"It's just a normal so I can do whatever I want"

L Psy Kongroo··77 votes·6,182 views

Sure, go right ahead. But if you end up going 2/18 by the end of the game while refusing to group, not buying wards, and diving heedlessly into the enemy without a care time after time, you bet your ass I'm reporting you and I hope you get banned from all video games forever.

There's a point where this apathy becomes too much to handle. I don't care if you want to play AP Ez top lane, Nautilus support, or TF ADC with Essence Reaver rush. But if your attitude throughout the game is "hey, this game doesn't mean shit, so I can act as dumb as I want!", you deserve 9x reports and a perma-ban. You want to know why this game is so frustrating? Because of the dickheads who lurk in TB/blind normals who's only intention is to ruin the experiences of the rest of their team by performing the actions described above, all while hiding behind the lame-ass excuse of "it's just a normal, don't take it so seriously".

Like I said, I DON'T take normals as seriously as ranked games, and I don't believe people should. Constant competition all the time is unhealthy, and sometimes it's nice to kick back with a relaxing, fun normal game, or ARAM. What gets me though is the sheer audacity of individuals who believe that being in a normal game gives them the right to play however badly the want and laughing off the pleas of their teammates with "calm down, it's just a normal". Where is the logic in this? What is the point in playing the game if you don't at least TRY to win? Going 2/18 can't possibly be fun; you'd spend more time staring at the death screen than actually playing. And if you're just sitting there staring at the screen, why not go watch videos on YouTube instead?

Long story short, I can't fathom what goes through someone's mind when they use the argument "it's just a normal". There are people who use it as an excuse to play weird shit, like Zilean jungle, which I'm totally ok with. What I'm NOT ok with are the people who say "it's just a normal" and attempt to 1v3 at every opportunity (without being fed), refuse to group and ward, not take objectives, etc. These people are absolute scum, not only because of their terrible attitude, but because their actions ruin the experience of every other member of the team while being 100% UNREPORTABLE. The closest you have is Assisting Enemy Team, but with nothing in chat to explicitly prove this (other than "it's just a normal", which for some reason doesn't qualify), no action can be taken against them.

Someone please explain to me how these people live with themselves, and why exactly they believe what they're saying makes sense. What are your thoughts on this matter? Have any of you faced a similar situation before, and what did you do?

LOL THIS! A THOUSAND TIMES THIS!

It's amazing how many people suddenly "don't care" when they're doing terrible.
Or "lol bro you think I'm trying?"

So just a PSA: We know you were trying. Sorry you got dumpstered like the trash you are but damnit have some dignity.

Personally I'm far more forgiving to the guy who says "I'm just having a bad game, sorry guys" than to the fool pretending "they don't care." They're fooling no one.

I'd just like to reaffirm the OP's point. My anivia top is the best, and nobody beats my AP corki support (or jinx support, or Katarina support*). But playing something weird is a TOTALLY different thing from playing poorly and CONTINUING to do stupid stuff and using "it's a normal" as an excuse.

######*Okay, a fair amount of people beat my kat support. The point stands.

Hey man, Anivia top works better than Anivia support (she needs farm)/adc/jungle (especially jungle) at the very least. Have you ever tried it against a Ryze? Start flask, rush catalyst, then chalice/tear, and finally whatever ap build works for you.

Drukyul2 votes

Hey man, Anivia top works better than Anivia support (she needs farm)

The spellthief line still generates a ton of gold.

Hyrum Graff3 votes

Ehh, I think they're about the same. Anivia herself is certainly stronger when farmed, but anivia support:

