Yasuo's Windwall now only last 1 second
but the cooldown is halved
Is Yasuo now stronger or weaker?
but the cooldown is halved
Is Yasuo now stronger or weaker?
Weaker as the use cases go down. Windwall is also used to deny ranged characters from farming under tower along with zoning ranged dps out of teamfights. This forces the opponent to reposition (possibly sub-optimally) or to be stagnant in dps.
Heck, considering how oppressive this ability is, it could use the change. On the other hand, I also hate the shit out of ranged characters, so fuck them and increase the duration on windwall. Muahahahaha
Seems situational, however:
Caits ult > wind wall > wind wall do its job > & disappears > Yasuo's next wind wall will be up in less time.
Seems all about timing and seems a buff to me. I'll go with buff, certainly.
I call it a nerf.
You forgot, after her ultimate was done, a Braum uses his ultimate to allow Cait to come in, do the damage and stun for more damage until you dead.
Depends...
Significantly weaker. He wouldn't be able to shut out half the team for a kill like that, he'd just dodge some skillshots.
ALOT weaker, yasuo's wind wall used to prevent the entire ranged portion of the enemy team from auto-attacking for a very long period of time. Now it's mainly for blocking spells
Its really 50/50 In the laning faze Yasuo becomes terrifying, Since he is usually played mid lane he is most often put up against AP champs. This means Yasuo can now block nearly all of their skill shots with good timing. Champions like Vel'Koz would be demolished as Yasuo can now just Wind wall every Q he sends at him. However His Team fighting would not be as great, Yasuo's wind wall can be used to zone the enemy adc out completely blocking all of their AA's Either forcing them to enter the center of a fight allowing the melee champs to get at them. Or watch as their team gets torn apart by the enemy adc. Since his wind wall is only 1 second he can no longer do this. However if you take into account his early lane faze he would probably be crazy fed by the time fights actually started. So in my opinion its a buff
Nerf, really. Yeah, it'll be up more often but being halved just means Max rank CD is now at 9 instead of 18 and considering how much damage can be thrown at you for more than 1 second, it doesn't seem that good compared to how it is right now.
Plus, you can block some harass while you go for some of that riskier CS wih how it is right now.
I think it's balanced and rises his skillcap. I mean, Yasuo currently put hi wall before teamfights to block projectiles without thinking. With this change, Yasuo would need alot more reflexes, but with more benefits if played well.
So it's a buff for good Yasuo players, and a nerf to those who don't play him well
You're asking the wrong question. In the hands of most players, and even possibly in most situations it would be a nerf, but for top level players having its cooldown halved could be potentially huge. I would honestly be for this change because I feel windwall should be more of a one time utility spell rather than a team zoning mechanic BUT I'm not sure if that opinion is actually correct. This would completely go with Riot's "counterplay" design philosophy and would give Yasuo a much smaller window on which to act.
I think that whether or not this is a nerf or a buff it adds more opportunities for counterplay, which Rito is all for.

