FIX YOUR MATCHMAKING RIOT

It is legit crap when you get to gold/plat/diamond elo. You can literally tell which team is going to win based on the win percentage comparison on OP.GG. Their team will have all 50%+ winrate while you get the boosted 33% winrate players. I shouldnt be able to tell which team is going to win just based off of looking at their win percentage. BALANCE IT!

Here are plenty of examples to prove my point:

Here we have a Yasuo Gold 4 with Silver 1 MMR yet playing with plats for some reason. What do you know, he feeds because Riot matchmaking is a joke:

A team with all 50+% winrate vs a 38% winrate, 2 49% winrates. Whos gonna win this one:

3 60+% winrates on the same team? How does this even seem close to balanced Riot:

Most of my games are just determined by auto fill lol.

We get an autofill support/adc/jungler, the enemy gets an ADC, jungler and support who main that role = enemy wins.

They get an autofill support/adc/jungler, we get an ADC, jungler and support who main that role = we win.

Its annoying.

ItsOrval2 votes

Yeah that too

MrSalet12 votes

Yeah, its a shame when most the time you cant carry because teams are clearly unfair. I dont know if balancing it by Win rate would be the correct option, but Riot does need to fix it.

ItsOrval5 votes

Maybe just keep the elos actually around the same. Instead of throwing silvers and low golds and low diamond in my plat 4 games.

Sraeg20133 votes

The joke is ELOs are the same, unless premades are involved.

The whole Ladder system is a decoy.

Moooose37 votes

OMG. A few examples of a "subpar" matchmaking system. Except then you actually look at it and realize that their team has 4 mid/low gold players on it which is why they have higher win %. And then you realize you bought 6 tears in one of your games and my care just goes out the window. And the things you circled were winrates on that specific champion.

Basically the brain does this thing where it looks for patterns even though they're not there. You lost a game, looked at op.gg and were like oh wow we had lower winrates. They're likely not correlated.

ItsOrval11 votes

A few examples of a "subpar" matchmaking system.

Sorry not gonna spend 2 hours going through every picture, cropping it, editing it, uploading it, just to give you 40 more examples from the past week?

Except then you actually look at it and realize that their team has 4 mid/low gold players on it which is why they have higher win %.

Exactly, theyre smurfing lmao? They have plat mmr because they have 60+% winrate.

And then you realize you bought 6 tears in one of your games and my care just goes out the window.

If you look at the build order on OP.GG you will see that i bought 6 tears when I was dead when nexus was getting destroyed.

And the things you circled were winrates on that specific champion.

No? If you click on the picture, it will say right above where i circled it "Ranked winrate". Their win percentage on the champion theyre playing is to the right of the screen.

You lost a game, looked at op.gg and were like oh wow we had lower winrates.

Every game I lose is because of this. I have hundreds of pictures of this in my photo library.

Moooose38 votes

Right. Every game you lose is because of winrates, not because you messed up or played badly or anything. You must be a god.

You're low plat, with still above a 50% winrate, you're obviously still climbing. Regardless, you still obviously have a ton of room to improve. If not, you'd have a higher winrate and be in diamond by now. You deserve the elo you have. Although if u ever do hit high plat/diamond lmk and hmu on my smurf, moooose2, if u wanna get carried.

:P

ItsOrval3 votes

You can't win games where you not goes 0/9 by the 10 minute mark and mid goes 1/10 at the 20 minute mark.

Moooose36 votes

It is so unbelievably statistically unlikely that all of your losses come because your team is a combined 1-19 by 10/20 minutes. Don't even know why I'm wasting my time on this thread anymore.

If you deserve to climb, you will.

Just thought I throw this in, heres another defeat. Guess how I lost:

I love how plats tell silvers and golds that we are lying when we say stuff like this guy only to claim they are experiencing the exact same thing themselves only they are not lying like we must be. Then someone of higher elo still say to the plat guy what he says to the silver or gold elo player. I wonder who is telling you the same thing you just told this plat guy...

