DON'T. BUFF. EKKO.

WTF is wrong with you? He's already waaaaay too strong and with no options to play against him.

EDIT: Jesus came on today and this was a pretty big thread. Now the salt of my previous game (Where Ekko had got 4 kills from my Kog jungle without me dying once, despite me spam pinging every time Ekko stepped out) has gone ill give more details on why I hate him. His Q is very easy to dodge from long range but its power is the ability to almost one-shot minions waves starting very early on (and he will usually use it after getting close with E and the slow attached is devastating and undodgeable). He just shoves, roams, shoves roams and unless you can match his roams or push back you're fucked. And his ult really doesn't need explaining losing fight? hit R. Win fight. Obviously not true for all situations but yeah Ekko really doesn't need any kind of fucking buff.

"no options to play against him".

Lol.

Evil Yasuo16 votes

Most of those champs after 6 become useless against him. Talon will all in, Ekko ult and run away. Ekko isn't a fun champion to pay against.

TonyTonyMordecai4 votes

A couple of those have ways of stunning Ekko and/or bursting him hard enough to make it impossible for him to ult either in time, or at all. The others punish Ekko for using his gapcloser to start a trade, Annie in particular.

Evil Yasuo1 votes

Well assassins don't have cc like mages do. Ekko has cc but i'm not really sure if he's considered an assassin.

TonyTonyMordecai6 votes

It's more like delayed cc for Ekko, and to be fair, if he got you in his stun without his team keeping you still, he probably deserves it. I mean, Ekko is an assassin, in the sense of running around and proccing his passive to deal some decent burst, but I think Ekko's damage isn't as easy to apply as other assassins like Talon or Zed simply because only two abilities are guaranteed to hit, while the other two need some set up time

Not xPeke10 votes

Do you play Ekko?

Do you know actually landing his stun is just as much your opponents fault as it is your own skill? (so its not that easy)

It's actually hard to land, especially in lane. In a teamfight, with the chaos and everything, sure, it can be a bit easier. But overall it's a highly telegraphed and delayed spell - it's not that simple to land his "CC".

Fizz has a knockup. He's still an assassin btw - since you tried to imply something? Ekko is an assassin with a fighter/skirmisher's style. His damage is somewhat harder to pull off than other assassins.

"Ekko will all in Talon, Talon will ult and run away. Talon isn't a fun champion to play against."

See what I did there? And yes, its a perfectly plausible reversed situation.

Seriously please, if you personally don't like a champion that's fine. But try to be objective and don't be too blinded by your dislike of said champion to use really silly points. At least back it up properly.

EDIT: and not really, Annie, LB, even Ahri can 100-0 an Ekko within their CC timing.

Also people complain about "he can just ult away". Oh yeah? And Zed can just W away. LB can Distort away. Fizz can E away. Like really? Ekko is wasting his ultimate which can be used either as a damage ability or an escape. Sometimes I guess you can use it as both but really alot of the time its one or the other.

So the argument "he can just ult" can really be said about MANY champions. So again.. please think it through and try to be more objective.

Thefrostyviking6 votes

eh.....ahri does not 100-0 ekko, no way.

She is all about burst and only if they go equal and ekko completely skips out on building hp or MR will ahri be able to burst him down before he can ulti.

Same for LB, he ults in the middle of her chain and she´s screwed, altho i think lane would be hard for him, but only if his junglers is asleep.....because if LB stands on his casters to deny him farming then she´s exposed.

Burst champs generally don't do well against ekko, more dps oriented ones like Cassio or malz or ´........anivia are better.

After all, burst champs can't afford to lose half their combo and CDS meanwhile dps ones don't really have that issue.

Not xPeke7 votes

Ahri can trade better early if she keeps her distance, she can set Ekko behind and basically 100-0 with ignite even with Ekko ulting. I have almost 600k exp on Ekko and over 120k on Ahri. I'm fairly certain I've played this matchup several times ^^. Definitely possible.

LB can double chain him and the tether doesn't break unless the ult takes him out of range of it. So even after ulting he is snared unless perfectly timed I guess. Fair point about the jgler but unless you bait LB to go in she's a pain to gank.

Annie does perfectly fine into Ekko and she most definitely can 100-0 with Ignite.

True, dps ones can be somewhat better as Ekko's ultimate is a nice reset and will leave teh burst champions without their CDS, however they all have enough damage to 100-0 or finish him off even after he ults if he's been ignited to reduce the healing or they have morellos.

