Make Lux E damage scale over the duration

GrReaper96··5 votes·2,069 views

Lux E already creates a 350 aoe zone up to 1100 range away thats gives vision and slow for up to 5 seconds. Theres no reason to make it an insta nuke as well. It should be something around the lines of this:

Lucent Singularity MAGIC DAMAGE: 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 (+ 50% AP) which increases 75/120/165/210/265 (+75%AP) over the duration of 2 seconds

In return the max damage would be highger than the live version perhaps lower its mana cost a little to 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 MANA

At least then Lux Q E combo would be more interactive instead of landing Q and double tapping E, as this rewards Lux ever more for landing her Q rather than aimlessly throwing her E.

EDIT: PLS NOTE THIS IS NOT A DIRECT NERF THIS IS A SHIFT OF POWER SHE WOUD ACTUALLY GAIN MORE DAMAGE IF USED CORRECTLY

Actually I have reasons as to why this would be an awful thing to do. I might be biased towards Lux, but considering the fact that this is actually dodgable, and nobody is stupid enough to walk back into it if they already did dodge it / get out of it, it's killing her damage. Even if you land her snare, all the enemy would have to do is build Merc treads. Now not only are they not gonna stay snared long enough for it to charge, thus taking reduced damage that way, they also have the MR from the boots which reduces it further, assuming they didn't just walk out of it all together. It isn't uncommon for someone with mercs to be able to walk out of her E R combo after Q lands, because most people wait to make sure the snare lands. You'd be surprised how much a little MR could do for you.

I'd also like to point out Riot hasn't changed the damage numbers on her E at all since her release, which was a little more than 6 years ago (Oct 18 2010). She's also never received any damage buffs aside from a slight one on her passive when they also nerfed her Q damage (Illumination: Damage increased to 20 - 190 (based on level) from 18 - 154 (based on level). So over 6 years of time, and Riot hasn't touched her. Pretty sure she's balanced. Just build MR or learn how to dodge it, isn't hard

  1. Although it is dodgeble, as North Wind has stated, you have to be pretty terrible to be able to miss your E as Lux. Unless the enemy has a mobility skill it is extremely easy and rewarding to land. Other AP poke champs like Velkoz Xerath have easier skills to dodge. This could actually create counterplay againts Lux and would separate the good Lux from the bad Lux. Besides if you do somehow miss your E, a 40% cdr Lux ( which is very common) has it on a 6 seconds cd so you can just spam it (not to mention i suggested reduce mana cost so even more spam)

  2. Merc threads is a very common build againts Lux. This change would not encourage enemies to get it againts Lux any more than they already do. Even with merc threads Lux can easily throw her full combo in less than a sec unless she messes up, so once again seperating the good Lux from the bad ones.

  3. Note that, similar to Gragas, I made it so the damage is max after 2 seconds, not after the full 5 sec duration ( i even bolded that part). Meaning that even 1 second charge would make it pretty much equal to live version. Hence, even with tenacity the enemy would just experience the live version damage, while those without would take even more damage. This change only punishes double tapping E.

  4. While they did nerf the Q damage, they also removed the half damage to secondary target. So it was a nerf to 1 target but a buff if she land her Q on 2 enemies

EDIT: With the new Ultimate skin Lux has rose from 10% playrate, which is already pretty high, to 19% playrate and yet her winrate is still above 50%.

That's the entire point though. It's not really dodgeable. You just have to aim it in the general direction of the enemy. It's fast, has a huge range and a huge radius. Simply mentioning that you need to build MR to counter it shows how unavoidable it is. You literally have to take it, it's not even an option. You just eat it in the face every few seconds and try to stay in lane despite it. It's like a Malph ulti, that's about how avoidable it is. You can flash it or occasionally bait it or dodge it with a gap closer, but as long as you don't focus your entire existence at dodging one spell that she farts out every 7 seconds, it will hit you. Even better, if you dodge too hard, you're gonna get baited into a Q- and that's a 100-0 at most stages of the game.

EDIT: and I don't say she's OP. I've killed countless of them. But she's mighty annoying, considering she has reliable poke, immense burst that's actually AoE, AND she's surprisingly hard to kill if Barrier is up. She's like Yasuo, certainly not OP but still rather toxic.

N0rth Wind2 votes

I wholeheartedly support this.

I don't understand why we're still acting like this skill is a skillshot.

Like, missing Lux's E is the equivalent of a total blindness test.

GrReaper962 votes

Exactly. Since its gonna hit anyways the only time she doesnt double tap E is to hold minion waves or to get bush vision. And for something so easy to hit it deals a ton of damage.

N0rth Wind1 votes

It's not so much the damage that it deals, it's the whole package. Annie's Q is also guaranteed to hit but it's balanced around that - Lux's E is also guaranteed to hit unless you totally bait her out, but it's still balanced like a skillshot. In lane, especially as a melee, you pretty much have to just tank it. There's no other option. You just accept that youll be taking that poke, and try to burst her down (through the W and Barrier that she will have no doubt, lel).

