Simple solution to make Galio a viable support and more popular

Code his W as a shield so he could proc item 3174 passive. How could he be a supp you ask? Well I tell you: -- poke support -- slow enemies -- accelerate his adc or whole team when chasing -- single target stats buff (and heal if the change is done) -- Kalista + Galio? easy whole team ult -- new support that could build either item 3092 oritem 3401 -- item 3060 and item 3512 are perfect on him AND for a support

This could also help him fill not 1 role like it is now, but two (mid and supp), making him more popular while we wait for his rework (probably far away, like 2 years).

Problem: Athene's heal procs off the numerical value of the shield or heal, not just the presence of a shield. Galio's w would have a shield valie of 0, giving no heal. Making it a shield with no mechanical changes fixes nothing.

No, Athene's heals X an ally when a heal/shield is applied to that ally. Even if the shield value is 0, a shield is still being applied.

That is a common misconception. To quote the wiki: "Healing or shielding another ally consumes charges to heal them, up to the original effect amount." If you heal for 100, you consume 100 charges. If you heal for 0, you consume 0.

It could always read it as the shield gives 30 armor and 30 MR, so the heal would be 60.

Not a huge heal, but its still their.

Sounds a bit weak to be worth bending rules for.

Thanks for sharing the wording on that confused me. Cheers

They aren't going to do anything. I've lost hope in Riot over this. Been waiting years alongside the other Galio mains for a REAL update to this poor guy. And apparently, with the recent news, they lied about reworking Galio, saying "He doesn't need a rework." now. Really?

The guy has the lowest playrate, and has been passively nerfed to hell. It doesn't matter if they buff one skill, that isn't going to save him. Yorick is even more popular than Galio now.

The biggest sting is they recently made the "new champ named Galio" joke.

Well they were talking about Galio a lot in the latest set of AskRiot comments which seems hopeful, but I personally don't think he needs a rework. His kit is in no way bad or unhealthy or anything like that which is why Yorick is getting a rework, the main problem is that It just doesn't really fit thematically.

The thing that I will always find confusing is that he is actually decently strong. He sits consistently at a 52-55% winrate, the only mid laner that he is really bad against is Yasuo and yet he is still so unpopular.

It's the same thing that happened with Morde. Everyone thought "Wow so much untapped potential!", but it turns out that his win rate was inflated by his mains on a low play rate. Once people hopped on Morde for a sec after that Morde jg fiasco, his win rate dropped like Hecarim's power curve. If an influx of players hopped on Galio, he'd drop like a rock. Only reason he holds up is because Galio players know where to use him and how, despite him being a weak pick anyway.

Rioter recently stated that Galio is very hight on their rework list (after Yoric is Eve), so they plan something for him, but not in near future

They've said that several times though, so I doubt it's an honest statement.

Make Galio heal the target of his W instead of always himself. Athene's would proc and he would be awesome. He'd probably need a nerf though.

Then he'd have synergy with Windspeaker's, which is even better.

Any fix that makes him apply Athenes would synergise with Windspeaker, and Mikaels.

For one, Galio fills two roles already: mid and top I play him in both.

Secondly, If they really wanted to make him a stronger support, they should make it so that his W when used on allies heals them instead of himself, because this would just about be all he needs to be a strong support since he can then make use of windspeakers, but this might be completely broken since he would be giving them 100+ of each resistance along with a good sized heal. This would also mean that he can proc athene's on them.

Third, I think Galio being played in support could actually help make the role just that much more possible since, because of his high bases and his passive, you can bui;d full tank/utility items and still feel like you are doing a lot of damage and having a strong impact.

I played alot of galio support in normal not a long time ago and i think this could be a good change to make galio and actual support. Take my upvote!(I got tier 5 galio only playing him as support)

According to Reav3, Galio sits at the #1 slot for the most requested VGU, followed by Evelynn in #2 and Urgot in #3. He said that if any of them gets any concrete direction, Yorick's team will move to one of them after he relaunches. So one of these three will be next after Warwick.
