Syndra Needs a Small Buff/W Bug Fixes

Let's examine her soloq global stats (plat+, lolalytics): Plat+ Winrate: 47.67% Plat+ Pickrate: 3.89% (average pickrate is around 7%)

Here are the stats of her matchups. Note: delta means how much more or less she is winning against a certain champion compared to other champions. A positive delta means she is winning more than the average champ in the matchup. A negative delta means she is winning less than the average champ in the matchup. The more positive/negative the delta is, the better/worse the matchup is for her.

Her ''good'' matchups are mostly just champions that have been nerfed hard and/or that perform poorly in midlane soloq (Akali Azir Ryze Irelia Galio ). Others are just new champions (Sylas Neeko ). Others Syndra actually has a favorable matchup, like Cassiopeia , but even then, she isn't even winning that much more than the average champion against them. For the rest, she has sub-50% ''good'' matchups. This is really bad. The fact that she mostly has negative deltas or sub-50% winrates in her ''good'' matchups is terrible.

As for her bad matchups, she loses horribly against them, with terrible winrates and deltas. Things like Xerath Fizz Zilean and Ekko have traditionally been great against Syndra (range or invul), but this is too polarised. I cannot find any balanced or good champion that has that many bad matchups and that are that polarised.

All in all, she barely has any favorable matchups statistically currently (that are not against bad champions in soloq), and the rest are sub-50% or super polarised.

Syndra is a squishy and slow-moving champion that lacks the range of other mages and has predictable burst (all of which are intended), hence why she has bad matchups into things that out-range her or that have some type of invulnerability.

However, she should be able to have succeed in matchups that favor her, like Cassiopeia Ahri Veigar, by having better damage/burst/pressure, but she's not even favored in those matchups currently (apart from triple nerfed Cassio). She's one of the few champions that constantly runs out of mana, she is punished easily, and she can't just farm for late-game because she has poor scaling.


LCS: Some may say Syndra is left in this state because in LCS. In NA LCS: Banned: 10/40 games. Picked: 9/40 games. Presence: 47.5%. WInrate: 44.4%.

She does have a high presence. However, in almost none of the games is she carrying or a champion to play around. She's just a comfort pick for a lot of pros and she does what pros want: kill a target with the right setup. Overall, she is not performing well and is not a priority pick. She is picked and banned when priority picks are picked or banned.


Suggestions:

  • MUST: FIX HER W BUGS. She still has the bug where W'ing a minion won't give gold sometimes. She still has the bug where she sometimes won't be able to recast W. She still has the bug where sometimes, when you W out of range, her sphere will just fly all over the place, deal no damage, and put her W on CD.

Small buff (one of the three):

  • Increase her base HP/HP per level. Being squishy is an intended weakness. However, she is punished too easily with her lack of range. She could use more survivability.

  • Give her a small scaling mana refund when her abilities hit enemy champions. Syndra constantly runs out of mana to prevent being able to constantly stack spheres for her ultimate or waveclear forever. However, she should be able to have extended fights/trades without running out of mana so quickly like other mages. This would reward hitting your skillshots.

  • Make her W be able to grab things farther, but have her throw range the same. Right now, when you QE, your sphere goes out of your W range, and when there is no target around, your left with nothing to use. To play around this, right now, Syndra players use their W during the combo to be able to grab/throw it out of range. However, as listed in the bugs, it sometimes doesn't work. This could help smooth out her combos without increasing the range of her damage.

I really want Riot to bring back Syndra's ability to pick up multiple spheres with a rank 5 W.
