I'm pretty sure it was demonstrated a while ago that yi wins all of these full build 1v1s between lategame carries like trynd, jax, fiora, yi when you have two master+ players.
Where? And what did they build?
For trynd he would just burst down trynd
Tryndamere bursts harder unless Yi goes for a crit build, and if Yi goes for a crit build he's going to be killed in two or three auto attacks by Tryndamere.
and disengage with his ult until trynds ult ran off, then come back and kill him since yi cant be slowed by trynds shout when ulting.
Tryndamere's E with 40% CDR has a 5 second cooldown, which means that, against melee opponents, the cooldown is effectively zero since Yi can't escape Tryndamere before it's up again, and combined with phage if he goes black cleaver he should be able to stick on Yi IMO. Though I haven't played in a while and cleaver might not be so hot on Tryndamere anymore.
He also has the option of meditate tanking some of trynds damage.
This much is true.
It turns out that the mathchup isn't even remotely close if trynd doesn't come to the fight with rage fully stacked,
Tryndamere at full build has 85% crit right off the bat. He needs less than half of his fury bar to be full. He is not likely to miss a crit.
By contrast, Yi actually does need to stack his guinsoo's rageblade for maximum effectiveness.
and even then if yi and trynd both took combat summoners trynd gets fucked by exhaust which doesn't work on yi.
No, but ignite does, given his relatively low health and his reliance on drain-tanking. Yi would also be deprived of flash, unless you're saying that Yi is going to forgo smite and deprive himself of bloodrazor and red smite?