I don't know how many season's you have played or what your rank is and I don't care. The matchmaking this season (starting with pre-season) has been completely out of whack. I've had games where I can go 0/7/1 in the first 15 min, be afk for 4 min and win. And I've had games where I can go 5/2/0 while being camped (harder than anything you see in those YouTube vids by high rank streamers) and be unable to do anything in a teamfight or split-pushing because my teammates screwed up that royally in 2v2 and 1v1 lanes. There are plenty of selfish players with 0 macro or micro skill that belong 5 tiers lower than where they are playing who can single-handedly ensure their team loses the game - no matter how well someone else does. And worse still, you can explain to them very clearly and nicely exactly what they are doing wrong and what the team NEEDS to do instead only to have them still think they are correct even though their "strategy" has failed the last 7 times they've tried it. There is no teaching them. There is no carrying them. And certain players get these people on their team way more than they should. I have been climbing with 70% winrate only to have 2 straight weeks of 80% autolosses and drop 2 full tiers due to these people at one point this season. You can say what you want, but unless you have spectated a player's games (end stats do not tell the full story) for a week or more, you cannot possibly understand. It's one thing to get bad players once in awhile or bad games. It is another to have everything skewed against you in over 60% of your matches all season long. Never had teammates this bad in years past at this tier. When I can legit say players 5 tiers lower than my current tier are better micro and macro wise than the people I get on my team most games now and my opponents actually play to their current tier, there is an issue. When I can say that if I played as poorly as my typical teammates do at my current rank, I would go 1/11/3 in laning phase yet I regularly have a positive kda, there is an issue. Either I'm way under my proper elo, my teammates are way boosted beyond their elo, or some combination of the two is going on. I don't doubt this is true for others in different ranks too. Just because you have not experienced it yourself does not mean it cannot be true. I have never touched the Sun, but that doesn't mean I can tell someone who has touched it that it isn't hot. If I have never felt the wind, that doesn't mean I can tell someone else that it doesn't exist and that they are lying. True typically people like me and that plat guy are full of crap when claiming their teammates are holding them back, but that doesn't make it true in every instance.

Moooose32 votes

First off, I'm not plat. Moooose2 is my main but that's besides the point. Realized after reading the rest of it my rank doesn't matter lol.

I have experienced horrible teams. I've just carried most of them by playing champs that get others ahead and haul them to a victory such as thresh. Idk I'm not saying in every case teams aren't holding players back, but I know teams definitely aren't holding players back all the time either. It's somewhere in the middle, and I believe it balances out. IF you play enough games statistically your rank will eventually fall to where you deserve to be at.

SlaktarTasken1 votes

Yeahyeah, you're fantastic and every game is carryable.

[zombie-brand-clap]

Moooose31 votes

No, quite the opposite some games you just can't win. Doesn't mean it's always your team's fault tho.

SlaktarTasken1 votes

Ofc not, but you seem to be missing the point.

The main complaint isn't about being placed with crappy teams. The main complaint is about sloppy matchmaking allowing wildly unballanced matches from the start. Believe it or not, it allows for some people to be on the receiving end, endlessly. Playing matches they neither enjoy or learn anything from.

As for matches themselves. I don't care if I lose if I've had a close game, those games are the most fun, win or lose AND in my belief, the ones you learn the most from since it's easier to clearly gauge what plays/moves made you win or lose.

I don't even think facerolling is fun or fullfilling, and I sure as don't feel like I learn alot from them since they are stomps from the get-go and that the path of least resistance leads to nothing.

I always honor everyone after a close non toxic match because it generally feels like everyone has done their best and it could have gone any way, in that sense, no one is truely a loser since everyone has probably learned something no matter how small.

I must admit that I think I would do much better and develope quicker in an environment where matches/matchups/players are close however, so maybe I'm biased?

Regardless, how often do I get close matches? 1/20 at best and even that number may be a gross exagaration.

Maybe you don't experience it because the variation in skill is much smaller where you are.

But that is how I feel and I wish you high elo people would stop using yourselves as the measuring stock for every scenario. We don't claim full understanding of your elos, so it's odd to see you claiming full understanding of ours when your stays here are brief at worst and you walk the path of least resistance when here.

Regardless of wether Riot intends to do anything about it, an anouncement from them would be nice.

Gregor Gysi1 votes

And certain players get these people on their team way more than they should.

All you said about terrible teams is true. There are games that are impossible to win - so just win all the others. Why would certain players get these terrible teams so much more often? Because Riot hates them?

unless you have spectated a player's games (end stats do not tell the full story) for a week or more, you cannot possibly understand.

Then go ahead and post a few matches of yours for us to spectate. Until then I am convinced that you don't get especially hard games.

Asked lux just to stay mid about 10+ times. Combo her useless roams and dying with bot always shoving and I cannot gank bot and mid. Have a fed yasuo top who has higher levels than me with a yi who has 0 mechanical skill and I cannot gank for him unless I know enemy mid and jungle will not show up to counter-gank. Lux flames me all game for not ganking enough. And I play worse because I'm tilted by the fact of knowing from experience this game is likely unwinnable. No one will listen to logic and 2 lanes are clearly boosted. Boosted - not "having a bad game" because people having a bad game actually LISTEN to logic and still do basic things decently/make decent decisions most of the time. Awhile back I had about 2 weeks STRAIGHT of teams full of people like this lux and yi or even worse. Literally 10% of my games had teammates going even or ahead of their opponents - the rest were losing gracefully or more often feeding as hard as possible even without being ganked. Just try to picture having 2+ of this lux on your team except they pull off their score while never being ganked and meanwhile you are 1v2 for 15 min.