Thefrostyviking5 votes

Trade early? O_O

Ekko does such a thing? All the ones i play against just faceroll Q for the first 7-10 minutes until 6 before they start trying to roam all over the place.

Annie is.....a stat check, either you can survive her initial burst or you don't kinda. Goes for all her matchups.

Ahri in my experience is somewhat similar to LB for ekko, she can indeed harass him well in lane and hurt him if he tries to all in but if he just goes passive then she can't really do anything without leaving herself completely open.

And most ekko´s ....i´ll try to explain it simply.

If you, as a burst champion attack a ekko, they will always try to either ulti right down the middle of your combo or right after.

Or in the middle of a important ability of your own, like Syndra's ultimate, or as you mentioned, LB chains-

For when your combo is messed up, big CD's down and you´ve probably even taken a little damage while all his abilities are most likely up and ready to go. And you often don't have any way to change this either because as a burst champ you will need your big CD's to win the fight but they´ll end up wasted most of the time.

Then you can only back off and not get anything done because beating ekko having burned your own mana and CDs is pretty much not going to happen.

And no mage can 100-0 ekko unless he itemizes very poorly-

So you in the end have this passive guy that just endlessly waveclears from range and roams all over quite quickly and you can't really do more than push his tower, but if he get's a kill or two then he´ll probably be able to brute force kills on you too.'

Not that i have this issue since i hardly ever see ekko and only play malz if i do x)

Not xPeke3 votes

Depends on the Ekko player hehe.

I play him well and I'll trade, even kill you pre 6 (or try to). I won't just be spamming Q. Also spamming Q early game doesn't just clear waves. You most definitely still have to AA and last hit creeps, and get the 3 passive proc off to CS.

I mean yeah he can ult in the middle of your combo or right after like many champions can. Fizz can just E, Zed can dodge spells or interrupt combos with his R, etc. Ekko can dodge syndra's ultimate like you said, thats why hes a decent pick into her. But if he gets binded by a lux who isn't behind and was poked down even just to 80% health early on in the game she will just 100-0 him even before he gets to ult.

Mages might not 100-0 Ekko strictly speaking but they can poke him down and keep their distance. That's what Ori does. Sure Ekko can just use his Q on the wave but he WILL miss CS and fall behind slowly but surely. That's how shes winning the matchup. This is what people don't understand, you don't have to kill him to win, you know?

Yeah Malz is okay against him although a well timed W by Ekko can interrupt Malz's ultimate. I've done it quite a few times in that matchup. And then Ekko can come up on top.

Thefrostyviking5 votes

Oh.....i can't say i play the matchup a lot but my memories involve a lot of Q spamming on the ekko´s part, not much else really, but it seems logical that that wouldn't be all he does.

Thing with Fizz and Zed though, is that they use those abilties to gapclose, they get to chose between getting near you or not taking damage.

And if they get near you without doing so then you have failed.

Which is why people don't mind them so much, but really....i had no idea lux could kill ekko straight down from 80% early and i have her at 6 ._.

I am starting to wonder if the ekko content at my general elo of play is perhaps quite low?

And Ori does that to all melee matchups, her passive is positively disgusting for them.

And i am well aware that you can just look at ekko´s animations to see his W, i have yet to ever be caught by one that didn't come from outside my vision after i got this lesson shorty after his release^^

Malz is also one that i do know can just lock ekko down and straight up murder him from 70%.....

Can't say no if suppressed x)

A lot of champions win pre 6 vs a melee. None of those champions are special to beating ekko. Only Annie is a legitimite pick but she trashes all assassins.

I'm not approaching this as some filthy ekko main. I'm approaching this as someone who's played a lot of every champion you listed (except levblanc) since season 2.

A good ekko will beat a similarly skilled player playing those champions hands down.

Except annie. Fuck Annie.

How come I trash 90% of the Ekko's I meet and very often I use those picks? How come on many websites they are listed as good matchups into Ekko? Just coincidences? Streamers, LCS casters, etc also say similar things.

You probably dislike Ekko and you are blinded by it to see the truth.

You need to play the champion itself, and the other champions against Ekko, to truly understand what it means.

I have my own experience to back up my claims IN ADDITION to actual websites, boards, and other people's opinions: Those champions listed are indeed good against Ekko.

What evidence or actual reasoning do you have to bring to the table? Because I'm still not seeing any valid one. Like I said, you just don't play Ekko clearly or you would know better.

