Looking at current Aatrox's performance (Back down to 46% winrate once again) is just a cry for help. **As it stands, the new kit needs a shakeup and stuff needs to be changed or replaced. No matter how much Riot were to buff him with this kit, he will never hit a average 50% winrate with the nature of this current kit. **If he were to gain any strong buff, it would likely put him over, which would require a nerf, then it would be too weak, so then it would need another buff, and the cycle would be endless. The current balance performance for Aatrox since the rework came out has been this: Two hotfixes on the same patch, and 3 patches consisting of buffs and nerfs, the latter two doing nothing to affect his winrate. No offence to Riot Jag, but whoever he was consulting for help from a "Aatrox" main standpoint was likely not the greatest choice. The fun and identity of a unique kit was pretty much stripped from him, and replaced with the "fun" of Riven's kit, but at a lower quality. If people agree with me on this, then please speak up.

I miss him you guys. Why did they have to make him into a screaming edgelord Riven?

I could make by with the voice. The gameplay just makes me sick every time I play him nowadays. Such a reliable champ in my ranked pool, replaced and made into this...abomination.

if you are still comparing him to riven at this point then you really dont have a right to complain about his current state because its obvious that you have barely if at all played him since the rework

Ragnaveil2 votes

The only reason he's being compared to riven is due to how simliar his kit is to hers. Passive: Enhanced auto via spellcasts (except aatrox gets one, and it has a long cooldown vs Riven who has a charge system) Q: 3 part ability that ends with a AOE knockup. E: a short dash (effects are the only difference). He got two hotfixes on release that ended up not only making him hit 50%, but made him uber strong, so it 8.16 the nerf hammer came in. For some reason he's 48% winrate on OP.GG, and that's concerning because his kit feels FAR from being a 48% winrate kit. His old kit was diver with a clear purpose. This kit? A failed experiment of fusing a Skirmisher kit with a Diver kit. He doesn't feel like his own champion anymore. The "fun" was removed for a low effort riven style kit.

what was fun about old aatrox besides being a discount jax with a free ga every once in awhile. and the purposes that their abilities serve in their respective kits is completely different, nobody is gonna say that cass w and twitch w are the exact same ability because they have different uses even if they do almost the same thing which you cant even say about aatrox and riven. The connection between the two champs was forced by people who looked at the champ reveal and never touched him, im not trying to say that the rework was a success but the people who say its shit because "hurr durr edgy riven clone" dont even deserve to talk about the state hes in

Ragnaveil2 votes

Im not saying he's shit because of being a clone. Im saying he's shit because the kit overall just doesn't mesh period. He use to be a diver, which old Q on multiple people into R press was fun to watch and do. Now its like "Go in, but actually try to not go all in." Like what the hell is that playstyle? 1v2s and 3s were enjoyable as an Aatrox player if you manage to outplay the enemy. I've played the rework multiple times this season over 3 separate accounts, and there has been little enjoyment from it. Most of my winrate on my secondary and this account have been from old Aatrox.

Riven Passive

-Using abilites will cause her next basic attack to deal bonus damage

Aatrox passive

-Next basic attack will deal bonus damage and reduce healing and shields

Riven Q

-Swings sword up to three times, dealing AOE damage and carries her forward. Knocks up targets on the third hit.

Aatrox Q

-Swings sword up to three times, dealing AOE damage and is able to carry him forward. Knocks up targets at the tip of the damage except the third one which is just like Riven's where the knockup is centered.

Riven W

-Stuns surrounding enemies

Aatrox W

-Projectile that can potentially pull enemies

Riven E

-Dash and shield

Aatrox E

-Dash and bonus damage

Riven R

-For a limited period of time, deals bonus damage, grants extra attack range and gains a ranged execute.

Aatrox R

-For a limited period of time, deals bonus damage, grants extra movespeed and gains a revive

EDIT: A downvote for just typing the ability descriptions of both characters*[zombie-brand-clap]*

I loved the avatar of war theme for old Aatrox. Actually the first champion release I was ever hyped for.

Not gonna lie, riot's reworks of champs is mostly dogshit. God knows why. Even if they know that, they still won't revert. Their pride's at stake.

