Tips to kill gnar?

I played a couple ranked games today and one of them was top vs gnar. I main morde and did fine though we both went 0-0-0 in lane.

He's too mobile to kill in normal form, even with rylais and boots with my Ulti perma slow. And he's also to strong to kill in mega form. I came close by baiting him to fight in mega form but I still couldn't kill him with a full rotation of abilities and ignite.

When exactly is the window to kill this guy?

Also gj riot making a champ as annoying as teemo, zyra, or heimer to lane against.

Gnar counters Morde and really anyone without a gap closer to kill him. I play Fiora and I've played against players far better than me who chose Gnar and yet have never lost. My advice is just pick another champion. He is getting nerfed a bit though as is his item build.

Don't pick someone who can get kited easily. Having sticking power and % max health damage would be best against him. Mini Gnar kites really well, while Mega Gnar is tanky while not sacrificing, and maybe even gaining, damage. Morde gets kited against Gnar, that's just what he does. Gnar also will likely build Frozen Mallet, so combine that with the movement speed from his W, and you're never gonna stick onto him. Also, remember that his abilities share cooldowns between the forms. If he all-ins you in Mega Gnar, then Mini Gnar won't have any abilities up when he transforms back. This is your time window to kill him - right after he transforms, before his cooldowns come back up.

Reduce his HP to 0.

morde doesnt have much chase, you need some hard gap closer (irelia, jax). Otherwise play a melee bruiser and dodge his melee form skill shots (their super telegraphed and a straight line, easy to dodge). So yeh either gap close on him in ranged, or fight with him in melee. Your pick .

Dont think morde can do well vs him, but I havent seen a morde in years so idk

It's about champions who can close the gap in his mini form, such as Irelia, Yasuo, Renekton and other champions who can keep up with him. The thing about Gnar is that if you don't kill him relatively quickly his hyper %HP damage (which i feel is the most BS thing about him) will eventually turn the tide of the fight unless you have some form of sustain in your kit or items. If you play an immobile tank you basically will not kill a decent Gnar in any stage of the game.

If he's in mega form just try not to fight him, his burst can be deceptively strong.
