I cant dodge in promos

This is why you fail.

Really. Dodging isn't the end of the world.

It saves you a lot of time, doesn't trash your MMR (the actual number used to determine who you are playing with and against) and ultimately LP doesn't matter, but you will still lose less LP than if you were to play a lost match.

I believe that he is saying that, if you dodge in promos, you will instantly fail your promos.

Perhaps that's what OP meant, but what's so bad about it in the first place?

What happens for losing a promo:

  • you gain absolutely nothing positive
  • you lose ELO/MMR which in turn gives you even worse teammates than before and lowers your future LP gains.
  • you lose a significant amount of LP
  • you waste time playing ultimately pointless matches

What happens for dodging a promo:

  • you gain absolutely nothing positive
  • you don't lose any ELO/MMR
  • you lose a fraction of your current LP
  • you put yourself on a queue "cooldown", but you are completely free to do whatever the hell you want with your time.

The joke is that try-harding a promo, when portents both in the sky and on the earth indicate you will lose anyway, is plain stupid.

OP was lucky others dodged, but if they haven't, he'd lose LP, MMR, time and end up stressed for no meaningful reason.

Well, let me put things in a slightly different way.

Lets say you win your first Promo match. Now you have two games to win another match, and you win your series. Lets say you have a 50% winrate. Your chance of winning this series lies somewhere between 100% and 50% (I cannot remember the specific equation for such a thing, but this will do). I

If the team you get on your second promo match looks bad, and you dodge, you now have a 0% chance of winning your series. If you play it out with a bad team, you still have a chance (albeit slim, like, 20% according to that winrate). 20%>0%.

You lose the second game. Now your chance to win (according to your winrate) is 50%. You get another bad team. If you dodge, you instantly get a 0% chance of winning your promos. If you play it out, you still have a chance to win. It happened to me in my Silver 1 promo; we were losing, but the enemy Zac ragequit and they FF'd as we started to take back the game. So, X% > 0%.

Finally, if you lose your promos, I think you get set back to the same location as if you dodged your promos. So, while dodging in your promos gives you a 0% change to win, playing them all out gives you some chance to win (and not necessarily insignificant chance either; 20-30% is decent in some cases).

Your chance of winning this series lies somewhere between 100% and 50%

Probability is a funny thing.

On one hand you are running only a 25% chance to lose a promo if you already have a win, but on the other the chances don't actually stack.

For example getting on a 10-game losing or winning streak has a statistical chance of happening of 0,098%. Saying it's a rare occurrence would be plain stupid, though.

If the team you get on your second promo match looks bad, and you dodge, you now have a 0% chance of winning your series.

It's still 50%, since dodging a second match puts you at 1-1.

If you play it out with a bad team, you still have a chance (albeit slim, like, 20% according to that winrate). 20%>0%.

You are weighting odds against possible gains and losses.

If you lose you will be forced to play an additional match to get back into promos on top of having your ranking score(MMR/ELO) lowered.

Finally, if you lose your promos, I think you get set back to the same location as if you dodged your promos.

Only if you lose, not intentionally opt out of it.

Losing a promo puts you in a much worse position. You can end up anywhere from 50 to 90 LP depending on the order of losing and winning, plus some RNG, because I noticed LP changes can greatly vary in promo. Like once I ended up at 60 LP after going 0-2 despite the fact I wasn't losing more than 15 LP merely 3 games before promo.

Simply dodging it will never put you below 80LP or 87LP, if you haven't dodged before promo on that day or 94 LP, if you dodged two promo games on different days.

No. Dodging any match in your promos cancels your series. Like, you fail to lock in. Once. Then your entire promos are over and you have to start all over again. It does not count as a loss, it is the complete termination of your promos. If you dodge your first game, that's it. Series over. Now to have to re qualify for your promos. This is why you don't dodge in your promos.

Since when?

Actually, it appears I am mistaken. I heard that dodging during your promos is an immediate series cancellation, but I guess according to https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201751844-Queue-Dodging, it simply counts as a loss. The series will end if it is the second loss, but it doesn't necessarily end your series.

I apologize for arguing my point based on a faulty assumption.

I would still argue that it is better to play each game out instead of instantly taking the loss, but I value my time differently and have different ideals about ranked. You make some very good points, and honestly, this discussion has enlightened me about promotion series. Thank you good madam or sir or attack helicopter.

I guess this may be why many people make such a big deal of dodging. They take something somebody somewhere said at face value, instead of double checking themselves.

I apologize for arguing my point based on a faulty assumption.

Aw, you shouldn't have.

Though I appreciate you looked for a source and avowed being incorrect.

Thank you good madam or sir or attack helicopter.