  1. is a pretty big lane bully if you can avoid getting hooked/grabbed/bubbled etc in the first few levels. Once she gets a few ranks in e her poke really picks up, since (unlike lane-nivia, she doesn't need to spend mana csing or controlling the wave).
  • A result of her needing pretty much only mana in lane.
  1. Her passive is much more useful in a 2-man lane. The baits are real!
  2. Snowballs really hard. If you get ahead, two e-r combos (advanced version of r-e, with smartcast) will 100-25 the enemy adc, zoning them off their minion wave
  3. Makes focusing hard in botlane skirmishes. She provides just the right amount of damage, cc (stun, wall, 20% AS slow on ult), and tankiness (SS + passive) to make it bad to ignore her, AND bad to focus her.
  4. With her excellent scaling, she can work to secure kills, knowing that if she accidentally KSes, she'll be able to use that gold almost as well as the adc.
  5. If she gets behind, she still has enough utility in her kit to keep her adc safe (unless they have super hard engage, wall + stun + aoe slow are usually enough) and contribute to teamfights (20% AS slow, wall, and once you get liandry's, that's all you need to deal lots of AOE DPS). I also love getting Frozen Heart on her, so I can have a 40% on-demand, AOE AS slow.
  6. Don't forget about the vision her wall gives. It's a really long range.
  7. Especially if the game makes it to late-game, Anivia is another damage threat, even when her build is item 3027 item 2045 item 3110 item 3092 item 1001 item 3151 Boots are mercs/sorc/speed, depending on how much CC/MR they have, and how much damage my team needs. Swap out the FQC later for a zhonya, banshee, abyssal, void staff, or twin shadows, situationally. This makes it difficult for the other team to focus (usually, you can ignore the support and focus the carries. She won't have the burst of full AP bird, but she'll be able to AOE dps with ult+liandries, and that's hard to ignore.
  • Perhaps the most important thing is this: Anivia's biggest issue in this meta is her immobility. As carry-nivia, it's too easy to catch her and kill her, or at least cc her and prevent her from dealing enough damage to carry. But as support bird, you often are ignored, allowing you to actually get off that dps.
  • But if the other team focuses you, they're letting your carries wreak havoc, and you have your passive. You're also reasonably tanky, with FH + ROA + other defensive items as needed.

Hey man, Anivia top works better than Anivia support (she needs farm)/adc/jungle (especially jungle) at the very least.

Anivia is only mid/support.... Her working in top?? Sure. That explains why Anivia never wanted to be in top lane against my Volibear. She'll get crushed by the common tanky top laners like Volibear/Renekton/Jax, and Pantheon could probably destroy her with ease, too.

You seem to be the one rational person that fits the middle ground. While I do use the logic of, "It's just a normal" I also apologize to my poor performance if it occurs. You seem to understand that it's not so much people doing poorly or doing a casual game, but it's people INTENTIONALLY not working to win. It's fine to lose, but it's not okay to just decide, "If it's a normal game, I can do whatever I want without repercussions." It makes what was once a light-hearted game into something that makes people upset and willing to complain about it, only to get that awful excuse for bad plays and comments they made without any form of apologetic remorse or attempt to at least fix their mistakes.

EDIT: AHAHAHA I FORGOT TO POST WHAT I DID IN THIS SITUATION; My advice is to explain to them your frustration. If you just get upset with them or rage, that'll either A) Fuel them to further continue their behavior to spite you into reprimanding them or B) Make them feel as if they're not being beneficial to the team even if they ARE trying but just feel as if normals shouldn't matter. If you take the time to explain to them that they should work as a team so that they (( Make sure the focus is in THEIR benefit. Usually they won't care what happens to you, sadly enough. )) can get an easy win, they might put in some further effort. Of course this won't work 100% of the time - and you may not have the ability to explain in some situations where you need to focus on the game and not their performance as much - but it's a good starting point if nothing else.

The worst is when you want to play something new (I've been having fun with Sion support recently) and people take that to mean "we're not playing this game to win, so I'm gonna intentionally feed and blame it on the guy who's currently winning his lane 4/0 but dared to play a champion they didn't think was "viable" (despite having AOE instant ranged slow poke for extremely low mana in lane, damage mitigation with %hp damage, and an AOE cone slow with the potential to be a powerful knock up)

Trylobyte8 votes

A lot of people are misreading the OP, I think. He's not against weird stuff or off-meta picks, he's against people who essentially try to troll the game on purpose while hiding behind 'its k its normals no tryhard lol.' You can play whatever you want, but at least try to win.

Trick1F7 votes

Bump, upvote and comment for the feels.