Do I dislike ekko? Yes. Is it blinding me to how good of a champion he is? No. Ekko has a lowish skill floor and a very high skill cap. Maybe playing ekko at a lower level you would lose against those champions. But at a higher level of play Ekko could and should win. The champions you listed are all high winrate champions. They are already strong champions, playing against ekko doesn't mean they counter him necessarily. Because if you look at it that way then the current highest winrate champions counter almost everyone in their role.

I do admit that you have a good chance to beat ekko with those champions. But it's nothing like a significant advantage. Ekko has every capability to beat you if you become even the slightest bit complacent. And then again, ekko doesn't even have to face you if you pick those champions. He can waveclear real fast then run off to deal with your other lanes.

This, coming from someone who's played all of those champions, and in fact played almost all of the champions in the game since season 2.

Not xPeke1 votes

It's not just about the winrates with those champions though. There's actual reasons as to why they're good against him.

  • LB was known as a good pick into Ekko as soon as he was released. It's just hell to lane against her, even post 6.
  • Annie? Well you agreed on that.
  • Ori can just zone, shes just a rather safe pick overall I guess, but yeah, shes great against Ekko if you can keep your distance.
  • Ahri can just poke better earlier (obviously, ranged vs melee), but not just that. Ekko will just get a charm to the face everytime he tries to engage on her if her E is up. Post 6 Ahri can just ult away and so can Ekko, but guess what? Ahri chases him down after with other Ult charges.
  • Vlad is just.. Vlad. Poke poke poke, heal heal heal.
  • Jayce just flat out outdamages him and so does Talon. They both have the liberty of building hexdrinker or maw early, completely ruining his life and all-in potential in lane.
  • Anivia is just a somewhat safe pick against assassins (at least I personally find her that way when I play her).

Trust me, I can keep going and go into more details as well. Unfortunately I'm a EU pleb and it's getting rather late so I'm being lazy. If there's one thing I know on this game though is stuff about Ekko. I've mained him ever since his release.

And anyway I'd like to clarify: is Ekko weak? No I do not believe so.

I average almost 4 kda in over 140 games in Ranked with him this season, with basically 60% winrate (should have been better but shit happens). I think he's good. Having said this I truly believe what I've been saying about these matchups. I just can't sit here and listen to people cry saying there are no options to fight him (like the OP said, to which I thought of offering that list of champions). I'm sorry but I'm just not having it, it's bullcrap.

Early levels his Q is not good enough to waveclear, you have to get in there and AA and get the 3 hit passive proc off to last hit. This opens him up to abuse from the enemy laner and these particular champions are really punishing.

As for your last point, that can be said about many champions.. he's hardly the worst offender honestly.. Many champions can waveclear safer, faster and try to avoid interacting with their lane opponent.

Pierce The Veal1 votes

Yes, when you say it that way I can agree. They are definitely good champions to pick against him, and he definitely doesn't lack people to pick against him.

He is, however, a very safe champion for what he can do, and his fast combo can delete even many tanks let alone squishies. But I definitely am not with the crowd that says he has no counterplay. I do, however, believe he doesn't deserve buffs.

Not xPeke1 votes

Oh, don't get me wrong I agree with you. He doesn't necessarily "need" or "deseve" buffs - but it won't be gamebreaking to be honest.

And yes, given certain matchups he is very safe and strong and can snowball well.

theyellowflash263 votes

Ahri doesnt 100-0 Ekko within the time hes charmed actually. Ahri main and I play that matchup a ton. Charm wears off with enough time for Ekko to ult unless theres a teammate with her. In a 1v1, Ekko should be able to ult after the initial e>q>w. I do however think its a good matchup for Ahri, but Ekko can definitely still win it easily. He has the tools to do so. I also play Ekko quite a bit so I've played the matchup from the otherside too. On the topic of the thread tho, I dont think he needs buffs, even a small one like the one on pbe.

Not xPeke1 votes

She can because it's a decent matchup for her meaning that she can get a lead and with ignite basically 100-0. Even if he ults out he can follow up on him and finish him.

I do agree though, Ekko can win as well, I just think Ahri is a good pick into him. You can play safe if you need to but you're also capable of killing Ekko as Ahri.

