Can people quit acting like building health on Soraka is bad?

It's not bad. Yes, getting a Warmogs will increase the cost of her heal by 80 health, but she will still have 720 extra health left.

Let's say you had 2000 health before getting a Warmogs, and 2800 after getting. Without Warmogs it costs 200 health leaving you with 1800. With Warmogs, it costs 280 leaving you with 2520. Lets say you were at 20% health. That's 400 health for the non Warmogs Soraka and 560 with the Warmogs. The non-Warmogs Soraka heals and has 200 health and the Warmogs Soraka heals and has 280 health left.

In all cases, the Soraka with the extra health has more health (Duh). I would also like point out that the extra regen on a Warmogs would allow Soraka to recover the health cost in 10 seconds, 3.3 if she can avoid taking damage.

Now there is the potential issue of it being the only ability that costs % max health, but that doesn't make building health bad on Soraka.

Perhaps there are better things to build on her, such as AP or Mana, but again, the only thing Soraka loses is what she could have built.

Building health on Soraka isn't bad.

While having a little extra health is good for the reasons you outlined, in the long run it would be better to get AP and mana. Your main point is that it would let her keep more health after a heal, but when she has to spam heal because you don't have enough AP to make the heal effective you'll chew through your extra health in no time late game, and be unable to receive as much health back from your Q as you should. Better to get the AP to increase heal effectiveness on others to keep your own health up, as well as increase the amount of health you can insta-regen in a fight just using your Q.`I'm not saying that getting a health item is bad, just not ideal. Instead of Warmogs maybe just get a support item that gives you some health, like Locket of the Iron Solari. Gain some health without minimizing your effectiveness

I'm not saying that building health is the best thing, but there is a large amount of "You should never build health on Soraka because of her heal costs % max health" on the boards.

warmorgs on soraka is pretty much good because it largely increases your health regeneration in relation to your maximum health, as opposed to not having it.

meaning youre gonna pay the same amount of health % as without it, but youre regenerating a larger % of your health per second. warmorgs passive is also not disabled by the heal. so you can keep regenerating while you heal.

so its the ideal defensive item for her.

There is a lot of people on boards who say something like "Don't ever buy health on Soraka it's bad on her".

No one smart says don't build warmogs on Soraka. Warmog's is smart on her because of the regen passive (until the upcoming patch which will make Warmog's terrible on Soraka). The idea is to build health regen and resistances.

So in your example you paid full Warmog price (2500 gold) for 800 HP. And with each W used this value decreases by 10%. If you used your heal 5 times in a fight without self-healing, you actually paid 2500 gold for 400 hp, and that's not gold-effective. On the other hand, building AP gives your heal more power so you can cast it not that often, resulting in lesser self-damage, and Armor/Mres are as effective as on every other champion. Consider buying Zhonyas if you are focused a lot, it gives Soraka everything she needs.

So you shouldn't buy AD against Trundle or Tryn, AS against Nasus or anyone against with Omen or FH, or Armor against someone with LW?

And nobody should buy health ever because as soon as you get damaged the gold efficiency goes down.

Well, you can buy all that things in a situations you mentioned, its just that they are not as effective. If you are a crit-based ADC, you cant just say "Hey, there is Trundle so I will not buy AD" because you can't do anything without AD. If you are a tank against full AD team, you will buy armor even if they get 5 LW because you can't tank without armor. Soraka usually can do her job without building HP. Maybe against some true-damage teams something like Warmog would be effective, but usually if she needs tankyness-she builds Zhonyas, Frozenheart, Zzrot or Aegis/Locket(that gives HP too), maybe even Randuin/Banshee(they give HP too).

Building health on Soraka is a lot less gold efficient than most other stats.

It's true, in most cases you don't want to build health on Soraka because it increases the hp cost of Heal. The exception to this is Warmogs, which provides enough hp regen to offset the hp cost increase.

With that said, warmogs isn't always the best choice. If you aren't at risk of being burst (for instance, if you have a good strong front line that is peeling for you), it may be better to go for utility or ap items instead, to increase your heals and hp return on starcall.

Multiply these numbers by 5 and you would be correct. The description on warmogs isn't clear, but those values are HP/5s (like almost all other health regen in the game), not HP/1s. It takes her 16.67s out of combat to recoup one heal.

The %maxHP health regen on warmogs is pretty good, and raka has crap base regen, so other health regen sources are weak. That's why people get it. They would prefer it give other defensive stats besides health, since the health itself is largely wasted on her, but the regen is strong enough that people get it anyway.