You hit the nail on the head. I have absolutely no problem throwing meta to the wind in the normals. You can absolutely play whatever you want. But your ATTITUDE and your intentions in game to just purposefully feed or purposefully avoid helping your team to win are to me unacceptable and deserve a punishment.

Kowe The Ewok6 votes

I like to play weird things, but I always try to win. E.g. yesterday I tried Sivir top against Pantheon, got his 2nd tower after 11 minutes because I'ld poke him out of lane and catch his damage with my spellshield. I think weird picks are fine IF YOU HAVE A ROUGH CONCEPT OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

There however is no excuse for throwing a game purposely. Regardless if it's a normal or ranked.

Kesmus5 votes

It's all about striking a balance between your off-meta pick and playing like you're not an idiot.

Lol if you hate people that do that you should see all the dumb stuff I do in normals. Dumber things I've done: Azir and Gnar bot lane, Nasus and Zed bot lane, Lee and Gnar bot lane, almost every single adc as jungle (feral flare OP), Karthus support, Ziggs support, Veigar top, Cassio Supp, AP Shaco supp, AP Rengar, Vlad jung (that was hell do not try it does not work).

But I have fun doing it and I don't troll my own team. Funny messing with the enemy team though. Funniest to do it is with AP Shaco because the noobs get pissed and chase you or throw abilities at you and you just dodge and continue to troll them until they try to kill you and kill themselves. Its fun to run around like an idiot for awhile kiting the entire enemy team while your team pushes it's funny and exciting at the same time.

The meta exists and you may see it as a troll and go against it or to try something seemingly down right stupid but as long as you try its fine. After all its a game where you are meant to have fun and normals you really aren't hurting anybody by losing. Funny thing is it seems like people like to troll their own team. I find it absolutely more enjoyable to troll the enemy team.

No I get the point. but I do some pretty stupid stuff in normals that make my team rage before the game even starts. Because people call you a troll for being different and get mad. My point is its only trolling if you let it seem that way to you. Sadly over half of the people doing stupid stuff like I do are usually people screwing with their own team. So it gives a bad image for people like me.

Rainlein3 votes

There's a difference between playing off-meta picks, being a newbie and not knowing what to do, and intentionally not doing what you know is the best for the situation. And frankly, people are smart enough to tell when you are intentionally trying to troll. That's what op is trying to get at. And even if you just want to test an off-meta build, let your team know beforehand. "I'm trying this for the first time, it might not work, so watch my lane" and people are far less likely to jump down your throat when it doesn't work out.

I posted something similar about coop vs ai games. People care even less about it because "it's just bots". There are players who intentionally skip objectives for their own purposes and drag the game out to a ridiculous length (1 hour bot game anyone?). I hope you remember that the 4 other players on your team are (mostly) humans who did not queue into this game just for your amusement. It's the same mentality as what op is talking about.

OP is... kind of complaining about these. The thing is OP doesn't care what your pick is. He's talking about doing things that aren't smart even when you have a meta pick. Like trying to 1v3 when you're not fed, or not warding.

tl;dr It's totally fine to do off-meta, even terrible builds in normals. That's what normals are for. It's not fine to neglect basic League concepts in normals.

I still stand by my comment... The fact remains normals are meant to test champion picks and builds against human players. Virtually everything works against bots, so unless it's jungle clear times, you can't test anything out on them realistically.

Now, I'm not saying it's okay to just throw the game and troll to lose. However, I don't care what champion is picked for what role, or how they build their champion... It's their right to experiment and try whatever they feel like doing. Period.

If you disagree with that, stick with team builder, bots or ARAM. (Or ranked.) Don't give me this "Meta" bullshit on normals.

Again, there is nothing wrong with trying out a reasonable build. Just last game, I had a Blits who went bot and never build sightstone, or support items. He went straight into lich bane... We lost..badly. But i didn't mind.

I don'T think ANY built is legit. 6boots is obviously trolling, and building full ap on a champ like Garren or Riven who has not a single ap-ratio also is trolling, as everone who raeched lvl 30 should know 100% that it can't even remotly work.

ad-annie, ap-gp and such is a totally diferent thing, those builts have the potential to work, there is some logic behind it.

