantly made to to be focused around these strengths(especially early game focused junglers), you actually saw that he is in fact a niche pick in the cinderhulk meta where lategame oriented junglers were more competitive.

Of course now you have kindred, with a stupid early and a stupid late, so she is a higher priority than him.

*Mind you his kit is completely retarded, I don't care how hard you fall off late, crossing a screen across then dragging your opponent half of a screen across alongside half of his hp bar in a matter of half a second is not something which should exist, high skillcap or not.

Congrats you're in the minority of players.

Not everyone from back then dislikes the new game, but it's Theseus' paradox. The game has changed so much, that the people who first started playing it no longer see it as the same game anymore.

Some people will prefer this new game, while others prefer the game that they initially picked up to play.

See you havnt seen the things I have. The old DFG days and pre nerf kassadin. that shit was unfun to play against. The days of dodge runes. When morde was an unstoppable monster. You have to realize the grass is always greener on the other side. I'm sorry people will always find someone to gripe about. That's the type of people they are.

Indeed. People just don't realize how screwy things used to be. I personally skipped out on the whole tank meta. I didnt like leauge during that time so I took a siesta. I didnt bitch non stop.

You are wrong. Not a season one Vet. More like season 2. Yes, things were screwy but you forgot to mention, EVERY SINGLE CHAMPION was OP. It was EPIC. It was fun contrary to your statement saying it was unfun. Kassa? Loool. Jax could dodge fcking fountain shots. Tryn had a 7 sec ult and AP Yi was a thing. It was all bants. Playing a game and laughing your ass off cos you don't know how the fck you are winning with AD Ryze, but hey, you do it anyways, everyday cos you loved it. The game has become the opposite of it. Tryhards everywhere even in ARAM thanks to the need for everyone to feel "pro". People no longer derive fun from playing this. I mean the only thing that made me love this game so much was ranked. Trying each season to surpass my rank in the previous season. Watching tutorials/streams and getting better. After 4+ years of finally achieving what I sought after, I enter the new S6 ranked season and BOOM! There's an S4 player in the enemy team. Come on man! I'm frustrated as hell by the way the game changed. A lot of the changes in the past 2 seasons were unwarranted. I miss old league tbfh.

i disagree the grass is not always greener, while i am new i do have some recollection of these days you speak of due to an older brother who is from s1, and well. he still claims season 3 is the best, season 1 while he found it fun there was a lot of OP.

now onto dq, he was gold s3-4, plat 3 s5, and now hes barely in plat 5 only playing enough to stay there. the new items, the addition of DQ changing it from "carrying 2 people" too potentially "carrying 4 people" has really changed a lot, sometimes for good sometimes for bad. from what ive seen in normals so far it isnt fun being carried while doing nothing all game by four people, and he claims its the same way in ranked.

while this is opinions from two people at the same time, id say a selection of "older" players would agree.

im sorry in the 2 seasons ive been her (joined s4 didnt play s5 at all came back s6) yes they have. just because you dont see it and youre stuck in your opinion doesnt mean what i say isnt true. normals for new players has changed a lot. with this season the only way some people are getting the want to play the game is to destroy new players. what does that tell you?

normals was fun before though, now leveling is terrible dissapointing as you learn NOTHING about how to play, you learn how to get carried. before hand a lot of the time you would play against 2-3, rarely 4 member premades, now im playing against 4-5 member premades that are smurfs and i get shit talked by them, and 3-4 member premades on my team shit talking me as well. before? sometimes happened. now? constantly. in ranked ive heard its the exact same thing.

so how is this better? dragons AMAZING. everything else. not so much.

No i did see those days, i've been playing for as long as you have. I started playing early 2010, i'm not saying that the old game was perfect. I'm saying that the core values of the game were completely different. The current game isn't the same game design wise as the old game. Balance isn't even a factor in this statement.

Reading this really brought back memories of the old forum. Morello's posts were always well thought out and it was clear that he considered many players to be almost equal partners in figuring out what worked and what didn't. Also, just look at that ability to admit faults and make sweeping statements about the game! Could we expect that level of honesty now? Maybe that's why he was "moved".
