For all those players who say ranking up through bronze/silver is luck

I just want to let you know that statement is flase and want to share a few of my last games with you.

Quick FYI about me. Played this game 6 years, but really only started trying to actually improve within the last year. Have two accounts in gold with lowest being gold 4. I am by far not a pro at this game, but I have figured out how to rank out of bronze/silver and know the struggle as it personally took me 2.5 years to get out of silver. I started season as a fill (support) main and got from silver 5 to gold 5 playing support. I switched to maining jungle and adc on my second and third accounts. Main junglers are Elise JarvanIV Vi. If you look at my stats you will see I have roughly a 60% win with these junglers on this account with j4s being at 76%. FYI the reason this account has so many games played and still silver is because I use it for dynamic queuing with my silver/bronze friends.

Now there are a lot of lists saying how to get better at the game and how to rank up. Instead of doing that just going to share some quick tips and some of my prior games experiences and what was going through my head.

  1. Jarvan 4 game 4 days ago. My stats: 19-2-11 15:00 kda, 70% kill participation. 208 cs. 3 pink wards laid, 36k damage to champions. This game was honestly one of my best JarvanIV games ever where I received a S+ rating. Although I liked my stats let me explain a little background about this game the stats don't show. First, my team was behind the first half of the game. Every lane was losing. While I farmed jungle and got a couple kills ganking, my team was busy feeding. Instead of raging and flamming my team I concentrated on the game at hand. I took two early dragons with my team, which both happen to be infernal dragons. Now I know we got lucky but the third dragon to spawn was going to be another infernal dragon. Even though the enemy was ahead in towers and kills, they lacked warding and prioritizing dragons. They finally decided they should try and take 3rd dragon as it was another infernal. My team fought for it and I ended up stealing it. So were behind in kills and turrets but now have 3 infernal dragons aka 24% increased ad/ap damage..... Basically only thing that saved us and allowed me to go on a killing rampage. Damn was it fun. Now I know what your thinking "you are extremely lucky 3 infernal dragons spawned". Which is true. But its also true we would have been completely doomed if the enemy team prioritized dragons at all over killing my teammates as we could not fight them 5v5. So always pay attention to what is happening in game and focus on any advantages you may have.

  2. JarvanIV game 2 days ago. My team lost and my stats were: 9-3-2 102 cs, 8k damage done to champs kda 3.67. Now you see this game is a loss and thinking "why you want to show us this game". Well this game is one of those classic games of "literally every lane feeding their asses off". I am sharing this game to say yes this happens and there little is you can do about it. The thing is.... it does not happen every game and if you have 2-3 games like this in a row then take a break because your obviously going to be extremely tilted. Anyways, this game I was minding my business farming and picking off a couple of kills. My teammates fed every lane and kept on feeding. I had a lot of fun as I was 9-1 at one point picking off kills but my team kept trying to fight them for some reason instead of waiting for a pick or a good opportunity to fight. I really thought we had a chance but my team kept fighting and feeding. I have not seen anything like that in awhile. Anyways.. instead of flame I just laughed. Not really sure wtf my team was doing but I just shook it off and knew it was one game and I would win more in the future. Have won the other 2 after that.

  3. Its not in my last games played but I did have a 2-8-6 vi game win a couple of weeks ago. My stats were really unimpressive and I honestly got hard carried. It was one of those games where I did pretty much everything wrong. I channeled my inner bronze and literally dove in on the enemy team probably 4 times that game after my team was already dead. Although we won no one was mentioning "our awesome vi jungle" at the end of the game. It was one of those games where you keep your head down and just move on to the next game praising your teammates for the awesome carry. Its fine to get carried time to time, as long as it not every game. We all have good and bad games.

  4. Last 19 games record is 12-7 = 63% win = ranking up. Some highlighted game in there 19-2-11 j4 win, 11-2-12 j4 win, 16-6-16 elise win, 6-2-9 vi win, 9-3-2 loss. Kda doesn't always mean a lot but these just a few sample games. Most of these games were played vs silver players. I keep hearing carrying in these games is difficult.... but I have not had much problem at all. Generally as many mistakes as your team makes so does the enemy team, you just need to be the consistent factor that takes advantage of the enemies mistakes.

Again, I am not sharing this post to brag just to help and say ranking up is possible, but it does take work. I am also not very good I am a noob like the rest of you, I have just become aware of my lack of skill.

Maybe this post will help one player, which would make writing it worth it.

every LCS player, every higher elo streamer/youtuber/etc, all of them who make smurf accounts, eventually climb at around somewhere where their main account was. Yes sometimes they get bad luck, afks, trolls, feeders, and sometimes they dwell longer at around gold/platinum or even silver. but eventually they go higher and higher.

people who play thousands of games and are still in bronze just belong there so far. and if they make a new account and after 50~ games end up in gold V or something and start saying that "elo hell" exists..., then the reason why they ended up there higher is probably good luck also.

i think it's been debunked long time ago, that eventually with higher amount of games people climb to where they are supposed to be. some fluctuation happens, but it's not impossible.

another problem is that people are ashamed of where they are. everything above platinum III is high elo because that's around ~3% of best players. But even diamond I players are often insulted by masters/challengers for being low, even though the skill level difference between them is so marginally low.

There is an issue and misconception of what "good elo" is. and people think that diamond V is easy and the game only starts from there. While majority of people never leave Silver and Silver has the largest pool of players. I think people should have some fun in this game and enjoy whether they are in gold or silver or even bronze.

Honestly what you said is most important. Having fun is extremely important and not being insulted by your rank. If anything, all your rank says is after x number of games I have been on average playing around this skill level. It gives you an idea of where you are at compared to the population and then you have a choice to use that information however you like. To me reaching gold meant everything. It was a goal I set out on in season 3 and although it may be easy to obtain by a certain portion of the player population, it was a struggle for me. My reason for making this post was for those players who are unhappy with their current rank and have the goal to reach higher. Just like other things in life you have to work for your achievements. Thanks again for your comment you really summed up the actual meaning of ranked and how it changes player to player no matter what elo you are.

I played about 1000 B5 games and shot up to S5 this season with actually a worse KDA than I had in B5, but a much better winrate.

You mean there are actually silver / gold players that think they're good and it's just their teams? LOL

Yeah I'm having a back and forth with a S4 guy that thinks he deserves diamond and it's his teams that prevent it. I think he could be an easy gold if he calmed down and realised he can be a factor in these games but noo it's all about how much of a God he is and how we should all bow before him. Lol.

You are where you deserve to be. There's no way you play 100+ games and stay stuck in silver if you don't belong there. The problem is the player, the sooner they realize that the sooner they try to actually improve.

took me 2.5 seasons haha. After failing silver 1 promos for the 8th time and tilting down to silver 4 I finally realized my rank was my fault and my fault alone. Its amazing how a quick change in attitude can have a large effect.

Exactly, I started in season 4 and got placed in bronze 2. It's about 2 years later now and I'm sitting in Diamond 3 because I knew that every single time I made a mistake that it could lose me the game. So you try to never make the same mistakes again and that's how you improve.
