Can we please help Maokai get to monsters in jungle

TL;DR Please give Maokai a way to jump over walls onto monsters once he locates them with saplings.

This might be a bit late, but back before the 4.11 patch, I mained Maokai in the jungle due to his awesome lockdown mechanics (he was essentially the Leona of the jungle). But that patch significant removed his viability as a jungler, but I don't think many care cause of how it increased his viability as a top laner. However as a jungler, I recently tried to rekindle the flame for my old love, only to remember the other problem with Maokai besides his weakened ganking potential.

When Riot nerfed Maokai's W range, I don't think it was actually their intention to make it to where he can no longer go over jungle walls after locating monsters with his saplings. As somebody who remembers how incredibly convenient it was to throw a sapling and twisted advance onto the monster, it urks me to no end to now have to walk around the wall as the monsters run away from the sapling cause it to only hit one of them and significantly increase clear time as I walk all the way around and do less damage with E.

Assuming it wasn't Riot's intention to make jungling that much harder on Maokai, there's a few ways this could be fixed. According to the 4.11 patch notes, W's range was decreased due to W's CDR being decreased and E getting a slow. I'm almost sure if you took a poll, most Maokai players would be willing to go back to the old W cooldown and lose the E slow in exchange for the old 650 W range.

However, ignoring the revert, the simplest solution would be to just give Maokai his old 650 range on W in the select case when he's targeting neutral monsters.

Though if you want to go a more complicated route, there is an idea I had that might add more gameplay options to Maokai's kit. I think it would be a neat idea to where Maokai could target his saplings with W at the full range of his E. Think of something like a Jarvan combo, where he throws a sapling and races to it, except without the damage or knock up. This would allow him far more mobility in the jungle; not only solving my complaint in this thread, but also allowing him to go over walls without the aid of a monster. And when it comes to ganking, he would have to make a strategic decision. Try to race in and W the target so he can put down his full CC and damage. Or race in and throw a sapling into the escape path and W to it, so you can at least knock them up since now Maokai has a hard time ganking champs with dashes (the majority of champs in the league) with his low range W.

If you play Maokai jungle and think he needs help getting to monsters, please upvote this and feel free to mention which idea you think would best solve the problem. If a Rioter could please let me know if making Maokai unable to go over most walls to monsters was intended or not, I would appreciate it.

Any buff to his W range would just make him better Top lane. Hes a lot like Trundle. Any buff they make to him isn't going to make him better in the Jungle, and even if it does people won't care and will just keep going Top.

Wasn't W range reduced because it got %health damage and because they buffed his R quite a bit?

Top lane Maokais are having very little difficulty landing W. If your opponent wants to farm, you can land your W without much effort. If you're having a problem landing W, then just zone them out of their farm and punish them that way. The W range is far more an issue with jungle Maokai which is why you barely see him, but see top Maokai all the time now.

It's true that his W's damage got switched to % damage during that patch (which may be more or less damage depending on the situation), and his R was buffed in the sense that it now follows you instead of staying at one location and quickly becoming obsolete; but those weren't the reasons the range was decreased. It was because they didn't want him to be able to continously lock down an opponent with a lower snare CD, a new slow, and the old knock up. The theory is your skills might be back up before they could recover from the combo and you could start it over again if you could catch them in your snare which would be easier with the old 650 range.

Either way, I presented two other methods of helping him get into the monster pit without flat out increasing W's range if that's too much to ask.
