Syn’Reh, The Mind’s End

Fighter/Mage

The Void/Icathia

Base Stats

Health: 580-1956 Health Regen: 8- 21 Mana: 324-960 Mana Regen: 8- 15 Range: 125 AD: 59-108 AS: 0.625 AR: 28- 79 MR: 32.1- 53 MS:340

Passive

Neurological Reactor

Syn'Reh's abilities build Synapse, empowering its Thoughtscream ability. Additionally, enemy champions hit by Syn'Reh's abilities or autoattacks will be linked to it. If Syn'Reh hits a linked champion with an autoattack with full Synapse, it will launch a debilitating mental attack, hindering both itself and other linked enemies.

Using abilities will build Synapse, empowering Thoughtscream.

Damaging enemy champions will create a Neural Pathway between the champion and Syn'Reh as long as Syn'Reh is within 1000 units of the champion, fading if Syn'Reh is too far away for 3s or does not deal damage to that enemy for 12s.

If Syn'Reh has maximum Synapse, its next autoattack on a linked champion will nearsight Syn'Reh and all linked champions within a 500-unit radius for 3s. While linked, Syn'Reh cannot be slowed by linked targets and its autoattacks will deal 35-90 (+10-30% AP) bonus magic damage. It will also be able to see outlines of linked champions outside of the nearsight range but they will not be targetable.

Ability 1 (Q)

Psionic Surge (Area skillshot)

Generates 10% Synapse

Syn'Reh projects a slow-moving ball of mental energy to a location, infecting enemies hit with a damage-over-time effect. It gains bonus Synapse if it attacks targets affected by Psionic Surge.

Launches a slow projectile to target location, dealing 60/115/170/225/280 (+65% AP) magic damage over 3s. The first autoattack against affected targets will generate 5% Synapse.

Cost: 65/70/75/80/85 Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8s

Ability 2 (W)

Calculated Ferocity (Passive)

Generates 15% Synapse (on leap)

Syn'Reh gains bonus attack speed based on its current Synapse. Additionally, it leaps every few seconds a short distance to attack an enemy.

Grants 5/7.5/10/12.5/15% bonus attack speed for every 25% Synapse, starting at 50% and increasing to the full value over 2s while in combat. Syn'Reh's basic attacks will cause it to leap to its target's original location, dealing 45/70/95/110/135 (+35% AP) magic damage.

(Growls loudly when ready, shakes like a dog)

Cost: N/A Cooldown: 16s

Ability 3 (E)

Mental Scythe (Melee range skillshot)

Generates 5% Synapse

Syn'Reh lashes out with its claws, damaging the first enemy hit and applying a true damage burn as well. Every few casts causes Syn'Reh to release a wave of deadly energy, dealing high damage.

Deals 30/45/60/75/90 (+25% AP) (+100% AD) magic damage as well as 30-120 (+30% AP) true damage over 2s. Hitting a linked target will charge the next cast of Mental Scythe for 3s after it is ready, causing it to release a slow wave of energy in a 650-unit radius if it hits an enemy. The wave deals 50/100/150/200/250 (+55% AP) magic damage and stuns linked enemies for 0.5s, but the empowered cast will not apply the damage over time or charge the next cast.

(On ability empowering, purple lightning surrounds Syn'Reh and its tendrils light up when it is ready)

Cost: 30/35/40/45/50 Cooldown: 3s

Ability 4 (R) (Ultimate)

Thoughtscream (Short range thin cone)

Syn'Reh shocks an enemy's mind with a burst of neural energy, dealing high damage. Thoughtscream becomes stronger with higher Synapse, gaining damage and crowd control.

Deals 100/175/250 (+75% AP) magic damage to the first enemy hit. For every 25% Synapse, Thoughtscream deals 15/25/35 (+10% AP) bonus true damage. If at 50% Synapse, Thoughtscream slows for 35/50/65% for 2s. At 100% Synapse, it deals 200/300/400 (+80% AP) magic damage and distorts the target's vision and sound but only slows for 65% of the normal amount.

(0.5s cast time)

Enemies/Rivals:

Vel’Koz, Xerath, Rek’Sai

The guardian of the lost city of Icathia, Syn’Reh is a twisted, terrifying predator that not only devours its enemies’ flesh, but also their minds. Those that dare enter the ruins face a creature that is not only cunning, but utterly emotionless.

