Mobility is really hard to balance, but it is really fun to play with.

I think That is the main reason new champions with mobility/mobility type spells have been released because it may pose trouble for balance because usually mobility is either hit or miss, meaning it could be really OP or just un-needed. Having mobility on a champion will make that champion more fun, it's just a fact. But at the same time, it can be infuriating to play against or just funny to look at. Bard is a case of a Funny mobility spell that can be used really well but is really Balanced. LB is a case of frustrating mobility.

Since everyone is having mixed feelings about Ekko I think I should give my opinion on that champion right now too. Every single ability he has, can be dodged with ease, but it takes focus to do so. His ult will only hit you if you didn't pay attention to his clone or you were cc'd for 3+ seconds (thanks morgana!) His E is a short dash with a blink built in, but his blink is definitely short range, Think like an annie W. Ekko's W does have amazing uses but it has a wind up time of around 3 seconds and the effect goes away shortly after it lands if the stun doesn't proc. Overall, I think he's in a good spot because he is an assassin, and he will be able to do a lot of damage to you because of this fact. He's squishy enough to die and it get's easier to do so when you cc him. His ult can be annoying to play around and I know we all know this.

Assassins will burst, and this is a fact. But complaining about that fact on the boards will get you nowhere. Ekko's damage isn't unbelievable nor is it unavoidable.

Ekkos damage isn't unbelievable??

im sorry but in the history of league of legends NO one, has had a 1.3 ap ratio on any spell.

Phife2 votes

Ekko doesn't have much mobility for an assassin, he has a vayne tumble on a 12s~ CD. and his ult is more of an escape than mobility.

Durzaka1 votes

Have you actually used his E?

Either I dont understand how dashes work, or his is coded different.

Can Vayne tumble through any walls? Because I dont believe she can clear a single wall in the game. Ekko's dash on his E is only 25 units longer and he can clear EVERY single wall in the entire game that can be realistically cleared (IE anything that doesnt require Zac, Reksai, Trist, or Corki length jumps).

Phife1 votes

I mean, its identical to vaynes tumble, but it's definately coded differently or maybe that 25 extra units allows him to fly through walls...

not to say that he isn't overtuned, but:

nunu's ult: MAGIC DAMAGE: 625 / 875 / 1125 (+ 250% AP) fiddlestick's ult: TOTAL MAGIC DAMAGE: 625 / 1125 / 1625 (+ 225% AP) syndra: MAXIMUM DAMAGE (7 SPHERES): 630 / 975 / 1260 (+ 140% AP)

possibly others that I can't remember off the top of my head, too

Syndra will realistically never get a 7 sphere ult. Most of the time it's 5 in a best case scenario, you won't have the CDR to realistically get more unless the enemy stands there while you set up and asks you to do it. Then her fucking E doesn't work because Rito chose so and she dies anyway.

Durzaka2 votes

6 is very realistic though. And that is only 10% less, but it is targeted and cant be missed.

You have to be kidding.

Nunu's ult is so easy to avoid it's laughable. You literally have to be in it at the end for it to do great damage and even Cho'Gath can walk out of it in that time.

Fiddlesticks ult is his only burst and he has to channel it first, so it can be stopped pretty easy. Even if he gets it off, you can just run from it easy enough.

Syndra's ult will delete anyone from the game, but it only targets one person. Ekko's can wipe a whole team.

Xerath hitting all three shots: 900 + 1.29 AP Irelia hitting four blades: 640 + 2.0 AP + 2.4 bonus AD (noone builds her AP, but still...potential, as they say in CLG). Katarina: 750 + 2.5 AP + 3.75 bonus AD Annie: 2225 + 9.8 AP (but who stands next to Tibbers for 45 seconds?) Rumble: 1200 + 1.5 AP Brand: 1050 + 1.5 AP

There are quite a few ults that can potentially hit for a metric sh*tton of damage, after all.

Nunu has a 250% AP ratio on his ultimate.

Phife6 votes

Ekko doesn't have to charge his ult for 3 seconds without getting interrupted.

IcyPepper4 votes

Nunu doesn't have a trail behind his movement with a four second delay that telegraphs the exact spot he'll ult.

Phife2 votes

Im not saying it doesn't have counter play. But its an aoe that deals MASSIVE damage instantly.

Dont forget it heals you at the same time for a flat # + % of damage taken (also scales with AP)

IcyPepper4 votes

There's more to a spell than damage, and some parts are allowed to be strong when there's weaknesses.

Nunu can aim his ult, he can hide in a bush and ult, and it deals more damage. At the cost of the charge time (making it great at dragon or Baron, where people would be forced off of it or get tunnel vision and surprised bursted).

Ekko cannot aim his ult, he has to position four seconds ahead of time in order to use it the exact way he wants. HIs opponents can see the ghost as well, making this more difficult if the opponent is good at positioning (which is why he's decent against Leblanc, those players get tunnel vision but it's still a skill match-up). It has great burst, and heals him a bit, and is instant. The price is it being telegraphed to everyone ahead of time, and if he uses it like an idiot in a team fight, it puts him in melee range of everyone.