Final Spark Lux1 votes

I can't mid with her :s so I never have barrier

N0rth Wind1 votes

Mid is even easier than support tbh. Just build Morellonomicon as fast as possible, and spam E constantly on top of the enemy. Even against assassins, by the time they've hit their powerspikes (even as early as level 2) you've poked them into submission anyway, so it's fruitless. But even if some pesky Talon manages to land his burst on you, worry not, cause you can muster like a 500HP shield with Barrier and W at lvl2, and at level 6 you can 60-0% pretty much any midlaner that isn't rushing Abyssal.

In fact, Lux is so safe that she's the only mid later except for Katarina that I consistently see Mejai's being built on, since she's pretty much a Xerath with easier to land poke, faster lethal combo and actually not defenseless against melee divers/skirmishers/assassins.

Final Spark Lux1 votes

Trying to back your claims with lies, how nice of you. For one, nobody ranks shield at level 2, and even if they do, barrier only shields for 135 at that point. Not sure where you came up with 500 HP shield at level 2, but it's impossible unless Lux had both parts of her shield, barrier, and somehow had 661 AP.

Plenty of champions buy Mejai's. Yes, it might be safer on her to do so, but it doesn't mean shes impervious to deaths. She has no mobility, is insanely squishy, and yeah, actually she is pretty defenseless vs a lot. You miss your Q and you're dead, but we aren't talking about utility, we're talking about her E which is allegedly OP.

Don't you think riot would have done something in the 6 years shes been out had they felt this was toxic to the game? A new skin coming out didn't make her OP. Infact she wasn't even played that often in higher elos. The only reason people are crying OP is because they're too lazy to learn how to play around something they aren't used to vs. And even now, she really isn't played in the highest elos much because she's so vulnerable, and missing something can cost you your life.

N0rth Wind1 votes

You keep putting words in my mouth to make my point easier to attack.

#I Never Said She Is OP. I Am Not Asking For Nerfs. I Did Not Say She Is Too Strong ATM. Is this clear enough? Have I made myself clear?

Good. -.-

What I actually said is that her E, while NOT OVERPOWERED!!!!!, is really annoying because it feels like you're meant to dodge it but you can't really do that. It's like Yasuo's E: Is it OP? No, it's not. Is it fucking cancer? Yes. Yes it is.

And also, she's good at too many things compared to other Mages like Xerath. She is NOT MORE POWERFUL OVERALL!!!!!, but she does have a much broader range of what she can perform well at compared to similar champions.

Yes, she is not excessively played in High Elo because SHE IS NOT BROKEN!!!!! however that's not to say that she couldn't use a bit of a touch up to get her more in line with the rest of the siege mages. There's no reason why one of them gets to have poke, shields, CC and AoE burst. And, again, OVERALL SHE IS BALANCED AROUND THIS SO SHE'S NOT OP but she still does too much stuff. Maybe if one of them was a bit nerfed, she could actually do the others more properly AND be less annoying to her enemies.

Final Spark Lux1 votes

How did I put words in your mouth? You clearly wrote she can get a 500 shield at level 2 with W and barrier. It's literally impossible. That isn't me putting words in your mouth, that's me doing some simple math. Her shield actually was recently nerfed. Late game while maxed and both parts of it, it shields for a LITTLE bit more than it used to, and they slowed its projectile down quite a bit. Honestly it's trash now, and you really won't see anyone rank it past rank 1 until everything else is already ranked.

I just don't understand how you can claim she does too much stuff. Must I list all the other mages available that can do the same thing more reliably? Theres quite a few of them. If we're gonna start nerfing champions according to apparent annoying-ness, then most champs are gonna get nerfed. She does exactly what she's supposed to properly, no changes are needed.

You claim this: "I Never Said She Is OP. I Am Not Asking For Nerfs. I Did Not Say She Is Too Strong ATM." yet you keep bringing up the fact that she has a 51% winrate and needs to be changed. This change would be a mighty big nerf. All her poke is on E, and nobody is gonna stand in it waiting for it to be charged up. Believe it or not, E is very dodge-able. Just either practice playing against her, or play her a bit to get the feel for her E and you'll be surprised how easy it is to dodge.

Funny thing is, it used to work like this in early S5. Also had to sit on the ground for 0.1 seconds before you could detonate. But, they buffed it because she had an ultimate skin coming (back then they claimed it was for Australian players).

RexSaur2 votes

Lux is not overpowered though, shes on the balanced if not a little underpowered side of the balance.

Theres just no reason to pick her over the likes of viktor/cass/ryze/syndra/etc

So if anything she should see buffs, not nerfs.

GrReaper961 votes

Shes currently at a 51% winrate with a 19% playrate (considering she had an ultimate skin). Once again this isnt a nerf or a buff its a shift of power

Danjeng1 votes

There is already pay off for letting it charge. Could be used to Zone/Slow an area. You can't slow the area if it's already detonated.

GrReaper961 votes

Yeah which is most of the time used when running away or stopping creep wave. Its not about the payoff of charging its about the almost no loss of simply double tapping E 90% of the time

Danjeng1 votes

Too bad at least 9 Lux mains at this time down voted you.