Perhaps I did ask the wrong question, or perhaps this question was a something akin to a sonar ping
stop crying about yasuo and learn to play against him instead
That wasnt the point of this thread.
You're an angsty Yasuo player,
Buff but he wouldn't be able to early game farm safely behind his wall vs ranged as he does now.
A buff if he's against burst, nerf if he's against constant damage. If this is a proposed change, I would be against it as an Ahri/Lux main.
Weaker, remember when they nerfed Annie's E to reduce duration and cd by half?
huge buff in lane because now yasuo gets to block poke far more often and would virtually autowin lanes against champions who spam one ability as their lane presence like ziggs/ezreal/liss and maybe even zed but it would be a huge nerf lategame not being able to shut out damage output from adcs and such for a reasonable time period like he does now
Hard nerf
"Dear Riot, I don't know how to disengage from a team fight for 4 seconds, or how to get Yasuo to use his Wind Wall too early."
Again, not the point of this thread,
Another angsty Yasuo player,
What is the point of a thread that suggests nerfing a defensive spell's duration?
No, don't point at that CD buff. Yasuo doesn't build CDR, so you're still leaving a 9-second pause per wall after it's at max rank. This doesn't do anything to Yasuo blocking ultimates with well-timed walls. All it does is reduce his ability to provide cover in a team fight, which is one of his two team fight contributions (the other being knockups).
And actually, I'm a snarky Brand player.
Your reading comprehension skills make me sad :(
I get bored of watching people complain about something that isn't as overpowered as they think it is, so I like to mock them in my spare time.
It's amusing, because the points I make are about as legitimate as theirs--as legitimate as a bastard child, that is.
This man in no way complained. Again, your reading comprehension skills make me sad. Or you are trolling. Either way, no need to continue conversing with you.
There never was a reason for you to converse with me in the first place.
Not that i expect you to respond, but he posted a thread suggesting a straight nerf to a champion, without any context or justification to it. He masked it with the unspoken "Please leave your opinions," but it's still pretty much asking for controversy over a nerf idea.
He specifically did not make a complaint, no. He just made a thread implying that he wants Yasuo nerfed, without voicing a reason--as that would be a complaint--for why he would suggest it.
Thank you, captain anal-retentive semantics.
Wasn't trying to. All I said was that your reading comprehension skills made me sad. Not sure where you got the invite to converse (if that is what you call whatever you were doing). His other post has nothing to do with this post. He asked if a halved CD shield that lasted a shorter time would make him stronger or weaker. Was not calling for anything, nor was he implying anything. He didn't even state his opinion in the original post, nor do I see anything describing his opinion before you made your comment that had nothing to do with the topic at hand.
I know what he wrote, and I responded based upon what was implied.
Why would he ask a question about this suggestion? What would be the reason for his curiosity?
The "invite to converse" as you put it was "Does this make Yasuo stronger or weaker?"
He did not state his opinion, and I made an assumption based on the fact that I see daily threads on the forums complaining about every goddamn aspect of this game, and many of them are masked almost exactly like this. I don't take things at face value.
If my assumption is wrong, the original poster of the thread can tell me that much. Not you.
I'm confused what you are even arguing here anymore lol. Your first sentence is an assumption, that has no basis from the OP, your second point is just mind blowing. I can't possible see why someone would ask a question lol....Third point makes no sense. You talk about conversing with me, then the OP. Not sure what is going in your head bud. Lol, you made an assumption that OP asked a question based on the fact that others complain about the game, makes sense lol. I thought I wanted to stop with this thread, but now I want to keep going because you are making me laugh :D
The only "argument" is that you're telling me--which I already know--that I've made an assumption of the OP.
The second point is a rhetorical set of questions, pointing out that there has to be a reason he's asking this question. Maybe it's to gauge the average person's reaction. Maybe it's because they actually want the nerf. Do you know? Do I know? No. I have my limited perspective, and my assumptions thereof, and my response due to that information.
I wasn't "invited" to converse with you, you decided to begin conversing with me. The initializing of it was my response to the OP. Then you responded to me. I don't usually leave people talking to themselves.
What's "going on in my head" is a shit-ton of multitasking.
Thank you for the very obvious analysis of my assumption. Maybe you can also point out that water is wet, fire is hot, and 2+2=4.
I'm glad I'm providing entertainment. Despite whatever you might be reading into my tone, it's mildly entertaining to talk with someone who doesn't read implications in anything ever.
Buff to me, nerf that makes him unplayable to all the retards that want freelo
Probably it's a nerf.
Maybe a buff in laning phase against some champions.
In teamfights, half W cooldown is still only a one per fight ability.
I think most people are saying it would make him slightly weaker overall, but raise his skill cap and make him significantly less toxic
Sounds like it would be a good change
I get tired of people using "Toxic" to describe Wind Wall.
What's the toxic element? The fact that it lasts about as long as the average shielding spell? The fact that it negates projectiles and only projectiles, but not AoEs, dashes or non-projectiles? The fact that some ultimates are ranged projectiles, and thus countered by it (never mind that Ziggs, Xerath and Nautilus bypass it)?
Or is it the fact that an offensive-focused champion who has a strong mid-game has it?
For fuck's sake, people in this community can't stop giving Riot shit when they make a champion that's similar to existing champions (never mind that they have a different playstyle), and then they design one melee champion who has a new mechanic on all of his ability slots, and the community can't stop calling it overpowered, toxic, broken, etc., and they can't even use those terms in their proper context, let alone actually explain what's wrong with him.
"He does too much!"
Too much what? He's too mobile? He's a little more irritating than Riven when he has half a dozen minion targets, not nearly so bad otherwise. Too much damage? He's a melee fighter based on offense rather than defense, so he's supposed to deal damage. Too much defense? He has an instantaneous shield that can block a tiny bit of burst, and a wall that can block less than half the spells and auto attacks in existence.

Yes, being able to block EVERY projectile for 4 seconds is extremely toxic At least Braum is forced to take the effect and damage (albeit reduced), Yasuo just "nope" it. The ability doesn't even require skill or timing to use it neither. Just put it up during a team fight, you're bound to block a TON without even trying.

