Quit complaining about Veigar and Zilean half-reworks.

Daedalus871··7 votes·1,002 views

Those were legitimate half-reworks that addressed major problems in their kit.

Instead, complain about the half that didn't get reworked. Veigar's Dark Matter needs to be changed and Zilean's Passive, W, and possibly his E desperately need to be changed.

Expecting Zil to hit two 2-axis skill shots in a row (can miss both left-right and short-long) is a bit ridiculous. I think making Q a skillshot was healthy, but locking up his power budget in the doublebomb sucks.

Veigar....where to begin? I guess cage needed a change, but it almost completely invalidated one play pattern of his kit (picks). Also, the fact that his changes were supposed to be compensation for removal of DFG, but included ratio nerfs.... it's ridiculous. W's still too hard to hit, now Q is less reliable too.

If half decent changes were made to Zileans Passive, W, and I'm going to say the slow should be up there too, the double bomb changes would have been perfectly fine. The point and click double for 40% of your health at level 2 needed to be changed.

Veigar, as you said, needed to lose the insta stun. It's still a pretty powerful zoning tool as is. The Q changes may be less reliable, but now it has more range and farms slightly easier, making up for the ratio nerfs to his ult. Really the only thing that Veigar needs right now is for Dark Matter to get changed to something other than a farming tool.

MrButtermancer5 votes

CD on Q increased. Even in ideal circumstances the passive farm is less. Add that to the fact it's unreliable, AND the ulti got a ratio nerf, and Veigar is unquestionably doing less damage.

Daedalus8711 votes

Veigar Q can now hit 2 targets. With the range increase as well, he can farm waves faster and safer. All things consider, I'm calling the Q change a net positive, and it's definitely no worse than neutral.

The ult got nerfed because Veigar is supposedly getting more AP farm now. I'm not sure how true that is due to not playing him too much before the changes. But seeing as his ult still does 500 +1.0 AP + 0.8 enemy AP, I think his ult still does plenty of damage.

MrButtermancer3 votes

He cannot farm "faster and safer" against way more popular mid picks, because now his Q is a skill shot, it's way easier to all-in him. Before, even Yasuo had to be careful, because Veigar could stab him with a Q for considerable damage a few seconds after an autoattack, even when Yasuo initiated. Veigar could trade.

This is even worse against champions like Kat. Even with Kat going in Q E Kat would probably eat a Q, it would be in Kat's favor but not by a huge amount. Now there are way more ways that can miss. For one thing, if Kat Shunpos when Veigar Qs, she will go over it. If she Shunpos right before, she's on top of him, it will probably miss. And no matter what, the CD on Q itself is lowered so it's less likely Veigar gets a second chance before she's out of range.

So despite Veigar being able to technically reach the minions better, he's WAY less threatening to enemy mids... which means they're much likelier to out-trade, or given his lack of mobility, kill him. Which is completely backwards from everything he used to be. He used to be a threat. Not the biggest threat, not even unfair, he just had honest damage. Now if you have stuff between you and him, or a mobility skill, he's irrelevant unless you can secure the gold from killing him. He's unreliable, he has no mobility, and he can't even reach the back row while standing in the middle of the enemy front line. That's a crappy mage. He's not bursting anyone.

Daedalus8712 votes

Veigar is a late game champ. He has infinitely scaling damage, his ult is probably doing close to 2000 magic damage to enemy, and really, all of his damage has ridiculous AP scaling. He is clearly a late game champ. So if Veigar has to work hard to go even in lane, I think that is more than fine.

Furthermore, so what if Veigar if no longer guaranteed to hit the back line if standing in the frontline? Veigar was never able to walk up to the enemy front line and blow up the backline; he would get destroyed if he even thought about it. Veigar already has a metric shit ton of damage, so if he has to work to use it, I think that is more than fair.

MrButtermancer3 votes

Did you ever play the real Veigar? He could absolutely walk into the front line and kill the back (with cover from his team or with a well-placed E). There were certainly ways to prevent it and make it less likely, but it could happen.

Also no, he does 2000 magic damage if everything hits. Which it doesn't if the enemy has a brain OR a mobility skill OR tenacity OR they are lucky and simply move at the right time by random chance. His kit is unforgivably slow. Base move speed can avoid most of his damage. 2000 damage to the ground is 0 damage.

Daedalus8712 votes

Did you ever play prerework Veigar? He is and has always been a squishy burst mage. If he even thought about walking up to the front line he would die.

And yes he does do 2000 magic damage with his ult, assuming he has 1000 AP and the enemy has 625, both fairly reasonable numbers late game assuming you/your team is not terrible. 500 + 1000 + 625*0.8 = 2000 magic damage. Now quit your bitching and grow the fuck up.

MrButtermancer2 votes

And what, the enemy has 0 MR and, like happens late game, Veigar's other spells all miss? If you're comfortable assuming that, there's still a problem.

Also... Veigar could absolutely walk up to the front line with cover in a teamfight or if he had cover from his Event Horizon. You think Rammus and Olaf could kill him on the other side of the stunwall? He couldn't BE there very long, but he had long enough to combo if you were fast. Now that's not an option.

Also, your responses have become toxic. Do not make personal attacks on the forums. There are better ways of expressing disagreement than acting like a kid.

Daedalus8711 votes
  1. There is a reason I said magic damage. Pretty much any other damage to a squishy guarantees that they die.
  2. By the time you walk into range of the backline, the front line would be able to either damage or cc you to death. And Olaf or Rammus? Could you pick a more unpopular tank? Maybe Galio? Of course he's actually a good pick against Veigar so I get why you didn't throw him out.
  3. I'm acting like a kid? Your entire argument has pretty much been "Wah Veigar no longer has an instant AoE stun or DFG and he no longer has 5000 damage that's pretty much guaranteed! Waaaaaaaaaah!"
MrButtermancer1 votes

This is your reality check. I am being civil to you. There is something wrong with your behavior.

