I honestly want somebody to answer this question. From my own sense of logic, solo queue seems like it should strictly be you against the world. And Flex queue seems like where all the premade teamwork should take place. But out of what seems to just be tradition, duos are allowed in solo queue. Can somebody from Riot explain why they decided to make this choice?

it has always been that way... they reverted it back to the way it was...
and its only duo queue up to diamond i think... and after that you cant duo queue
I think it is ... more forgivable, .. in their eyes because a duo is unlikely to have a majority influence over the team and the decisions.
A duo can work together to some effect without being overwhelming to a less organized team.
A three player party, .. or a trio, .. is able to have much stronger coordination and will more heavily overwhelm an enemy team who is all solo, or even with a duo.
Then of course even more so with a quad or a penta qued team.