Ragnaveil2 votes

Irelia, although a pain in the ass sometimes, kept and improved the blade dancer concept she was. Swain went from some old creepy dude that turns into a hideous bird, into this handsome Russian with a demon hand who turns into a literal demon. His kit has tactical play to it compared to old. Aatrox was the rework that missed the mark. Not by a little bit, but by the distance from the East Coast of the US to the West Coast of the US size miss. A low playrate balance nightmare that was fun, was changed into a semi higher playrate, balance nightmare that isn't fun to play as. LB was reverted due to some issues, same with Rengo and Kog. It seems Zac and Sej are soon to join that fail list, and i'd agree they are now failed reworks. But if I had to be honest, most of the failed reworks were from Class Updates.

Dat Kat1 votes

That's why I said MOSTLY. Meaning not at all times.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Yeah, I edited the comment because I read your initial one right after posting mine. I agree with you on that.

GayFluffyUnicorn5 votes

Because riot doesn't give a shit about what made them fun to play previously and they don'tgive a shit if they are fun to play afterwards. They circlejerk each others off to retard dumbfuck ideas and implement them no matter how shitty the champ will be.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Yet the playerbase totally cared about the Aatrox mains who were left without a champ. Totally cared....maybe cared? Never cared? That sounds about right, the playerbase really didn't give a shit. The only time they gave a shit was when he was pubstomping people. Once he got nerfed, the community stayed silent on the matter. Just sucks when the original playerbase for Aatrox consisted of a very small few people playing a champ no one cared about. Its not just Riot's issue for this, its everyone.

Ragnaveil2 votes

To add on to this but not continue from the bottom convo we had, they've reverted champs when their hand was being pressed. Aatrox will likely never get reverted or even partially reverted (aka fuse some of old aatrox and some of this new aatrox to make a kit that caters to both) because the vocal people for his behalf are very few in number.

Dat Kat3 votes

I think we can agree that the majority of those who loved aatrox want him reverted. You'd be surprised how many of'em are just silent about it with their hopes down.

Ragnaveil3 votes

And those are the people I want to be vocal on their stance. Staying silent in the matter will do nothing. It took Rengar and LB mains ages to get a revert because their playerbases FINALLY came together to say they want the old version back.

Dat Kat2 votes

Thing with aatrox is he was even advertised with trailers, and hyping videos by riot games on their channel. So for them to actually have to listen to the aatrox mains's feedback and revert aatrox seems a bit impossible because riot's champion designers really do have inflated egos. So much that they can't even see the flaws in their work most of the times.

That's to say, Riot Games's pride > The community

Ragnaveil1 votes

The issue with Aatrox's specific rework was they had "expert" Aatrox player help them in designing this rework and testing it. Starting to think it was PR lie, all to please us Aatrox mains that we were in "good" hands when in truth they legit didn't give a shit and completely scrapped everything but the revive. Whats even worse is that Im only asking for a partial revert, like moving his passive to his W, lower the damage, and slap a missing hp heal on active with the damage. Then lower the already garbage E passive heal, and make his passive the bloodwell. The current one is garbage if you die too quickly or die too late.

Alzon1 votes

Aatrox should have an actual heal somewhere in his kit instead of his current E lifesteal/vamp. His rework increased the power and reliability of his healing, sure, but it’s not visible. At all. Which is a step back, considering Riot’s design philosophy.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Simple, remove his current W, take the passive, throw it on W, lower the damage and slap a missing HP heal on it (And instead of W being a toggle, its an active that does both the damage, and heals.) Then put the bloodwell on R as his passive once again. An engage tool with his biggest survivability tool tied to it, you can't gimp a concept any harder than that. Just kinda sucks when the moment I mention riven because of the similarites of their kit's spells, the post gets hit with downvotes galore. I'm not even asking for a full revert, im asking for something of old aatrox to come back other than this...confusing mess of an R.

If they changed his Q's and shift his power back to his auto attacks, I've been trying so but I'm simply forced to waste Q's to reduce CD on my passive AA.

Then change the fear from his R to a slow, and put the bloodwell as his passive once again. His engage tool is also his survivability tool, and it legit makes no sense when any "form" ultimates have at least two effects (In Swain's case 3 due to the nova) and he has 4, something has to move so the ultimate can be fairly balanced, and moving the bloodwell back to the passive seems like a better choice.

