why not slap 10% cdr on sunfirecape?

and increase its cost.

i know i know, that makes it a very powerful item, but tanks are really struggling to reach that 40% mark without mandating frozen heart, but what about the more CD dependent tanks?

the majority of tanks are now in jungle, and that means cinderhulk 95% of the time for that bonus health.

and for the price of playing a non mana thak that wants a cdr+armor item with no mana you get item 3056 the hp's not great but the armor, point runner effect, 150% hp regen, and its own tower stun effect make it pretty good for a top/jungle/support looking to assist in any type of tower dive. also 2650 gold is pretty cheap so you do have options.

It would be a good item if the game actually had turrets, but they were already bad in season 5, nerfed in the pre-season and completely destroyed with the 4th dragon buff change.

That doesn't mean you can't build an item with mana on it. Pretty much every finished item with mana on it that doesn't build out of a tear is still very efficient even if you completely ignore the mana portion of it.

i never buy cinderhulk. unless am playing sion. there is 0 reason to get cinderhulk. i'd rather get more of an early game tankiness from sunfire cape than a cinderhulk. that doesn't even give 500 health when you first get it and at most it gives what. 700-800 health at full build in which armor is more important .

Ralanr1 votes

Then what do you build on tank junglers?

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

sunfire cape or dead mans. i go for cinderhulk sometimes but again. i really don't think its a good item. numbers wise.

There is no item that gives armor, health, and CDR. That is deliberate.

Actually Ohmwrecker does that exactly. Armor, health, and CDR as well as health regen and movespeed near tower locations (whether active or destroyed). It also has an active that disables towers, the issue is it doesn't really give enough health, the armor is high but not competitive because then other items would be much less attractive. . . actually the item is better than what I thought having just written it down like this, might start building it actually.

You're right, sometimes I forget Ohmwrecker exists.

Perhaps Sunfire Cape could use another buff, but I'd rather it be one more in tune with its specific goals (e.g. strong sustained defenses and damage when engaging in close combat), rather than just an extra stat to make it more attractive. CDR is specifically hard to acquire on tanks because it's meant to be a deliberate decision (e.g. "I want more uptime on my CC"), as with mages, rather than something incidental to their normal build.

Personally, I also dislike stats on items that don't contribute to their main goals, since it tends to confuse incentives when purchasing them, and in the long term can be detrimental to itemization as a whole because items end up being picked based on the heft of their stat list, rather than their niche (that's already somewhat the case now on some items, particularly tanky choices like Righteous Glory/Dead Man's Plate/Sunfire Cape). Perhaps CDR would be more relevant on Sunfire than on most other tanky options, considering how the item's all about sustained effectiveness, but it still doesn't really directly enhance the item's function, whereas health and armor let the user last longer when sticking around to apply the burn aura.

Seeing how Sunfire got buffed only recently (i.e. last patch), it might be worth waiting a little longer to see if it really needs another top-up to reach the level of popularity it deserves, but if it's still not there yet it might be worth jacking up its unique strengths even further. Taking its most recent buff, dropping its bonus damage against monsters and instead having the burn deal 100% bonus damage to minions would reinforce its niche as a waveclear option for tanky top laners, for example, and adding back Cinderhulk's old ramping damage could emphasize its function as a source of sustained dueling power, as opposed to DMP's focus on initiation-centric damage and CC.