Syn’Reh is not of the Void, despite being forever tied to Icathia. It was once an ordinary, albeit intelligent, man, a nomad living in the wilds of the Shurima Desert. The man lived alone, only with an abnormally large camel which carried his huge collection of books. The Bookseller, as he was known, visited the villages across Shurima and even the city itself, peddling the wares of writing. Though he was poor, he was happy, and quite pleased with his life. Many years he lived in the desert, until the fated day he found a very unique book laying in the deserts not far from a system of caves. Ancient even then, its cover was made of a strange, worn purple leather that pulsed warmly under his touch. As he opened it, an unearthly scream echoed from the caverns and a group of horrific creatures crawled out. The Xer’Sai. Turning and jumping onto his camel, he spurred the huge beast into action. Though the camel was swift, the sandworms were faster, running it down and sweeping its legs out from under it. Holding the book under his arm, the Bookseller bounded forwards on legs toned from years of hard living. He was fast, but the beasts tunneled forwards with blinding speed. A Xer’Sai erupted from underneath him as another reared out of the sand behind him. He knew the end was near.

The book pulsed again in his grasp as a wave of purple energy spread from it, forming a shield around the Bookseller. Shouts spread from behind the sandworms as the void creatures fell backwards, puzzled but not deterred. The largest worm struck out again, its huge maw failing to pierce the shield. The others slashed at the bubble, obviously interested in not only the tasty human but his strange prize. As a worm wound up to strike again, a spear glowing with violet energy sprouted from its back.

Icathians.

As the group of Icathian soldiers quickly sliced up the beasts, the book’s shield collapsed inwards and the man was left to the mercy of his would-be rescuers. Upon seeing the book, the leader of the group, a man of medium height but covered in glowing tattoos, shouted to the troop and hauled the Bookseller to his feet. In broken Shuriman, the leader questioned the Bookseller about his purple tome, but he could answer no questions. Though the nomad was genuine, the soldiers became infuriated and stopped his protests with a quick blow to the head.

As the Bookseller awoke, there was a strange violet light in his eyes and a horrific migraine screaming in his head. He attempted to move but was bound in chains. As he struggled to get free, his head pounded and strange whispers echoed in his head. Looking up, he saw a massive eye floating over him, inspecting his strange book. Shuddering in fear and cowering under the eye, he screamed as a searing beam of light washed over him and his thoughts vanished. As he watched, his arms grew to obscene lengths and his skin turned dark purple, His legs stretched and his fingers grew to curved black claws. The man’s heart spasmed, bones shattering and reforming as he changed from man to beast. As he stared into the Void above him, he felt nothing. No fear. No anger. No hatred. Only cold, calculating thoughts.

The newly made creature flexed its arms, cords of muscle easily shattering the chains like a sandstorm breaking the homes of peasants. The eye moved, blinking, and the beam of light returned. There was no pain and an alien presence entered the thing’s mind.

“Interesting. The book was correct. A human of sufficient mental capacity can become a potent weapon of war with some simple technology and an creature from the Void. A worthy gatekeeper for our cause.”

Syn’Reh leapt up to slash the eye, but was held in place. Deep laughter rumbled around him as thorned tentacles wrapped around the new Voidborn’s arms and a sense of vertigo turned Syn’Reh’s vision blurred. A spiral of colors surrounded it and it awoke in what it knew to be Icathia from its experience as a human.

However, the city was...different. The buildings were broken to ruins. There were no people. There was only a broken man in strange purple garb lying on a street near the gate of Icathia. Syn’Reh attempted to speak but it could not. Instead, it saw the man’s thoughts, his hopes, his dreams. It saw what he could be. Whispering of his potential, Syn’Reh melted the man’s sanity with a thought and sent him with a mission.

After the man had crawled away, Syn’Reh thought of what had happened. It had dove into the man’s mind instinctively. It had destroyed his personality. It had killed the man and replaced him with a servant of the Void.

But Syn’Reh felt nothing. Soon other humans came. It killed them with a thought and absorbed their minds. After each adventurer killed, it did not know how it knew what it did. It only remembered the eye, the voice, the goal.

It would feel hate but it felt nothing. The strange rift Syn’Reh could not leave at the center of Icathia shone bright and something crawled from it. The eye. The crystals Syn’Reh had made shone with the same color as it launched a mental attack against the eye. A high-pitched screech echoed from the eye’s mind as Syn’Reh fought to overwhelm it and it was forced back, fleeing back to the portal.

Though Syn’Reh could not feel, something touched its huge brain. Satisfaction. The creature bared its fangs in a ghoulish smile and howled.

Syn’Reh may be made by the Void, but it is not controlled by it. It is untamed and it will not bow.

