"We’d rather help those champs become less reliant on Rylai’s with future changes..."

I don't know why but this makes me really happy.

Champions should never be 100% balanced around one specific item for their kits to function and Riot acknowledging that is a step in the right direction.

Especially champs who have been nerfed repeatedly because of it can rest easy now Viktor Azir Taliyah Cassiopeia

And those who have been overly reliant on it might just emerge better off than they were before Mordekaiser AurelionSol Karthus

And watch Riot forget to buff the ones that got nerfed specifically because of Rylai's after Rylai's is changed.

sejuani doesn't even need buffs lol

That isn't to say that she was overnerfed.

Big Lincoln5 votes

she's got some pretty big design flaws that make her very hard to be strong without dominating the meta. she's in a good spot for what she offers

50000000000000005 votes

I'm not saying she's weak (or strong, for that matter) now. I'm saying that she was overnerfed when cinderhulk was nerfed.

Meep Man1 votes

Evidently not though because she is in a very balanced spot and has received little to no changes since then.

GuardAbuse1 votes

That was a while back tho. There's been many item changes that can give her strengths. Jungle changes as well.

She was at a 60% winrate. How are people still calling the nerfs unjustified.

Divewing2 votes

Because she was fine pre-cinderhulk. When an item breaks a single champion, you nerf the champion. When an item breaks multiple champions (a group or even a whole class), you nerf the item. Sej was a case of the latter, but riot employed the method of the former first, then didn't undo that after employing the method of the latter.

Big Lincoln1 votes

she would be back to that winrate with introduction of new jungle and cotc

Divewing1 votes

Probably, but we all know both of those need(ed?) nerfs

Thanks for the post MM!

Thanks to you I saw the 6.24 patch notes hit only 30 mins after they release, normally it takes me an hour or two.

wow, that's a beautiful pic, Rylai herself is happy about this model

AurelionSol "A bit gaudy for my tastes but exceedingly useful."

I can only hope Riot would make him not entirely deleted by the mere presence of a diver or any1 with 1+ instant gapclosers.

You know, this could EASILY be fixed if his Q could be double tapped. It fires too far out to stop those who sit on top of you.

Stars Shaper1 votes

To be honest, I've always agreed to this function weakness especially because it can be bypassed by starting to escape and shoot it backwards, the small bit between your escape and the enemy reaction allows you to stun him even if he chases.

What I did not agree though was the constant nerfing of both Stars damage and Ultimate damage/CD. Aurelion Sol is not tanky enough to self sustain himself enough to survive like a Swain or a Gragas and he also commits more than them into the fight.

That said, I'm looking forward to possible changes too, to me it has been a huge nerf and Riot needs to see if it was indeed too much for a character the majority of players shelved even before the Assassin update.

He was shelved for most players within the first month of his release because of his difficulty. Not so for people in higher MMRs, but even when his win rate was super high, his pick rate was small. Now it's approaching Urgot, but... not because of his power level.

I don't think they're going to up star damage. They nerfed it early game because of how uninteractive it made his first few levels in lane. His late game damage is already great, so a buff there might not help him much. I could see them lowering ult cooldown or giving it back some of its previous better slowing power, though, if it turns out he needs compensation from Rylai's nerfs.

Rylai plays a really huge part in his build and cutting down its stats like that makes Aurelion just far easier to kill because he can't time his skills better in order to adapt, his damage is on a fixed time span and his only choice of high damage window is his ultimate while both Karthus and morde can choose when to allign all their skills in order to get the enemy poked and then finish him/her.

Aurelion has to wait for stars which leaves the enemy enugh space and time to react because he perfectly knows when he is going to get hurt and how much.

ImmortalBloodCY1 votes

There's also the fact that any hard CC will disable Aurelion Sols Stars and put them on cooldown of 3 seconds.

Dolasaur1 votes

I do think it's likely he could use a buff after the Rylai's nerf. I'm just not discounting players' ingenuity yet. There's always the possibility that some other build will rise to prominence that's even better than the old Rylai's build was, sort of like in season 4 when AD Kog started going TriForce. Or heck, Rylai's wasn't popular on Karthus until a year or two ago either, and the timing of when he started using it wasn't immediately after it got buffed, either.

I'm not going to comment on Morde at all since I have almost no experience playing as him.

These Patchnotes look promising :P

While his rework toned down his upfront damage, new Rengar was getting enough attack damage from Bonetooth Necklace to retain the frustration old Rengar wrought. We’re dialing back his scaling to make sure squishy champions get a response to respond to knifecat before he claws their faces off. While we were investigating his Bonetooth damage, we found a bug: it was scaling off of total, not bonus attack damage. We’re fixing that, and compensating via base attack damage scaling to avoid a double-nerf.

Now that, that makes me happy :D

Aurelion Sol definitely needs compensations in exchange for the Rylai's nerf. In my opinion, his "E" should apply a slow automatically - the success of a character concept should not entirely rely on a specific item. Obviously there will be optimal builds and focus on certain stats, but his mechanics seem to predicate that he has Rylai's in his inventory to benefit from the passive.

Meep Man1 votes

I'm just glad this turned out to be a net benefit for Singed . Getting Rylai's 600 gold faster is amazing since he mainly got it for the passive which has remained mostly unchanged for him.

i have high hopes that morde, brand , karthus and aurelion are well looked after the rylais nerf

VivaLaKitten1 votes

uh, without that kiting, Aurelion is gonna be so unreliable >.> I can say the same for Morde, but he's unreliable either way
