Secrets of the ELO:

Hi, our name is MMR, and we like to make sure that if you lose too many games in a row, you'll be matched up against players who are really bad to give you a confidence boost and the rush of winning!

We MMR are also here to make sure if you win too many times in a row, you are going to be matched against players better than you, and possibly a division or two higher if needed to make sure you know you're not THAT good, and to put you in your place. But worry not, putting you in your place will spark that determination inside of you to right the wrongs of a loss, and really grind your gears to tryhard next game.

With us MMR folk here to ensure your experience is highs and lows like gambling on the stock market, you'll be sure to come out of your lows and keep playing when you finally win again, and even get that boost of wins in a hotstreak baby!

And just when you start getting a little too big for you breeches, don't worry, we are here to put you in your proper place again, the ELO police, also known as the M M R gods, and we will cast you down once again until you cry......

I opted out of voteing. MMR does exist, but it does not care about you personally. Op.GG has your personal MMR as 1,050, which is normal for Bronze 3 and 2 with the average of B2 being 1,079. Consider the variables created by the people behind the keyboard and it becomes increasingly unrealistic to assume an automated system can calculate accurately player behaviors.

I brought up your rank and mmr not to try to elo shame you, The experience of people even in "low" elo matter as your playing the game for fun and to win, but the belief in ELO hell is inaccurate and holds players back from climbing, improving, and enjoying the game. As some one who started as low bronze and now consistently makes it to plat the single best thing you can do is take a moment to reflect after each game. Look at the after game stats for your micro, check replays for macro.

First off, don't opt out, gotta vote! Where would we be today without voting, right? This isn't a dictatorship or a monarch, lets not be stuck in the Middle Ages ok pal? [sg-miss-fortune]

Okay you pulled up my MMR to not elo shame me or what?

Not bad advice as far as reflecting on each match, heck I usually go over what happened with friends of mine.

I know the rule of bronze and climbing is not to blame others, because thats not even within my control, and I get it, I really do. What I will blame is the MMR, and not only the MMR, but a possible secret honor system.

I might be wrong okay, but when I am climbing out of bronze 1 all the way from B5, which I did, several times this last season, and the games I get in my promos have either 1-2 DC's Afks, and hard feeding trolls, yet somehow the other team is getting players in High Silver, Gold and Plat, there is a huge problem, ya got me? I'm not saying every game I played for my B-1 to S-5 climb was like this, but during my promos I shit you not, I would have 2/3 game with people who afk, whilst being matched against 1-2 Divisions higher players. It's just stupid. Mind you I did have 2 games for sure, in ranked, where I was going up against a guy in Plat, and my team for whatever reason hard fed the guy. I guess he was really good, or they were really bad, but in the end, I shouldn't being going against anyone 3 divisions higher than me, w t f.

Well As mmr exists and has impact I did not want to vote its a myth. However it is not responsible for deciding matches, the players are and there's just to much inconsistency for a ELO system to accurately account for player behavior. Your upset that you got afkers but how exactly was it to predict that? Also if it can accurately judge people to be leaver/ragequitters in advance it would have to be able to see a trend or a history in said player at which point would it not be more productive for riot to ban/punish that account?

Bad lucks just that, I have been stuck on a Gold 2 promo once that I failed so many times I lost count, it sucked, but the fact I kept getting back there was enough to overcome it in the long run.

A lot of players take their division to = their mmr which is untrue I like Op.gg Because it provides the ability to check mmr and that tends to affect your LP gains/losses as well as the mmr of players you see in your games, not necessarily accurate with riots internal system but if you checked the above link you'd know riots pretty vague about it themselves. so I wanted to bring it up with ya but also felt it important to clarify its not done with the intent to elo shame just wanting to be helpful. Feel the clarity is necessary as sadly the boards has alot of folks who dismiss players with the ever popular "Git gud nub"

So going back for a full week, given that your MMR is normal for your division (using op.gg) out of the 65 games (I ignored remakes.) I checked, there was 1 game where there was a player who was an entire division above you (s2 in 1.5% of your games for the last week). Now as your mmr is slightly low for the division I decided to also count any player in silver 3 as an entire divison ahead. 2 additional games, less then 5% of the matches you played last week. So mmr is not really throwing out a high number of matches that blatantly hate on you, and as I touched on early I don't think its able to accurately guess if some one will quit/rage. If it could the game health and popularity would be better served by removing said player.

On the topic of being helpful, one thing I have started doing Is having 10 to 20 game check ins for win rates. I cant pick my teammates but I can pick my champions so when I'm unable to win over 50% I drop the champion for ranked even if I really like them, if its some one new ish or has had buffs nerfs usually give them 10 rounds, if its a main of mine I will typically do 20 or 25. Helped me out a lot last few years. You don't have to abandon them forever just spend some time in normal playing them till you think you have made improvements that would be significant and give it another 10 rounds.

Op.gg provides an estimate of mmr, not the ability to check mmr. It's usually ok to get a rough idea, but it's sometimes quite inaccurate (notably around the start of seasons as it tends to get kinda confused by the mmr soft reset).

I suppose I was unclear in my post. I had hoped that " not necessarily accurate with riots internal system" would be clear that its not riots exact MMR. Also if any one takes the time to read the link in the QA section it touches up on this as well. There's no way to get accurate MMR for what riot uses, Op.gg is what I work off personally.

Heres the QA. "But according to their ranked borders and third party website X, their MMR is way higher or lower than mine! Why does this happen? There are two different issues to consider here. For borders, the main consideration is that they only represent the skill level of the player at the end of last season. This represents a skill evaluation that is rather old and very likely inaccurate when discussing current skill level. In terms of third party websites, their estimation of players’ MMR is based off of incomplete information and thus can be fairly inaccurate."

That's basically what I was pointing out yes, I was mostly addressing the line

I like Op.gg Because it provides the ability to check mmr

As I object to the word 'check' compared to 'estimate', even if you do go on to mention that it doesn't always jive with riots internal system (aka ones actual mmr).

Your not wrong my man. Mentioned it in post as some sites don't provide a MMR estimate so I use OPGG which does. So, I don't think this is gonna be some huge hot page post so I will let our conversation take place the of an edit. Thank you for adding clarity to my post mate, have a great night!

With the way games generally go, snowball one way or the other, I have to agree. I rarely have good games where both teams have solid players in all roles.

It is quite a rare thing indeed, I am suspicious.

Mmr is just a system allowing you to prove yourself, you do well, it adjusts who you play against accordingly until you are where you belong. It doesn't decide if you win games! You do! If you are better than your opponent, your MMR will increase (and so will the skill level of the people you go against) that is what keeps the game fair and why you don't get stuck playing with diamonds, masters and challenger players as a gold player. You are put against other golds, and if you suceed you can try even higher than that! if you keep succeeding, you'll climb, skip divisions, and the people you beat in the past will get to face people their own skill level.

DBS Ronovon1 votes

So what is the Rank system for then? Did you forget there is an actual rank system? Why the secret hidden MMR? Or, why even have rank at all if MMR governs who you face, and who is on your team?

MMR works like this, you do well, you get a crap team, and have to face a really good team, thats it in a nutshell.

If it was fair, they would put you on a team with people same skill level, against a team with the same skill level. But this doesn't happen.