I agree though, I don't think he requires buffs, he's okay. But he's not OP and I don't think this buff will break him like the OP is saying.

theyellowflash262 votes

Anyone with a lead can do that. I was talking when they're even in Laning phase

Not xPeke1 votes

but that's my point... Ahri can get a lead on Ekko as she has more pressure and has an advantage in lane.. which in turn means she can 100-0 Ekko (or close to it after small amount of poking).

I have almost 600k exp on Ekko and almost 200k on Ahri... I know what I'm talking about.

theyellowflash263 votes

uhh. the only advantage ahri has is a ranged auto. i get what youre saying but ekko has low cooldowns and low mana costs where ahri runs out of mana if she is forced to use her spells to trade as often as ekko is, meaning he gets an advantage simply by doing the thing hes meant to do (aka trading). and you cant honestly say that ekko cant do the same thing to ahri on the flipside bc he can. I have almost 400k mastery on ahri. i know pretty much all of her matchups fairly well, so i think youre just kinda biased here. depending on how far ahead you are, sure you can 100-0 anyone but unless youre maxing charm literally first (which doesnt happen) ekko will always have a chance to ult.

Not xPeke1 votes

I'm not biased lol.

Ahri is a known good and safe pick into Ekko. I never said Ahri smashes Ekko but she has the upperhand. I have almost 200k on Ahri myself and almost 600k on Ekko. Obviously I prefer Ekko but I'm not biased either way. I love Ahri too.

The one issue Ahri has is her mana. If she trades too much she runs out of mana faster. But like I already pointed out Ahri can just pointblank charm W Q Ekko that jumps on her. Unless Ekko jumps in on the stun he's always on the backfoot (unless he's ahead). He just can't afford to jump on her from the open.

You say Ekko has to do the things hes meant to do aka trading. Except since Ahri is ranged and has an easier way to Poke him with her Q, he SHOULD be at lower hp than her throughout the laning phase.

theyellowflash262 votes

sure she can point blank charm him, but that means shes also taking his QE dmg anyway so its not like shes 100% winning the trade. and yes the mana is a big issue here. since ekko can continuously trade into her sure hes gonna get full combod but hes not gonna die from it early and ahris gonna run out of mana faster meaning he can then keep trading without the risk of being full combod. bc even if he gets charmed she'll prolly not have the mana to full combo after a bit. and yea you can poke him down but her q is a skillshot. he can avoid it and his q is ranged too. its not like he is just a helpless melee with no way to retaliate, and if his q hits he can e in for big dmg. ahri has to take the e too unless she manages to get out of range (if thats possible after the q slow). she cant just charm early bc ekko can blink through it if she does

From one Ekko player to another:

How the hell do I deal with Jayce and Diana?

I get this is completely off topic, but I honestly have no one to ask.

Not xPeke2 votes

Quite frankly it's tough.

Jayce flat out out damages Ekko. But I've won my fair shares of matchups against him. Just gotta make sure to avoid getting poked down too much and to dodge his Q. The other option is ensuring we get a stun off :/. This also applies to Diana. Without it she outrades pretty easily thanks to her W + AA passive. With Diana I usually try to harass her with Q when she tries to farm early and/or shove her in under tower. Post6 it's tricky as she can QRW and come out on top of the trade. If she misses her Q however it's another story and you can punish her.

They're just hard matchups to be honest. I manage to get out on top because I'm well experience on Ekko. On paper though they're just hell to deal with.

As for laning phase even when fighting them, I very rarely use my ultimate as an escape unless absolutely necessary. I will always play around it to deal damage. Q and E alone will not kill Diana or Jayce. You gotta hit everything on them and pull off a shield/stun too.

I also run TP alot on Ekko to help me sustain in lane, get early back for early item advantage. And midgame I can split.

Handy Sandy 21 votes

He's awful strong atm but he's not broken and has counterplay, but you're right he doesn't need any buffs.

KoKoboto5 votes

Nah he's pretty unhealthy tbh. He can devolve into a completely uninteractive lane phase with no way of stopping it really fast if he chooses to. With his Q he can just afk the wave all day if he's behind and E->R out if he ever gets into trouble. A melee ASSASSIN shouldn't have that ability, they're supposed to be a high risk high reward class.

PokladnicaZla3 votes

There aren't many instant CC abilities in the game, which can hit him before he ulties.

MrryZ2 votes

You don't even need instant cc, the way you're saying it it's as if the second an Ekko sees any kind of cc coming his way he's going to ult out of it which is absolutely ludicrous

PokladnicaZla3 votes

He uses his R when needed and to only way to negate that is to hard CC him correct? But,his R is nearly instant, while most CC abilities are delayed or have somekind of animation.