I admit it's AP ratio could be tuned down a bit, it already heals him and makes him great in a 1v1 if he's smart enough to play two steps ahead. I don't care if Ekko is OP or UP, I'm going to do my damn well best to learn how to counter him first, spread some tips, then maybe ask for some nerfs or whatnot.

Phife1 votes

Oh, im not complaining. I love playing him vs him. Its super easy to see the bad Ekkos vs the Good ones.

Im just saying there are some major flaws with his kit, One of them being its super overloaded.

He has burst, sustain damage, executes, heals, aoe, shield, stun, slows, a dash (his E active) and and a gap closer his enhanced E.

IcyPepper1 votes

Eh, his E isn't that bad. It's basically a Vayne tumble that turns into an Ezreal E if he uses it offensively.

I feel like they should remove the W passive and lower the cooldown on his actual passive to exemplify the whole "assassin who works for it" ideal instead of having an execute.

Phife2 votes

I dont mind his E, i think its the most healthiest part about his kit. But his W passive is rediculous, add that passive with his actual passive and he hits for over 1k with just those.

IcyPepper1 votes

I kind of agree. I love how I heard there was going to be a utility assassin who has to work for it, but then I see Ekko players building full AP and no AS because they can just spam their abilities then E for the lichbane luden's single hit proc.

I jungle with him, with a mix of AS and AP, and I think that's what Riot was going for. Since I can't spam spells too much for clears, I do have to invest in attack speed, so my ganks require some work beyond just pressing buttons and it really does feel like an outplay or a victory if I'm successful. It's certainly less bullshit than spamming spells then just going OHKO on someone.

Phife1 votes

Well, it'd be nice if he was the utility assassin we all wanted but, I building full ap is currently the only REAL way to play him since he has an overall 3.0 ap ratio! on his spells.

But thats not counting his execute damage W.

Durzaka1 votes

The thing is, his E ISNT like Vaynes tumble. He can clear every wall in the game with his E dash. That gives his E a shit ton more mobility than Vaynes tumble.

Phife1 votes

Im not sure why it does that but Its the same as vaynes tumble.

IcyPepper1 votes

True...

I'd say it's as mobile as Ezreal's E, but with a laning range of Vayne's tumble if used purely defensively. Is that fair enough?

Ekkos damage isn't unbelievable??

im sorry but in the history of league of legends NO one, has had a 1.3 ap ratio on any spell.

Veigar's old R had a 1.2 AP ratio and a .8 enemy AP ratio, Brand's R has up to a 1.5 AP ratio on a single target, Fiddlesticks W has a 2.25 AP ratio (and so does his ult, and his E has up to a 1.35 AP ratio single target), Viktor's R has up to a 1.95 AP ratio, Nasus R used to have a 1% max hp damage for 1 AP (sure it was a bug, but you did say NO ONE in the history of league), and Katarina's R has a 2.5 AP ratio.

So no, multiple champions have had higher than 1.3 AP ratios on a single spell, though generally there are ways to interrupt or try to avoid the damage. The same is true of Ekko, seeing as he shows exactly where his time clone is and thus shows you exactly where his ult will appear anytime you have vision of him.

Neo Cyrus2 votes

Don't forget it's AoE that can easily hit 5, and despite that does more than other single target assassins would do in two ults, not to mention heals him. Two Akali ults would be 500 + 1.0 single target and leaves you with just Twilight Shroud as your only hope to escape, two Diana ults would be 440 + 1.2 single target and leaves you completely trapped with no escape. Good job Rito, you really thought this one out, just like Zed. Such brilliance.

I have no problem with champions having high mobility in the game. The problem is that the same champions usually have stupidly high damage to go with it. The more mobile a champion is, the lower risk they have of being countered. So they should do reduced damage the more mobile they are.

LB is a perfect example. She can use her mobility to poke people down all day and get away with minimal damage in the trade. So she should NEVER be able to 100-0 anyone. She should be able to 50-0 someone, but not all of their health. You can't let a champion have their cake and eat it too.

Highly mobile champs should have a hit and run style where they wear down their opponent then kill them.

KazaLyn Shao2 votes

Why does he need high mobility, high burst, AND hard CC? I don't get it. Mobility creep is bad enough, but adding a stun to the mix is just plain stupid. We already have to pick hard CC tanks just to counter all the high mobility champs Riot keeps releasing. Now we have to deal with high mobility champs that have their own hard CC. What a joke.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

It is a little high right now, though. With as much utility as Ekko has, he's not supposed to be running around killing people 100-0. The intent is for him to either whittle down his opponent first, or go in once his team has done that for him. His current damage and scaling (specifically on his passive and maybe Q) is a bit higher than it should be. Slight tweaks to these should put him in a good spot.

Drunk Rummate1 votes

I think immobility is far more difficult to balance than mobility is.

You can assume a mobile champion dodges the majority of skillshots and is capable of engaging on their opponent, meaning you don't have to give them free natural resistances or free extra stats/cc to deal with that. And as soon as you start giving free stats then champions start to become very binary with extremely hard counters or they function as an extremely hard counter.