Because we've clearly never had a champion with the ability to negate something. Like Kayle, Morgana, Olaf, Alistar, Poppy, Jax, Fizz, Vladimir, Zed, Master Yi...

If the enemy team is mentally damaged enough so that they'll fire projectiles at a wind wall. And at that point, how have you not already blown up their nexus?

unless everyone clearly says poppy, fizz, vlad, zed, yi are toxic at least kayle, olaf, and alistar have it on their ult.
First of all, the only people I've seen calling Zed, Fizz and Yi toxic are people who main mages or marksmen, who will swear on their mothers and fathers that they watched a tank with 4000 HP and over 300 resistance die in less than three seconds to them, but conveniently do not have video evidence and have no response to being shown the math proving that it's impossible for that to happen.
Second, while Poppy is up for a rework and Vladimir is being inspected for more of the same, the point was that we've had abilities that negate other abilities ever since the game began.
Kayle negates damage. Morgana negates CC. Olaf negates CC. Alistar breaks CC and negates 70% of damage. Poppy negates execution damage, and 4/5 of your team. Jax negates basic attacks. Fizz, Vlad, Zed and Yi (as well as Maokai, Lissandra and a couple others) have untargetability, a short-duration negation of most incoming spells.
You're going to have to do a lot better than saying, "It negates things!" Negation is an aspect of counter-play. You got negated, you got counter-played.

Yes, most of those effects have been acknowledge to be pretty toxic by Riot, which is why they nerfed the crud out of most of them
Tho those are SLIGHTLY different, want to know the difference?
Those only stop you from attacking 1 champion, it negates/clear the effects on a Single Champion
Yasuo puts up a wall that blocks it for everyone, your entire team is 100% immune to everything of the enemy projectiles for 4 seconds. 100% immune to the damage, to the cc, to the effects, everything.
You then have 2 choices, as the enemy team
1 - Accept it and wait 4 MASSIVE SECONDS, which in this game team fights tend to end after 4 seconds. During these 4 seconds the enemy team is still fully allowed to use all their projectiles on your team
2 - Go thru the wall, where a melee specialist is waiting. Oh and this is adding in another penalty, in that even if you get thru the wall to gun off your projectiles, did your team try to as well, or did you just more or less go in alone.
There is VERY LITTLE skill required to throw up a wind wall at the start of the fight, so don't act like it is an LCS PRO ONLY thing to do it. It lasts long enough that if you do it after the engage it will last thru the entire important part of the fight. As you listed those champions they all comparably limited.
Is Yasuo Weak? Is Yasuo Strong? Does it matter? No! This is not a discussion about Yasuo overall as a champion Buff him, Make his passive 10x more Crit chance! I don't care, this is not a thread about Yasuo as a whole.
This is a thread about Wind Wall, a very low skill ability that is insanely overly effective. My suggestion to reduce the duration by reduce the cooldown would actually make it require skill and timing to use it properly.
tl;dr - Windwall as an ability is currently poorly balanced, how it affects Yasuo as a champion is debatable. I don't care to nerf Yasuo personally, but I do feel Windwall cannot remain in its current state.
Actually, most of those effects--the effects, not the champions--have been left alone for most of their existence. Other aspects of the champion have taken nerfs and been changed, but that's something that happens to every champion in the game.
As for Yasuo protecting his entire team, this implies (1) that Yasuo is front-lining for his team, when he doesn't do so well unless he follows after a good initiator, (2) that every single spell coming from the other team is a projectile, when in fact half of the ranged spells in League are non-projectiles, AoEs and gap closers, and (3) that nobody steps to the left or right of the wall.
I didn't say it takes skill to place Wind Wall at the start of a fight, and I could not give a damn about LCS.
But do you know what does take skill? Understanding how to bypass it, and immediately using that knowledge. Because it's a lot smarter to actively recognize what's happening in a fight and react accordingly, than it is to jump onto a forum and tell Riot that this thing they made for the game is doing what they expected it to do.