Daedalus8711 votes

Veigar used to have a shit ton of point and click damage and a long ass AoE stun. If the Veigar player was good, he could just destroy anyone. If the Veigar player was bad, he would get destroyed until he reached critical mass and destroyed everyone. He had an incredibly binary playstyle.

If you don't see the problems that Veigar had and why he had to be changed, and it appears that you don't, you deserve to be mocked.

MrButtermancer2 votes

Veigar was changed because Riot was threatened that he was going bottom as a stunbot support, NOT because he was any kind of popular, threatening, or unfair mid pick. He's never been common mid. He was broken bottom because Riot's base stun on him was messed up.

Veigar is one champion I could see having a scaling CC ability. If they want him to go mid, I could see making his stun last up to 2.25 seconds based on an AP ratio. That way he couldn't go bottom and immediately be really scary. He'd need carry items, and couldn't go support as readily.

Daedalus8711 votes

Yeah, that one week in the LCS that Veigar support was played in the LCS was why he got nerfed.

It couldn't possibly be because that he had inherent problems where he was a burst mage that if played right, would just destroy any enemy of his choice.

While old Veigar needed to rely on Event Horizon's immediate stun to zone out potential threats, keeping its current iteration meant we either needed to reduce Veigar's damage (but you can't reduce a 100-0 burst mage to 100-20) or tackle his outright reliability. Ultimately we went with the latter.

Hi there Patch 5.4 notes. I see that you also agree that Veigar had inherent problems in his kit with his insane amount of damage and cc. I see that you also don't mention anything about professional play.

Ovion1 votes

The true problem about Veigar is that is lane phase is REALLY BORING now You can't be the "aggressor" now because his E is hard to hit, making his W hard too. He is still good, but his playstyle is now _ farm-until-100-0-enemyAP_

I feel like both of these are semi-reworks until a healthier kit can be made for both. I doubt Riot likes how Zilean and Veigar are right now and would want to give them a rework to better their identities and make them healthier for the game.

Zilean becomes more super timey and Veigar becomes more all powerful dark mage.

MrButtermancer4 votes

That was supposed to be a "buff" that compensated Veigar for the loss of DFG. Instead, it gave him a new worse problem, a complete lack of non-ulti reliable damage. He can't trade. What's the point in having a lot of AP if you can't hit anything, especially the back row, who are going to be behind the tanks. Veigar got cursed out if he focused a tank before these changes, now tanks and bruisers are the only people he's hitting in teamfights. His Q is unreliable. It hurts his lane. It hurts his teamfight. It hurts his entire kit, and it hurts his fun.

Veigar used to feel like he got more powerful as the game progressed, now he feels worse because the CDs on everyone else's mobility skills getting lower makes way more difference than his increasing AP. Longer range? Yeah. He can miss from further away.

Veigar is fine

Zilean is total ass right now

Daedalus8714 votes

Veigar can be played. That's a little different than fine. He should have something done to his Dark Matter.

Zilean needs a new passive and 2 new spells.

Ovion2 votes

I still don't understand why Riot kept his old passive... It doesn't help Zilean at all...

MrButtermancer3 votes

Veigar's new Q can't do it's job. He can't reach the back row even if he's standing in the middle of the enemy frontline, which is already over-extended for him. His lack of targeted damage makes him extremely easy to out-trade meaning his laning is defensive and miserable. All the risk is on him. His stuff is delayed and unreliable, and because he has no mobility or other tricks, when he misses he dies.

Daedalus8711 votes

Again, if you did something to Veigar's Dark matter, possibly as simple as reducing it to a 0.75 delay, Veigar would be decent to play. Maybe even LCS worthy.

Ovion1 votes

Remember it's a high dmg ability + high AP ratio Maybe 1.0 or 0.9 delay, but if they reduce the delay more, Riot will nerf its dmg for sure and we don't want that item 3070

Summonerrr 11 votes

Let's just agree that we don't agree and keep it civil please? You both have valid points. The changes were meant to coincide with a percieved problem that no longer exists, and regardless of post-DFG veigar's perceived strength, he is nowhere near the viability position he was for a multitude of reasons.

It's common knowledge that Riot tends to err on the side of caution with outright nerfs and buffs, especially in regard to "unanticipated results" so don't expect him to get fine-tuned before worlds, yeah?

I have a feeling the delay on his event horizon will actually be a benefit when they get his kit thematically back in line with the all-powerful tiny master of evil.

Not many people dispute that his insta-aoe stun off of old E was oppressive, but equally few people agree that he is in a good spot competitively at the moment. Adding caution to the wind is the fact that champions with indeterminate scaling tend to be left well alone by riot even when sweeping changes happen to the meta, unless a very serious problem develops.

Nasus and Sion for instance have had no major post-rework/release tuning done to them despite the fact that changes happened and will keep happening to core items in their kit.

Just because something is broken doesn't mean it needs to be fixed RIGHT NOW if doing it fast means it doesn't get done right, but that doesn't invalidate the point that it needs to be fixed.

Civil discussion is the soil that cultivates collaborative conclusions that have impact and scope. Even if you don't agree 100%, you can still find common ground.

I don't see any 56.25% winrate.

I see a 52.06% winrate. I see a 46.04% winrate. And Lolking has a 49.24% winrate.

And regardless of winrate, Zilean feels miserable to play. He has next to no damage, cc, and mobility and all of his spells are either short ranged or incredibly hard to hit. He could use some changes.