His W was a primary way ofnisolating and dragging a single target to him alonaige help of his Q! You can't just remove a CC in which a Juggernaut like Aatrox relies on as much as Darius relies on his E. He can't dash frequent enough to catch opponents and after Q1 you won't be able to hit running enemies past that point. Old Aatro's Q was like curremt Aatrox's Q3 and E combined, which was his primary way of chasing people with his E. Current Aatrox doesn't chase them, he PULS them BACK instead. In fact I'd much rather adjust his Q's and E active to his new W amd alongside that give high base attack speed like Maokai does.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Yeah, a single target pull...that does no damage, and is a slave to his Q just like his E, meaning the only thing he has basically in his kit is a passive, Q and R. I want to NOT have to rely on my Q alone to survive. His Q has several cc spots he can use, and no matter old or new, anything with dashes can excape him, except in old aatrox's case he had a slow projectile that slowed even harder than this W and its...pathetic slow that will actually start slowing once you finally get the last two points in it. By moving his passive to W, bringing back his reliable heal and putting it on W, then making it only an active, gives aatrox players more survivability than this shitty post mitigation heal that would see you rarely getting 300 health unless you severely pubstomp someone to death, and even then one grievous wounds item immediately shuts it down. As for R, removing the bloodwell and putting it to his passive just gives Aatrox players a sense of knowing they have a reliable revive, where as currently their engage tool is their survivability tool, meaning activating it early or late means you're fucked.

Actually his damage sources are Q2 Q3 and Passive AA, his P AA's sustain reducing/dueling/executing ability has a lot of damage and important effects while Q2's width can hit multiple enemies while Q3 being the sumo slam. His R too is a slave to his Q like his W is, except it's more influencal when it comes to damage dealing.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Yeah, and it would be still, except the passive AA would be on a lesser cooldown and also provide healing. The only reason why Aatrox was so good at the beginning was the 33% effectiveness of the healing on E against non-champions. With Death's Dance, he was able to heal his entire hp bar on minions with Q3 alone. With that gone, his sustain is just bad. They need to remove the post mitigation from the equation because its the one thing holding that heal back from being consistent. Old Aatrox was able to survive dives with bloodwell not because of the revive, but the healing he could get from W. New Aatrox has none of the sort, so he's susceptible to 2v1s and would likely not get trade kills back.

Yes but keep in mind that reverting his E passive sustain back to normal would mean people rushing item 3812 as a 1st item again, and that did NOT go well. I just want to see him viable with lifesteal from items like item 3153 again. ;-;

Ragnaveil1 votes

Its not really reverting the sustain nerf. The nerf was taking his E passive's effectiveness from 33% to 15%. It was also coupled with nerfing his Q base and damage to minions early. Even with Death's Dance, he still can't quite heal as good now. The only way Blade will be viable is if they finally let his kit have some auto agency other than his already long as shit early cool down on his passive. Even if you spam skills to lower it down, the moment you use it, its 25 seconds till you can use the next, so you have to spam again. His passive, while strong, isn't so "reliable" once teamfighting rolls around.

Attack range. Old ult used to give attack range which helped him kite people out or chase them. Maybe give him that back?

https://www.reddit.com/r/AatroxMains/comments/9iz90i/i_like_new_aatrox_but_some_things_need_to_change/ One of these options this main gave would work tbh. Either keeping every ability and tuning things, or mini-rework him and put his passive on W and turn it into a slow auto and not this heal shield shit and make him have bloodwell as passive, but the revive would remain on the ult. What sucks is Jag wished he could do more to the rework to fix it, but he was only the designer, it fell to the balance team to shift where power goes.

Old Aatrox was so unique he went by another name... Master Yi.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

New Aatrox is played in worlds isnt he? Sorry OP but he will not be replaced unless a wonder happens and ryze/azir/seju and others get a helping hand first.