Moving around it is not always an option, depending on the location of the fight or the target you must bring down. He doesn't need to be front lining, just between the targets that matter and you. So even if he was standing near the enemies backline it is already doing the effect.
and again you assume that I personally am unable to counter it. Instead the reality is that I am smart enough to know how to actively counter it, while ALSO RECOGNIZING that it is an ability that is excessive in its current form.
Also plenty of those abilities have been nerfed directly.
Black Shield has had duration reduced and cooldown increased Intervention has had duration reduced and cooldown increased
Tho unless you want to argue that it is better to leave the one ability of the champion strong, and instead nerf everything else? Wouldn't it better to rebalance the one problematic ability instead and strength the champion in other ways?
His Wind Wall isn't even his main shtick nor his only defense

If you ever put yourself in a position where Yasuo's Wind Wall negates you, you put yourself there. Same story if you put yourself in a situation where Darius can E-Q-R gib you. Same story if you put yourself in a duel with Mordekaiser around your own minions. Same story if you put yourself in a fight with someone who can turn the tables, and you give them the chance to win.
and again you assume that I personally am unable to counter it. Instead the reality is that I am smart enough to know how to actively counter it, while ALSO RECOGNIZING that it is an ability that is excessive in its current form.
Yes, I assume that, because you're the one writing a forum thread about Wind Wall, and telling me that there's absolutely nothing I could do against it. Or, more accurately, giving me your two cents worth of scenarios, "Accept the 4 second delay and take their fire, or face-tank their Yasuo."
What if I'm Shyvana, and I say "Fuck your Wind Wall, I'm a dragon"? What if I'm Jax, and I play lamp-post bongos on Yasuo's face? What if I'm also a melee specialist, but I'm able to beat Yasuo?
What if I'm Xerath, Brand, Cassiopeia, Karthus, any mage with spells that ignore Wind Wall?
What if I'm Lee Sin, and I ward-W-Q-R-Q to shove Yasuo through his wall into my team?
What if I devise a few hundred counter-strategies to this one spell? I bet money you'll still call it toxic, because it makes me think about doing something more complex than pressing W.
Also plenty of those abilities have been nerfed directly.
Black Shield has had duration reduced and cooldown increased Intervention has had duration reduced and cooldown increased
The only time those spells had their durations nerfed was in 2010
You know, back when Riot was still weaning balance off of DotA principles.
Tho unless you want to argue that it is better to leave the one ability of the champion strong, and instead nerf everything else? Wouldn't it better to rebalance the one problematic ability instead and strength the champion in other ways?
His Wind Wall isn't even his main shtick nor his only defense
Not that you'd give a damn, but his innate defenses are garbage. To justify his Flow shield, he has very low HP. And his only other "defense" is a mobility tool, which is great for avoiding linear, stop-on-first-target skill shots and tiny AoEs, but doesn't help against much else.
Whenever someone talks about Yasuo, they always focus on one spell, and they call every aspect of it broken.
"OMG, his passive does two things, and it's the only Crit double in the game!" "Wait, his Q gets CD from AS, and it can crit, AND it's AoE?" "Wind wall keeps cock-blocking me! ragerant" "Why does his E have no cooldown?" "Yasuo used his R off of [insert champion's knockback/knockup/fling/grab], isn't that broken?"
And then you have the guy who just calls the whole thing overloaded because, apparently, the complexity of synergistic mechanics is too much to comprehend as balanced.
Yasuo is, more or less, the second Riven. Riot attempts a new melee carry with several alternate mechanics that haven't been used before, plus a couple new ones, and people will not ever call it fair, because the community's standards for "fair" would imply a game where everyone is the same champion with the same skills, and no skills can negate each other.
But, please, continue. Wind wall is strong because it does exactly what Riot planned for it to do--negate incoming projectiles for a few seconds--and there are some champions who rely on projectiles. Insert the lamentations of their women.

