Soraka and the new mage items

Is it just me or does this look like it'll be good on soraka:

Cataylist of Aeons New Passive - Eternity: 15% of damage taken from champion is gained as Mana. 15% of Mana spent is gained as Health.

I mean every time she presses W, she's getting 1.5% of her max health back as mana as she damages herself to heal others. That alone is going to push the mana cost on her W to virtually nil. Then there's the mana spent thing negating a tiny bit of her health costs. Hey, I've survived fights with under 20 health before so it happens. Even if she wiffs a star call, she's still getting a little health back too.

Now add this to consideration:

Chalice of Harmony
Passive remade: Increases your Health Regeneration by 100% if your Health % is lower than your Mana %. Increases your Mana Regeneration by 100% if your Mana % is lower than your Health %.

So Soraka can now spam W and get a large health regen bonus if she stays back. Even better when you upgrade to athene's:

New Passive: Gain 15% of premitigation damage dealt to champions as Blood charges, up to 100 to 270 (based on level). Healing or shielding another ally consumes Blood Charges to heal that ally.

Your ult now gives everyone +270 health. Awesomeness.

Now if only Tear refunded her W's health costs.

I agree, it's time to admit that soraka's current kit is extremely problematic and rework her again. Honestly, her old kit was less problematic....

Agreed. I think she could benefit a bit from some of these itemization changes.

I mean SV is going to be better on her. She can upgrade the catalyst into the item with the AoE slow active if she's willing to take on the added health costs (however the extra AP means her Q will heal her more). Athene's will be cheaper and interesting on her as will chalice of harmony.

I think they are putting too much effort into trying to keep her balanced to the point where these new items could only make things worse and make her worse if she gets ahead. With some of these items, I really think she's going to want to transition to more of a mage come mid to late game. Even if it doesn't refund her health costs (and it should to be fair) she could sit on two of the following: tear, chalice, and catalyst and abuse their synergy.

Here's the thing: soraka has always wanted to bully. Even though riot has tried to make her the THE HEALER, she became too passive despite riot wanting her to engage more, so now her last tweaks with the new items coming in are going to make her a bully again.

I'm not against a THE HEALER being in the game, but after all the changes she's been through I think riot needs to admit soraka probably won't work in that role as she never really worked when she was too passive and riot's response to her passiveness has been to make her a bully again.

Does it work that way? I'm pretty sure her heal cost doesn't work as damage for Warmogs (haven't seen it actually, but with the amount of people who were complaining about it I'm certain it works that way), so it counting as damage for Catalyst would be pretty inconsistent.

I think soraka will be pretty much broken by some of the new items...

Yes. Broken in terms of being UP isn't a worry. Broken in terms of being OP is not good.

I'm kind of worried about athene's as it's going to encourage her to build a lot of AP to make her heals bigger. Of course she do more damage with her Qs and her heals will be bigger anyways.

The only good item change is that the rocket belt probably won't be a good idea on her.

I find all of the new items both fresh and well designed, but I think that they will have to hard nerf soraka since her best case scenario would become so strong that she would be just impossible to play against. I mean: as long as a champ is underpowered you can always do something about that, some love taps here and there and he's ok, but when a champ is straight up broken since it far too op nerfing him becomes quite hard, especially when it's op because it's doying it's job too well. Hope riot will be cautious with those changes since I can see a lot of mages either getting too much or too little from the items.

Yes, I find the new items both scary and interesting. So I want to try them out, but Soraka seems like she's going to be a unique case in both her role, her current balance, and how riot always seems to make her either too passive or too aggressive.

Yeah healers in general have this problem, let's hope riot find a way to rework them (again) and finally take the right approach.

well they might make it so that she can't activate it herself only enemy champ damage don't think her heal is counted as damage to herself or her damage to champs would be of the charts to

Linna Excel1 votes

They could, but then you've got a difficult question of fairness vs balance.

HamerDrunk1 votes

no i'm telling you that i think that the hp cost of the abbility's isn't counted as damage same as vlad abbility's arn't damage to him its just a cost of the abbility for the rest i agree with you're point its not about fairness its just the game doesn't count the Z spell health cost as damage