Unless that happens he too is destined to be a bad or nearly troll pick for soloq.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Huh? Pretty sure LB was being played constantly then once she got nerfed hard enough pros and soloqueue alike stopped playing her. Then they had to revert her and now look at her. And who cares if he's being played in Worlds, its a different environment than soloqueue. Lets also not forget the fact Licorice pulled out Hecarim top and legit pubstomped Hauntzer's Aatrox into the ground. Hecarim top, aka something that use to exist in top till shit went south in terms of his balancing and mana sustain. Ez is being played by people in pro to this day, yet he's getting a mini rework, who says this new Aatrox rework can't receive the same?

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Lb was reverted because they determined trying to balance the reworked one was more hopeless than the old one, much like how they reverted kog.

Aatrox? He is played in the peak of diamond/pro play to apparently good effect and just like seju riot seems content with that.

They wont change soloq if they think it will have a adverse effect on pro play, only if its beneficial for pro will it go through.

And licorice might simply be very damn good at Hecarim top? I cant say because i dont watch pro play much at all but if he is then a difference in skill/experience might just have been the winning factor......that or Hauntzer lacked experience on aatrox and who could blame him? Heca top isnt common by any means.

The Ezreal update is more of a VU, the only real ability change was his W wasnt it? The rest is just for his visuals, current aatrox is far too modern to get this kind of attention.

I figure that if they are ever going to revert Aatrox then he has to become unbalanceable for pro play and thats it, nothing else seems to matter.

Ragnaveil1 votes

So leaving him in the gutter in soloqueue because of pro play is perfectly fine. Right...Tell that to all the Sej mains, the Zac mains, Azir mains, Galio mains, Ornn mains, Shen mains, and Skarner mains. Each of those champs have been riddled with nerfs over and over because of pro play. All it takes is one or two more nerfs to Aatrox and he goes back to where he was before his mini rework got buffed: Forgotten. At this point, they aren't champs anymore, they are nothing more than tools.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

What i think i am doing is just pointing out the trend about the champs that got reverted after a rework.

I personally dont think that this current style of business is right at all, but something is here and this is how i perceive it.

As long as Aatrox remains viable in high diamond/pro he will not be reverted, same as the others.

Mains wanting something reverted? They will have to ask the pro´s for permission first.......answer has been no for Seju, for zac, for Azir.

Although i seem to recall that meddler wrote about finding the zac and seju reworks to be bad and a vague promise about him looking into them,,,,,next season if we are lucky.

So chances of Aatrox being reverted? Next to nothing unless he goes through and becomes viewed as impossible to balance for high elo/pro play, which is the main reason the ones that did get reverted got it as i understand.

If you have a different view or understanding i will read it should you share but i truly am quite certain that even if i am not entirely correct i wont be far off either.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Yeah, I see what you are talking about. My issue is that certain champs that need reworks** should not always have a "pro play centric" goal in mind to bring up a forgotten champ.** They tried to make Nunu somewhat flashy, and now look at him. Champs like Aatrox just needed a kit that was balanceable and a model update. We didn't ask for a huge playstyle change or most of his identity to be wiped off the face of the earth. Instead both of those happened, and it left mains like myself with a feeling of "Good luck adjusting to pretty much a new champ that is hardly like the original, but has the same name. Also, we took every bit of soloplay agency from you because you don't need it. c:" Like seriously...All he's good for is lane bullying, once lane is over, his lead means jack shit.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Many of the reworks werent even particularly aimed at pro play, if i recall right then Seju´s kit was based on the idea of a charging warlord leading her warriors into the fray ontop of her mount bringing frozen fury which in her current kit is represented by her Q and her E.

And as a initiatar she also has that passive to make her beefy enough for the job.

This idea combined with her ulti (even the changed edition) produced a monster of a champion that was the reworked sejuani.

Highly OP for everyone and bringing massive max health% proc´s damages despite being a tank.

Now as time went it was just a case of pros milking it for all it was worthy while soloq gradually found it more and more difficult to make use of her.

And others are probably in a similar boat but i have only really followed seju´s situation as she used to be my tank pick for jungle before the rework, i was having a good amount of success and liked her old kit so i was one of the people trying out the new one only to then find her perma banned into nerfed endlessly.

