Victorious skins need to be rethought.

Currently because of how victorious skins are treated they are given out to less than a third of the player base who even participates in ranked. Not to mention the reward itself is not even announced till close to the deadline so people who might want to earn it wouldn't even get a chance to be motivated by the actual reward, but is instead suppose to be motivated by the concept of the reward possibly being something they want.

Problem 1 : Rank requirement Because you are required to get gold, there is a precedent set by the game that gold is where anyone's skill should be at. You have set up 60% of your community to fail the expectation. As a solution you can do something similar to judgement Kayle which only required a certain number of games be played that season. Make it harder set it to something like 100 victories in ranked. Something possible for the wider part of your community.

Problem 2 : Announcement Tell us which skin you are giving us at the start of the season. Period, easy as that.

Problem 3 : Earn every year Because of how its expected to be earned and that it is a yearly exclusive skin, you are expected to earn it every year or tough luck. They could easily make it a choice as the pool gets bigger. Missed seasons 1-5, well in season Six you can choose from any of the victorious skins you missed. This also alleviates the feeling of 'I don't play that role' for some players and allows players who really like a champion to earn the skin they missed.

Problem 4 : Treating the skin like a Badge As you climb ranks you get progressively more stuff. Why cant the things all be considered yearly badges, instead of the skin. You get a boarder for a year, and an icon signifying your accomplishment. Why does the skin have to be so exclusive to players. Timed exclusivity is bad if it never comes back.

Problem 5 : Expectation I covered this in rank requirement but i want to reiterate. The idea that you HAVE to be gold to be considered worthy to earn something sets a precedent that anyone below gold is innately bad when in fact from a competitive standpoint, about 99% if not more of the players who even play ranked are bad at the real game. Rank gets lorded over players, stunts conversations, and is overall the real source of alot of toxicity in the game. the greater half of the toxicity isn't even intentional, its all stress driven. People want to win and climb and will continue to feel like they are held back by all the things around them, including themselves. You may only be able to fix yourself but sometimes thats just not enough. You can do everything right and lose, you can do everything wrong and win. Players see the skin and the only tangible item to earn and the greater majority will never get it with the current system.

The idea of rewarding people for accomplishments is good, but the more valuable and exclusive the reward is, the more desperation its put into people below the line of expectation. Its not healthy for an already stressful environment.

Why do you think you're entitled to a reward you haven't earned?

As for choosing which skin you receive at the end of the year, I can't help but disagree with that as well. Each season is not equal. Gold in Season 1 was a hell of a lot different than Gold now.

Even announcing it at the start of the season is a dumb idea because they choose it based on champion impact on that season.

Like you said, gold players are still quite bad in an absolute sense. As such, making an 'achievement' skin for reaching gold is already basically handing out the reward without really doing anything notable in an absolute sense, so I see no reason to make it even easier.

Also part of those skins 'prestige' isn't intended so much as a reflection of skill, but rather as a memento from the season, so people with the victorious skin can basically be 'Look, I was here during season X, when champion Y was a big deal in the meta!'. The fact victorious skins are chosen at the end of season is closely related to that, because the champion is chosen based on their impact on that ranked season, rather than arbitrarily ahead of time.

i agree with being able to choose which skin, Its looks so unrewarding to play a season just to get the skin and it end up being for something you dont even like. Granted they most likely will never do it, granted championship riven is coming back and they have stated urf ww, riot singed, and some other ones are very possible to return.
