1v1 - Broken down to why we need it and how it should be set up
1v1 is the one thing I really want to be added to League, nor do I understand why it isn't added to League. So I'm going to try to get some attention to this subject, break it down to why it would be a great asset to League, and hopefully get some Riot insight as to why it isn't added.
Why do we need ranked 1v1's? Multiple reasons:
- You can test your independent skill
- You can take a break from having to deal with a toxic team
- You can practice a certain champion without have to stay in a 40 minute game to do so
- Competitive teams can better find out who's better than who by looking at their 1v1 rankings (support being exempted obviously)
- Can be played when you don't have time to play a normal game, and if anything ever comes up you don't have to worry about ruining other player's games
- You can try a new champ that you bought without ruining the experience of other players
- It's fun
Now to break these down separately
"You can test your independent skill" Being able to test your independent skill in my opinion is really important. it can help determine which areas you need to improve on when it comes to champion mechanics and knowledge.
"You can take a break from having to deal with a toxic team" I feel like this is an influential one. Riot has done a great job with the community, and I don't see that much toxicity in games, however sometimes it's nice to be able to queue up for a game and not have to worry about it.
"You can practice a certain champion without have to stay in a 40 minute game to do so" This is more aimed towards people who want to climb ranked more. If I wanted to learn how to play Yasuo really well, I can practice him in 10-15 minute games instead of 20-40 minute games. This can be extremely efficient and help players who have trouble learning a champ get better at league.
"Competitive teams can better find out who's better than who by looking at their 1v1 rankings (support being exempted obviously)" This a good one for the competitive scene. While League is about 5% luck (if not less), it's nice to see a person's actual skill. Especially in the Challenger rankings, one guy could be better than the other, but the one guy just got bad teams recently and fell below, making him seem worse than what he actually is. With 1v1 rankings however, teams can determine who is better because the only fault for losing is yourself.
"Can be played when you don't have time to play a normal game, and if anything ever comes up you don't have to worry about ruining other player's games" This is a fantastic one for me. There are times when I really want to play a game of League but I don't think I have enough time. It would be amazing if I could just join a game where it didn't affect anyone if I left (if anything it would make someone happier).
"You can try a new champ that you bought without ruining the experience of other players" Sometimes when I try a new difficult champion like Draven, it is annoying to play your first game and feed. Teammates will get salty and flame at you, when all you want to do is get good at him. I can say this for champions such as Azir. I really wanted to get good at Azir, but it was too much of a hassle to practice when I would only get flamed if I didn't do well. I could do bots but they are too easy; I can't do players because at times they can be difficult, thus resulting in players getting angry and flaming me; and I can't practice in a custom because there is nothing to practice. It would be great to just be matched without one person, and no teammates to harass me when I'm trying to learn something new. Adding to the fact that a mechanic heavy champion like Azir would be more beneficial just hammering down his mechanics first before playing an actual game with him.
" It's fun" This is the most important part. I realize games like URF you want to keep once a year because you don't want people getting bored of it, and in general it's a great business move; but I feel like there are more pros than cons than keeping a Snowdown showdown permanently. You don't have to deal with toxic teammates; you don't have to worry about AFK, Feeders, and Trolls; and you can practice to your hearts content.
Now to break down why ranked 1v1's may be an unappealing idea:
- It may take away from Summoner's Rift
- Getting a ranked border would be to easy
"It may take away from Summoner's Rift" While it may take away players from Summoner's Rift at first; being a new gamemode, I feel like it wouldn't completely dominate the gamemode itself. People would mostly playing this as listed above, they would either lack time or want to practice a champion.
"Getting a ranked border would be to easy" I have thought about this, and decided that 1v1 ranked should look and appear differently than normal ranked. Let me explain:
I propose 1v1 ranked work similiar to the Champion mastery. The higher up in the rankings you are, the more specialized ribbon in the loading screen you get. It could go something like this (these ideas are not what I want them to be, they are only an example, Riot may not want to use the same rankings as normal ranked):
For every game won the same you would for a normal ranked game (minus the maxing at 100)
Bronze 0-100 Silver 101-150 Gold 151-250 Platinum 251-400 Diamond 401-600 Master 601-850 Challenger 851+
These ribbons to appear to the upper right side of the champion border. Displaying their personal skill.
I believe I covered everything I wanted. If anyone has any feedback please tell me. This is something I truly want added to the game and any feedback or improvements possible to this would be amazing. Maybe Riot can see this and I can leave my own mark on the Summoner's Rift?