Jet Sett16 votes

I never understand this point, Ekko ulted to get to safety, where is the issue exactly? The only other complaint I hear about a champion using their ultimate defensively is Ahri. He has the option to use it for burst or to escape, and if planned well it can do both.

General Theritt5 votes

the problem people have with Ekko's ult is that fact of how ridiculously powerful it is on either side of the spectrum. Used offensively, Ekko can dive in and stay as long as needed, then activate his ult for not only a second massive burst but almost ensures a third burst combo thanks to it shaving off enough time and placing a hefty amount of resources back into your hand to use. In the defensive spectrum, it just feels like you got cheated. Darius can gain back tons of health at low HP, but is extremely immobile and risks a lot on it landing. Fizz has to position since its his only safe dash without Qing something. Not only does Ekko heal for a base amount that's extremely strong any way you build him, but it then scales of a % of missing HP lost during the few seconds. That's MASSIVE considering you need serious burst to put him down early on, and in lategame if it isn't an assassin an ADC will have used a full rotation to attempt to kill him. He can immediately ult to respond to a failed burst combo on his side and his opponents to put him down, making sure that he can get a second attempt. Combine this with a built in invulnerable dash to his 4 second clone, + an extremely low cooldown dash on E, and he becomes nightmarish to execute properly. Interesting fact, it also removes any form of DoT or debuff placed on him in the last four seconds, meaning champions who NEED DoTs to trigger abilities suffer because Ekko can shake them off.

I will give the facts of the ults weaknesses, and that it doesn't guarantee safety, and can easily be punished. However, that doesn't warrant its insane burst and comeback potential simultaneously. Not only do you have to prepare to know he's ulting, but you need to know WHEN and I mean EXACTLY WHEN he will ult to properly predict it, and if you can't prepare in time, prepare to be chunked or robbed of your kill, and eaten alive by Ekko's team. Ekko is simply problematic by design. Timewarping/Reset characters are notorious in league for having unfun abilities to have to fight or can make massive swings. Zilean got nerfed to hell and back, and still sees play, but its because of how much power is placed in his ult. Yorick old Yorick with Omen copy? Mordekaiser with his ghost not only resetting a target's health, but forcing the ghost onto his team. And lets not forget old Katarina with her ultimate resets and damage potential. They've slowly been rooting these champions away from a lot of resets to HP and CDs because the value of these abilities are near limitless given a situation. A fed Ekko not only makes this a massive nightmare, but thanks to his massive adaptability and burst, he's frightening on all levels.

GayFluffyUnicorn7 votes

The problem becomes when it isn't a decision that needs to be made anymore. Ekko is way too strong without his ult=he doesn't need his ult for the damage and can use it every time as a literally free escape if fucked up button.

PokladnicaZla2 votes

Because it's feels atrocious to play against. It's like get out of jail card without doing anything. The part which bothers me the most is that it's instant. IMO it would be if he had a circle around him(similar to when a Yasuo used an E on you) and when it expires he tps out.He can get to you, burst you and get back without any consequence. Other things that could be done would the he gains the health over a short period of time or he gains all of it,but loses part/all of it.

Escape, heal and burst. It's a pretty powerful spell. It should hold some kind of restriction.

Jet Sett1 votes

Considering how important it is for Ekko to use his ult properly, I think it's fine instant. Especially since hard cc prevents him from using it.

PokladnicaZla2 votes

You press and damn button and you're out of a situation which could have killed you.

Nearly every champion in the game needs to use their correctly.Yet,most of them aren't instant.

Jet Sett1 votes

Well if he used it to escape getting caught out then congrats, a major teamfighting ultimate won't be up if you capitalize on the opportunity. If he was in the middle of a fight and he used it then he should be rewarded as intended. Not to mention his positioning is critical for the success of the ultimate. If he jumps right back into the tank he'll have no reliable escapes left, and no way to sustain himself. It is also less reliable than other ults in terms of dealing damage, and when used defensively he's losing out on a ton of damage. The only issue here is how people look at other champion's kits like everything good is free and has no drawbacks.

PokladnicaZla2 votes

That's the problem it's to versatile. You can do so much with just one single skill. It's annoying.

don't ya love his ult "o i got out played" rewind "now i didn't"

even better is his ult will be back up in about 10 seconds, so even if you did make him use it, it's not something you can take advantage of.