These replies are starting to get pretty long~
Those aren't nearly same stories tho, but I think I would need to make like a picture to prove my point.
Your examples of Shyvana, Jax and Melee Specialist fall pretty clearly into my 2nd option category of "Go thru the wall", and again did your team go with you? Jax and Shyvana are plenty strong characters, they might be able to 1vs1 the Yasuo. However can they more or less 1vs5 the enemy team? Your team would help you but they are waiting for the wind wall to drop before they can support you properly with projectiles. Well I suppose the other melee specialist would likely follow you, but the scenario is quite similar. Perhaps it would not be a 1vs5, but either way part of your team is still locked off from the battle. Even if its Partially like Xerath not being able to use his stun or Brand holding his stun and his ultimate or your ADC being unable to properly attack. I know, I know - they are moving around the wall and such or waiting or whatever counter they felt was the best at the time. During those precious seconds tho, they are more or less operating at extremely reduced efficiency and really... That is all you need to decide a team fight in League of Legends, very few precious seconds of the enemy team being unable to perform efficiently.
This is what a 4 seconds Wind Wall provides
It's not that I don't care about Yasuo's flow shield, it actually used to be pretty strong before they gutted it. They gutted it because he needed to be reduced in many aspects but they weren't really sure how. So instead of hitting him where he needs it, while also improving his counter play, mechanics, skill to play, timing, and oh so many other. They hit him in many places he didn't need to be hit. So instead of a cool and strong champion, we currently have an extremely weak champion with bad mechanics who absolutely stomps low tiers if the person knows how to play him. Is pretty garbage in upper tiers. Has terrible win ratio so people don't want him on his team. Has broken mechanics, so people don't want him on the enemy team.
If he needs survivability, buff his Flow Shield, Give him more health
Windwall is an awesome mechanic, it is one that I fully support and I felt needed to exist in LoL for a long while. I just don't support it in its current state, as a 4 second brainless wall of denial.
Braum is the mechanic done correctly 100% negates the first hit, then catches the rest with his face. Suffering full effects and reduced damage for an extended period (ironically even at its longest period, the duration is still shorter than Wind Wall)
Yasuo is the mechanic done poorly, 4 seconds of fire and forget 100% negation
Reducing the duration to 1 second and heavily reducing the cooldown forces Yasuo to be reactive to abilities, the shorter cooldown also rewards him and even opens up avenues for buffs to Yasuo, You could make it so that blocking abilities with Wind Wall restore's flow
So, it's not the fact that Wind Wall does exactly what it should.
It's the fact that Wind Wall is easier than Unbreakable. Never mind that, when a mechanic is easier to use, it's also easier to bypass, you just don't like it being easy to use.
lel so what if they are mage/marksman main? you are just bot main you need not math or video to say you can't do anything when master Yi press Q or fiora press R. You need not math to say you are frustrated when fizz dodge every single skillshot. Toxic need not math.
ok poppy is up for a rework, but the point is everyone call her ult toxic. Same goes for vlad
and I don't understand why you put alistar negates 70% damage. I bought armor, armor negates some damages, counterplayed ??
"It negates (almost every)thing" is the correct sentence. Projectile is the most common in league, in form of damage and CC, fully negate them. And his wall isn't self-defense, it can be used as team defense. Yasuo bring too much to the table. his kit is one of the most overloaded in LoL
lel so what if they are mage/marksman main? you are just bot main
Are you talking about my recent match history being VS AI, or bot lane?
Because the latter is not true, and the former has no real bearing on my understanding of the game. Never mind that telling me my recent match history is vs AI is the equivalent of "1v1 me on Rift" in proving anything; it does jack shit.
If you want to go ahead and call me an unskilled player, be my guest. I don't claim to be the best, I just claim to be less of an idiot than the average player. And guys like you set the bar on the floor of Satan's wine cellar.

No, you don't need math to whine.
Meanwhile, the point wasn't the math, but the fact that people exactly like you love to exaggerate when you complain about how something is designed.
Then, when told that your exaggeration can't happen and you're whining is pathetic, you pretend that you're above any form of debate.
My initial point with the statement was that this is a mechanic that has existed literally longer than League of Legends has. You can call it toxic over and over, but it bears no weight when all the players better than you simply learn to play around it instead.
"It's toxic because it does something I don't like!" That's basically your mindset.
"It negates (almost every)thing" is the correct sentence. Projectile is the most common in league, in form of damage and CC, fully negate them. And his wall isn't self-defense, it can be used as team defense. Yasuo bring too much to the table. his kit is one of the most overloaded in LoL
Projectile is not the most common thing in League, actually. It's about 50/50 when just taking into account the ranged spells, let alone the "melee" spells that exist. But what do I know? I just looked at every single spell in League of Legends and tallied up which ones are ranged, and then which ones of those are blocked by Wind Wall.
And what exactly constitutes an overloaded kit? The fact that it does things? You're going to have to actually bring up a comparison to another, similar champion to explain that, unless you just want to keep filibuster-bullshitting me.
A huge nerf teamwise because Windwall is effective only to give the team some breath or to give a chance to block a fatal projectile. Making it one second duration halves its purposes and gimps the reason why Yasuo only has one steroid and the his only form of damage comes with his Q.
Weaker late game for sure. Even if somehow it's better for him early game this is a gigantic loss of teamfight presence for Yasuo.
buff for early laning phase ( like he fucking needed that! fml) , nerf for teamfights / lategame but by that point , it doesn't matter since all he needs to do is delete thosue champs before wall usage even becomes a factor so...ya...
think ill just be q dodging/permabanning yasuo from now on...