GranspearZX2 votes

There's a fine line between 'doing what I want' and 'being blatantly stupid'. The first is trying out new item builds to see for yourself how they hold up against other players--within reason. Tanky Sion vs. AD Sion, for instance. The second... is AP Garen.

The 'it's just normals' attitude isn't feasible because Riot kind of forces chat restricted Ranked players to play normals. No reasonable person would say to be a raging tryhard 100% of the time, but 'trying to win' looks different to a player looking to have fun and a Ranked player trying to rack up wins to shake off a chat restriction.

He doesn't. (Although TF with Essence Reaver rush is questionable. You have blue card...) His point is that if you're playing TF ADC, don't intentionally feed, Destiny in the middle of their team, etc. and use the excuse "it's just normals."

DaejinTye1 votes

Bottom line is... Blind pick solo queue is there to test out your picks and builds against other players. That is why it (still) exists.

If you really have no room to respect someone's off pick, then go play team builder.

Hyrum Graff1 votes

I think you're misreading OP's post.

Goumindong1 votes

I don't think he is. The OP says he isn't complaining about off meta picks, just when those people do poorly. Its the same thing really, the OP just gets to claim its different.

Why? Because the OP is suggesting that going Off Meta and off book in general is good only if it works. But nothing works all the time, in order to accept off meta picks and different strategies you have to accept when they fail. Indeed, in order to really accept off meta picks you have to accept that they're probably going to fail more often than meta picks.(after all if they did not they would be meta picks)

Now its possible that his derision for people who do poorly while off-meta, and people who do poorly while on-meta is the same. Unlikely but possible. In that situation though its still more likely that he is the problem. After all all someone on some team has to get beat somewhere.

Goumindong1 votes

You're still suggesting that "doing bad" is some sort of problem.

Hyrum Graff2 votes

"Doing badly" is not a problem.

"Not trying" is a problem.

Goumindong1 votes

Yes, but you(and the OP) define "not trying" as "doing badly"

Hyrum Graff2 votes

I think, though, that when you do badly and justify it with, "Its just a normal," you're implying that you don't care / aren't trying.

If you do badly and say, "Sorry for playing poorly this game, guys," it has a totally different implication.

Goumindong1 votes

Playing poorly is not a bannable offense and should not be. Because really, normals is the space in which to mess around, try out new things, see what you can and cannot do with a champion. And well, this is going to have people lose lane and make bad plays. Eh, it happens, no one lost anything. Hell your next game will be easier.

Maybe instead of getting mad at people who do poorly you should be positive and encouraging towards them. This will get you better results in terms of wins and will lower your blood pressure. When you're negative, you're not helping. Hell they just went 2/18 they're probably on tilt anyway, and there here is another person who, instead of offering support and suggesting to not worry about that is yelling at them such that they have to tell you to stop, that its just a game.

You know what I tell people who feed in a normal game to calm them down and play better? "Don't worry man, its just a normal". If they know they haven't ruined my game then they're much more likely to follow me when the team needs to follow. And they play better because they're less likely to be on tilt. And i've been a positive influence on the game.

Goumindong3 votes

No one has ever been banned for being unskilled. The report option is there so the system knows to decrease the value of your reports/give people a way to vent.

Hyrum Graff1 votes

Does it actually decrease the value of your reports? I was under the impression that it had a small effect on the reported player's MMR, but nothing else (though recently I've heard that this used to be the case and now it has no function).

I've used it occasionally on non-toxic players who are significantly less skilled than I'm normally matched with, to nudge their mmr in the direction it seems to belong, but if it's reducing the efficiency of my toxicity reports, I'll stop.

Goumindong1 votes

I don't know if it actually decreases the value of your reports. It should but not sure.

It doesn't do anything for the other player, does not factor into the tribunal, does not effect their MMR. Nothing. It is essentially a black hole of reports. There only to make you feel good that you did something.

If it actually changed a players MMR it would negate the validity of the MMR system. No way they're doing something like that again.

Magma Lux Mid3 votes

That used to be used as simply a data collection. Now it's just thrown out and used to allow people to vent frustration. You don't get banned for it. In fact, it's probably promptly deleted as soon as you select it.