Compare that to the game below - where bot and mid were losing and jungle was basically ff and grabbing a kill here or there - but never a kill that got his teammates assists to help them out. Not blaming the jungler - just pointing out that while he had kills, they never helped our losing mid or bot when he grabbed them early game. Add in bot and mid flaming each other all of laning phase. I asked them to just play safer and let me carry - said it was ok they were behind. I told them to stop flaming each other - when more often than not I'm called toxic for asking people to "play safe" bot or to help ward the map. What is the difference though between these people and the ones in the game above? Unlike the other match, my mid and bot listen to LOGIC. They play safer. When that is not enough, I swap lanes and cait and leona actually LISTEN. They go top and ff 2v1 vs poppy. I am allowed to 1v2 vs the enemy bot lane and deal with any ganks by the fed enemy mid. Diana plays safely mid and doesn't shoving out from tower to give kat easy kills. Do we play perfectly? No. Towards the end, my team doesn't push the open inhib top with me - instead they stay pressuring mid inhib TOWER and I pay for it with my life - I messed up at multiple points too. Like my engage bot where I "stun" a twitch with black shield and bait diana to her death. Or where I die to cho ult mid before reviving via ga. But overall I am able to get my team caught up, get them on a positive note when they were flaming each other, and get us making more good intelligent/logical plays than bad ones. Give me a team like this anyday - whether we end up winning or losing - and I will be happy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAKnu0VMMSU&feature=youtu.be

Sorry this is so tl;dr. Hope you can see the differences in the two games and how having teammates who listen to and/or have basic skills/logic can make all the difference when your team is behind/losing multiple lanes.

A couple of your examples are wrong, winrate shouldn't matter when matching players, just divisions. That's all that should really matter, relatively similar divisions all around.

ItsOrval3 votes

Usually if they have a low winrate like the 38% Zed, then they are boosted/bought the account. Also its not hard to get carried to your elo, which is what 45ish% winrate is like. Where they get carried by a lucky team.

I remember months ago I got carried to gold even though I was trash and belonged in low silver, but my team was able to carry me out because I got lucky teams.

This is happening in all elo's from what I can tell. It is not excusable. I asked on multiple posts that Riot have employees follow me and others getting stuck on the losing end of these matches (80% of the time) by either spectating in game or playing (in disguise - so no one knows they work for Riot) in some of these matches. They don't have a clue what it is like. How impossible it is to win with teammates who feed enemies double digit kills without being ganked once. How impossible it is to "git good and carry" when you are absorbing 90% of the enemy jungler's focus during laning phase and get 0 help from your team. Merely going even in such a scenario is in fact winning; pulling out a kda advantage while staying even or ahead in cs is stomping. But due to other lanes feeding so hard despite getting ganked maybe once in 15 minutes the small lead you have built is more than negated by the fed enemies in other lanes. Furthermore, macro play is atrocious. Teams who could grab a free baron or force enemy to try to 3v5 stop you from doing baron instead run bot lane to protect an outer tower from the enemy jungler and toplaner. You explain to them baron > tier 1 tower, but they don't listen. Or you win a teamfight, your team could push a tower or heal up to force a 4v2 baron, but instead they chase across half the map with low hp, tower dive, and trade kills at best - leaving enemy team respawning and able to force 4v1 baron or elder drag. Then you are reported for lack of teamwork because you don't join them in such obviously high risk low reward plays because there are much better ones to be made. I was a solid mid tier silver for a few years before making gold 5 last season. This season I cannot tell if I am a silver 5 playing 80% of my games with the worst of bronze 5 players, or a gold 5 playing with silver 5's while my opponents are all silver 1 to gold 5 caliber. Either way, games are clearly unbalanced. And you can't say anything or you will be reported as toxic - even if you say it nicely. At best during those 80% auto-losses, you get 1 or 2 teammates max who will actually listen to intelligence. But 3v7 vs people who are maybe 1 tier lower than you isn't really possible.

Zaryelle4 votes

The matchmaking is just way too lenient. I can tell when I've been waiting a long time in queue the match will be horribly imbalanced because it prioritizes fast queues over balanced matches. That and you shouldn't really able to tell who's going to win just by looking up the teams, but it's pretty easy to tell who will win majority of the time.

