Riot confuses me

I know Warwick Galio were full VGU's but why aren't these held as the standard for any type of champion rework? They are well made, not broken and are fair to play against in my opinion. It seems that class updates either make champions more of a headache than they were previously or make them worse. Sejuani obviously benefitted greatly from the class update

Maokai isn't even being played as a tank anymore

Zac was dunked into the trash can

I know you guys wanted to give Zac players more opportunity to express their skill on the champ but let's be real, this iteration of Zac seems to be much worse than pre rework Zac. (did he really even need a kit overhaul in the first place?) I still feel like Zac's spot would have been better spent on someone like Malphite who feels like just a walking ultimate.

With that being said I'm still looking for the Evelynn and Urgot reworks because you guys do well on VGU's

Trust me, those of us who played mages are still felling the pain after the mage "update".

Galio received a much needed nerf soon after rework.

Full VGUs are given more time and attention that class updates, and are usually focused on champions who are very much outdated and don't really fulfill their theme (or have no theme) well.

Class updates are meant to take champions that could use smaller scope changes to make them more diverse. This doesn't always work, in fact it can bring to light what doesn't work in their kit that may require a full VGU (Mordekaiser, Malz, Akali, Shaco) but the intention is to bring smaller changes that can help diversify a group of champions and better identify the class without needing to spend as much time or resources.

I see, in that case would it be better if Riot stopped these "Class Updates" and took their time by doing them patch by patch like with the Shyvana and Heimerdinger changes?

In the future they might as technology advances, but class updates aren't just about champions, but also item updates of those classes. It's normally better to do a bunch of these changes in one big patch than constantly trying to introduce new changes patch after patch.

It saves more time to throw it out there all at once than one at a time.

Plus the Shyvana, Heimer, and Alistar updates aren't as intensive as class updates. While class updates don't really get new models, they do get new or recycled animations for new abilities on their models. This is something most small updates lack.