And what can i blame? Poor design is all x)

Her passive and E by extension ensured that she can never be balanced, so all i can do is hope for later help and wait x)

Ragnaveil1 votes

Yeah, her passive makes it so that if you ever see her, either the top, jg, or support should pick Trundle because she would go from armored to negitive armor and resists once her passive + aftershock falls off, which is why when trundle is picked, Sej players go fleet. The max hp thing I really dont understand other for camps. It should never have done max hp damage to champs in the first place, and if they wanted to keep it, needed to have a lower value. Tanks like her and Poppy are balance nightmares because they are both tanks with max hp damage tied to easy to land spells. Mao had his moved from W to E, and he's fairly balanced. Sion's shield does max hp damage as well. Shen's Q does it 3 times, and is faster and enhanced when the sword moves through. In general, tanks have this damage for tank v tank matchups, but to include bruisers along side them, most of these max health damage things have to go. Why else can a full tank Sion just dick 3 people with no damage items? Max health damage on W. We removed that from Lord Dominics because it caused way too much tank shred, but then we went to true damage for conqueror and IE. The balance team needs not only pros, but excellent mains from each of the tank champs to join them and rebalance tanks as a whole. Sure, the class updates didn't do good. This one's different because you have pros and good mains joining in on the talks.

I mentioned the pros having a say in balance in a post that highlighted my experience with the game (however no one cared about it because of the DZK saga that was going on during that time). Hope you can deal with all the text above, and what im about to add below (it was mainly about the gameplay board and how the community is with it: "If the casual and hardcore part of the community comes together to fix these issues with the board, it could make talks between Riot and the community via the gameplay boards (or other boards) be not only more viable, but also reliable when needing community feedback for certain changes."

Thefrostyviking1 votes

You are absolutely correct on the matter of riot needing to listen to at least some player feedback when doing reworks, malzahar is for instance a notorious case where the designer just ignored the community entirely for his own ideas and then everyone got dragged into the mess when the new kit's ridiculously OP state got through.

But tanks can actually pull off having max HP damage, old seju W had it split into two parts.

First was a auto dealing some instantly, then shed swing her flail around her dealing some more max HP damage over time in a limited area.

This meant that she had counterplay to her main damage, the enemy could run away but at the same time she had some effectiveness guaranteed by the initial hit.

Only real problem of old sej was her ulti being too powerful......so the answer should have been to cut some if not a lot of power and move it into a new E.

Instead we got this mess......and this pattern has happened several times elsewhere too to the sorrow of many.

Ragnaveil1 votes

I'm honestly gonna make a new post, but on the issue of reworks and balance. Hope you are willing to read and and spread the word if you like it. I gotta do some things first, so it will be a while before I post it.

His win rate is crap in bronze, yeah, but when you move up in elo, Aatrox becomes better. Can you guys stop trying to poison the game by telling Riot to make brain dead champions that just click at you to win? I thought we DIDN'T like Tryndamere?

Ragnaveil1 votes

Did I say I wanted him FULLY reverted? No, I said stuff needed to be changed OR replaced. As much as he's "near 50% winrate", how much of that winrate is him being a good champ, and how much of it is him being carried by his team?

...A little overdramatic are we? I wasn't even calling for a revert, I was just asking for simple changes like maybe moving his passive to his W, and removing the W, and removing the bloodwell on R and putting it back as his passive. Another thing I just thought of was making Aatrox move slightly forward with Q1 Q2 and Q3 for fixing clunk and making it more thematicly and physically correct. Who in their right mind would stand still and slam a great sword into the ground in a line?

If you want my actual two cents, being ability-based rather than auto-based is better for a bruiser like Aatrox. Bruiser itemization tends to align better with ability use than straight attacking, plus it means Ninja Tabi doesn't fuck him over so hard.

Aatrox, in his old state, was basically a bruiser who wanted to be a melee carry but couldn't quite manage either one. Being so heavily auto-based meant things like Tabi/Thornmail/Randuin's shut him out hard (without any benefits like true damage or bonus critical chance to circumvent it, and he really didn't have the luxury of building crit unless you went PD) and his steroids weren't quite good enough to be played the way Yi and Tryndamere are.

Never mind the fact that a drain-fighter with a passive revive is a nightmarish concept to balance to begin with.
