Good Mage Supports to Contribute to Fights With????

AcidTheWarlock··1 votes·2,848 views

So I'm just getting into PvP, and I play Blind Pick mostly. I get pretty much stuck with support, and I only own 1 support: Soraka . Of course, I can use the free champs, but I don't have a ton of options.

I always do poorly, since I'm on a usually immobile squishy character that doesn't deal a lot of damage. I'm looking to get a new champ soon, so does anyone have a recommendation for strong mage supports that would let me fight back instead of just healing/CCing/running away????

If you want a highly mobile mage who deals tons of damage, go with Sona. E is a self speed boost with a smaller boost for allies. All of her spell can be cast while moving, save for R, so she can rush forward, Q two enemies for damage (the scaling is pretty good, and the two bolts prioritize champions), and she can E while running away, or she can W to heal and shield. She's pretty much the epitome of a mobile poke support, and can be an absolute terror late game if she gets Luden's Echo.

Sona Zyra Nami Karma Morgana not really a support: Annie not supportive at all and really just picked due to doing tons of damage without needing AP: Brand Velkoz

typically as a support you always want to be standing behind your teammates if you're playing someone like Soraka

karma Karmadeals a lot of damage for a support while also providing a powerful shield. her damage falls off if she isn't building ap, which she buys a mix of with utility. zyra Zyra deals an insane amount of damage for a support. she doesn't have any sort of healing or shields, but she's a wonderful pick if the enemy team has a good engage because of her disruption capabilities, her signature combo is ewqwr, which can pretty much instantly kill an enemy squishy. build her ap. brand Brand is the same deal with zyra, except he's weaker early, has a better midgame than her, and slightly weaker lategame than her. build him ap. velkoz Velkoz is an amazing pick similar to zyra and brand because he's strong at all stages of the game and he is much better at shredding the enemy frontline than both of those two because his ultimate can deal tonnes of true damage. he is also a much higher range than both of them, making him much safer to play. all you need to do is manage his passive and q angles. build him ap. morgana Morgana somewhat lacks in the damage department, but late and early she will deal a lot of damage with her dark binding and soul shackles combo. build her a mix of utility and damage. sona Sona isn't quite able to 1v1 anyone due to her extremely low healthpool, but she is able to contribute a lot of damage with her power chord and sheen procs, and she can typically take out low health targets easily if she uses her powercord. sona is also similar to soraka in that she has powerful healing capabilities with her damage. build her utility and damage, buy a lich bane.

don't play lux or annie support. they are bad.

I agree with number 1 and 2 but

  1. Nami 2.Morgana
  2. Lulu
  3. Bard
  4. Zilean 6.Janna

The reasons why I put bard, janna, lulu so high up is their disengage but in addition to that, they usually catch enemies off guard. The barrier that lulu and Janna gives randomly is so powerful, it can literally turn a gank into a triple kill bot lane.

Zilean is the hidden OP support right now. He can literally change the tide of a GAME. Not a fight.

Had a friend in gold who went Zilean. He got caught out a little too far from us. Just a little. He dropped his entire kit, ulted himself when he was about to die. He caught 4 of the enemy team in the stun, our amumu came, then dropped his ult. They were instant dead and we won the game from that one instance where Zilean got caught. Insane.

Zyra Syndra Bard (if you collect enough meeps, you'll do crazy burst damage) Galio Lux Nunu Taliyah Annie

Pretty much any AP with good crowd control and good ap scalings will work. You also want to consider that the champ won't interfere with the Marksman's csing so champs like AurelionSol would be harder to pull off as a support. Playing champs like Katarina and Leblanc bot offer little utility to your team and end up bringing nothing but light damage if they don't snowball well.

More mage-y supports (or support-y mages) could include morgana, zyra, karma, lux, brand, and annie. I'm biased, but I also like Nami as more of a traditional support that can still play pretty forward in the lane and annoy the other team. Sona can do that, too.

On the other end of the spectrum, you could try a tankier support, like Ali, Leona, or Braum. Being tankier, you'll have an easier time surviving if you get caught, and they're actually pretty good at turning those situations around on the other team (if your carry is paying attention).

All that said, if playing as soraka is giving you issues, I'm guessing this is more of a positioning issue than a champion issue. All those mages are still going to be squishy. So while you might be able to put back a little more damage onto them in return, you're still going to die if you get caught out of position.

I do have a kind of issue with positioning, but it's more or less everyone facerushes the enemies for teamfights and I just end up getting picked off after everyone dies since I'm hiding in the back and I can't really hurt anyone.

Tanks are definitely an option, and I do have Sion , so I could probably do something there since support Sion is a thing.

Hmm. If that's the case, I'd probably push for a different direction than higher-damage mage. If the team is running in and dying, having another squishy mage running in behind them won't do a ton. Maybe with Brand, Annie, or Lux you'd be able to pick off a kill or two, but realistically it won't matter much if the rest of your team is already dead. The survivors on the other team will likely still take you down after you throw out your combo.

I feel like something that's able to disrupt the other team in one way or another might be a better option. Janna is great at disengage and peel, though your team might still not follow and actually disengage after a good disengage. Nami has her ult that can make for a solid interruption of the other team, and her bubble is good for peel (just choose targets wisely). Then there's the tankier route still available. Braum can jump in and block spells and slow lots of things. Leona has a lot of easy CC available to interrupt things. Ali can dive in and knock things around.

I also like the Sion pick as a tanky disrupter, too. Especially if you've already got some practice with his kit in general. Don't expect to get away with quite the same level of survivability you might be used to out of top lane with him, but you can still jump in and cause chaos.

The nice thing is that these skills will still translate for the most part as you are playing with better/smarter people. You basically would switch from being reactive with all your spells, to being proactive with your engage. Generally, you've got the best shot at winning a fight if your team engages it (well).

As somebody who hates supporting, I highly recommend Brand. He's (relatively) easy to pick up, and his abilities are high-impact and satisfying to use. The only damage item you need is item 3116, though he benefits from any damage you build on him. In team fights, dropping your ultimate (which is point and click) into a cluster of enemies is often enough to outright win the fight for your team, even if you get deleted immediately after. All the better if you can drop a w under them.

Annie has to be 1 of the easiest Mage supports out there but her low range may be a factor but as long as you and your adc don't over extend and play under tower with "small exchanging" you should be fine as Annie level 6 is instant death for the overextended enemy laners.

Brand Another burst champion a "little harder" than Annie but not by much and another champion that is easy to pick up kills.

Zyra Very annoying.

Sona In my opinion better than Soraka with a more play making ult and constant heals for both her and the adc