100% agree and have been bitching about them changing their stupid fucking MMR system to a system that uses real data like; frequency of play, number of games played, champion proficiency, kda, champion mastery, champion mastery points, etc.

Matchmaking is the single worst thing wrong with this game.

Sraeg20133 votes

Because the Ladder System should be scrapped. It only affects LP gains and losses.

What is under it, is the Season 1-3 ELO system.

AKA Leagues, Divisions and LP are just a pointless layer that doesn't contribute to matchmaking anyhow.

All that matters is your ELO or how Riot likes to call it since 2013 "MMR".

Itsbeghdev2 votes

Well, MMR isn't exactly consistent with true Elo matchmaking, so... yeah.

Sraeg20132 votes

And how can you tell? No player has seen their ELO or "MMR" since the Season 3 began.

Remember all of those OP.GG and what not are only ESTIMATIONS.

I for one can tell, because I've been there when the announcement was made and Riot made it clear "how" Ladder/MMR system works and "why" it was added to begin with.

Itsbeghdev1 votes

I just recall hearing that the algorithm was modified from Arpad Elo's original chess ranking system.

Sraeg20131 votes

Which was the original ELO in LoL and most likely hasn't been touched since. I'm sure they needed to add a "hook" somewhere for LP calculations to work, but that's secondary.

Pop0001002 votes

Your wrong Arpad Elo wrote it for a head to head game, Riot would have to adapt his system or one people already adapted for team play(so it probably isn't just straight Elo)

  1. It's "you're".
  2. Itsbeghdev said "modified ELO" which I called "the original ELO in LoL". In case this English is too hard to understand, the translation of my comment is "the modified version is the one first used in League of Legends".

I made the same threads about matchmaking and autofill, it will maybe get upvoted and discussed, but finally riot won't do anything. They want you to grind the game as long as possible. I was d2 and dropped to d3 fucking again because you lost in champ select when a fucking shaco one trick gets autofilled bot and adc gets top. Add that FUCKING JOKE of a matchmaking to the mix where you get a d5 top laner that got autofilled vs. a d1 top lane main and what do you get ? a toxic fucking game, but god forbid you say something. in the end though, you can't even blame the d5 dude that fed against a d1 player. I didn't play for a week and can't bring myself to click that play button on ranked right now. Riot matchmaking+autofill is apsolute garbage. hey gimme that NEW SPICY SHINY CHROMAS THO XDDDD.

You know what's the worse part about this (true) story?

At some point, for some weird reason, you end up in this match-making "pool", where you're teamed with those low WR players against high WR player, (I had a 0/11/0 Renekton vs. Vlad in my team some days ago, just to cite 1 example), it just keeps coming, and despite having good games (like your high KDA, kill participation, and dmg to champ on Jayce), you'll keep losing and losing... and you will end up with a shit win ratio as well.

And then, you will be the "trash low win ratio" yourself, despite doing well. Believe me, it happened to me, I was 55% winrate (over ~200 games in plat), I ended up in this broken matchmaking pool, I went down to 48% winrate, (from diamond MMR to gold 3 MMR owing to lolskill), despite having huge KDA / kill participation / dmg to champ / dmg taken / drakes taken / nashor taken, etc etc...

I am having a break from ranked atm, because it's too frustrating.

You're only comparing win rates alone and don't even consider the number of games played by each player in some of those. Win rate is higher, ok, but the 'boosted apes' have more games played so they're supposed to be more experienced, in theory at least. It's like a bet between bad veterans and good fresh-lings lol.

Many of the streamers I watch are admitting the game is simply not as fun anymore. It's not the game play, it's not the community, it's the match making.

The most competitive game I've witnessed lately - mid-high diamond, 4v5 (jungle was disconnected at level 2)- Team with 4 players honestly would have won the game before 20 minutes, but with missing their jungler - it went 50 minutes and the 4 person team still almost won.

How does matchmaking screw up that bad? -Well maybe some of them were actually boosted, maybe not. A number of my games (in gold) feel exactly the same. One team outclasses the other so badly, it might as well be a surrender at 20- if it goes on for that long.

It's like all of the games have potatoes in them, the team with more potatoes loses.

Winning a game feels meh, especially if your team is just smashing the other team, but losing the game feels like it's completely out of your control- at least it does for me, I either get camped out of my mind or win my lane(top)- Sometimes win even while getting camped out of my mind. If I tp or roam bot/mid and spoon feed kills any chance I get, doesn't make a difference if the other teams bot or mid is better than mine.

Is it autofill? Is it matchmaking? I don't have the answers, but it's frustrating and it's making me want to go to another game.
