I'm in the low gold/high silver elo and every now and then I get a player in my games with a platinum border. They're usually not very good and when I check their lolking their performance graph is literally a straight drop from the platinum rankings to the low gold. Are these guys boosted accounts? How could someone drop several divisions over the course of a week?

Plat is more or less the final line of where you can get purely off mechanical skill. Once you get there it rapidly becomes harder and harder to do that. Many people who are used to easy wins and think they're hot shit start getting rekt in low plat because they don't understand how to win without snowballing and go on massive tilt streaks. Soon they're starting every game in a bad mood because they're salty about having dropped and "hurr me unga team bunga".
However, dropping from plat to low gold does sound more like boosting. I guess people forget that everyone in the game gets more skilled at high ranks, not just the people on your team.
Restless Slumber1 votesI've been having a lot of plats in even my ranked games. It's kind of ridiculous considering I'm gold 5. I guess it has to do with my mmr. But still, a lot of these plat players in my games play like they're bronze, silver at most. I feel like there is an abundance of boosted accounts.