Appearance:

Syn’Reh is a vaguely humanoid creature with long arms ending in curved claws. It has slightly shorter legs and walks hunched over on two legs. It has a long neck and an eyeless face with a wide mouth filled with fangs. Long tendrils emerge from its back and the back of its head, reaching about waist length and striped with glowing purple. Syn’Reh is covered in lean muscle but is very thin, and has leathery dark purple skin. It has a long, thin tail covered in the same glowing stripes as its tendrils.. Syn’Reh’s particle effects are mostly dark purple with lighter magenta energy. It does not speak, instead growling, howling, and snarling. However, if it uses an ability, it speaks in a deep, ethereal voice. Enemies will also hear the voice if they are affected by Syn’Reh’s abilities.

Pictures!

I'd expect Syn'Reh to look a little like a Xenomorph from the Alien series.

And of course some theme music:

This song was the major inspiration, with the hooded men from the video and the city reminding me of Icathia.

"Why do you fear, human? Fear is not needed. Accept your end or you shall die a gibbering wreck, lick your comrades."

"They lose themselves in war, like beasts....distance yourself. Kill with a clear mind."

"If you can hear me, you're too far gone...."

"There is no satisfaction for me, only the reactor recharging."

"Lethal."

"I do what is needed."_

Upon casting Thoughtscream _ (shrieks)

(screams)

(roars)_

(upon killing an enemy with Thoughtscream while at full Synapse, their screen does not blur but instead shows a black and white, faintly blurred version of Syn'Reh rearing its head back and roaring)

Taunts (Syn'Reh's tendrils float and crackle with energy as it paces)

_"Intelligence means nothing to me."

"I am unfeeling reason. Crying won't help when I slaughter you."

"I may be brilliant, but mercy wasn't programmed in."

"Your genius is like a beautiful glass sculpture. So great to see. Even better to destroy."

"Trying to out-think me is like trying to fight a sandstorm."

(Taunting Urgot) "I am truly the mind killer."

(Taunting Jax) "Come home, Icathian. I've kept it nice and free of explorers just for you."

(Taunting Vel'Koz) "TELL ME WHAT YOU MADE ME INTO." _

Jokes (Syn'Reh sits on its hind legs and bats at a large purple butterfly that hovers around its head)

_"Accessing joke database. Why did the Runeterran cross the road? To get away from the Void monster."

"Searching joke database......what do you get if you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?"

"Why is it so hard to tell puns to kleptomaniacs? Because they take everything literally"

(Syn'Reh falls over backwards) "Joke....database....empty."

"Recalculating humor processors."

"I never get how I can tell jokes. I never think they're funny...." _ Animations

Idle: Syn'Reh throws its head back and yawns, showing off its teeth and licking its lips.

Recall: Syn'Reh floats into the air, surrounded by a cloud of purple lighting. The cloud grows in size until it covers the creature, and Syn'Reh lands on all fours in the fountain.

Laugh: Syn'Reh twitches, before shaking like a hyena.

Dance: Syn'Reh hovers in the air and begins doing backflips.

Spawning in: Syn'Reh flexes its arms and bares its teeth as energy runs down its spine.

Death: Syn'Reh screams as it slowly melts in a cloud of violet energy, arms spasming.

Thanks for the help so far and I hope everyone enjoys this concept and my future designs. Hopefully they won't be as busted as the first edition of the champ.

Hey there, review times.

Passive: Basically, fighting in an area creates "fuck you" zones that cause huge explosions in that area as he continues fighting there. The explosion range isn't 2500 to 3000 units, is it? That's... HUGE.

Q: Pretty standard two-hit stun. The aoe aspect isn't all that healthy in my opinion, but the fact that triggering the stun removes the DOT gives him some interesting challenges of maximizing the effect.

W: Kill this. No ability in the game forces a target to burn one of their skills. This completely cripples any target no matter who they are. If they have a basic movement ability? They're burning their escape and forced into Syn'Reh's range. If they don't? Targeted stun that forces them to walk into danger. And then they're a champion that then either has to burn their ultimate to escape, or has no escape and just dies.

And this is TARGETED. Where's my counterplay?

Oh, and for added fun, this coming after his Q then stuns you once it's done burning your escape (unless you get charmed, then the two cc's just overlap pointlessly)

That said, I can foresee some amusing spaghetti code with how Caitlyn's net shooter would work with this ability.

E: Okay so he hits you harder, and gains damage reduction and fucks you for daring to fight back if he's near one of his ginormous areas of control.

And this is TARGETED an attack reset. Where's my counterplay?

R: He fucks you up if he gets in punching range and then fucks you up even more after he's done fuck you up originally.

And this is TARGETED an attack reset an on-hit. Where's my counterplay?

Yeah, I'm sorry but Syn'Reh completely lacks in interesting gameplay interactions. He either gets on you and beats you to death with his 2 targets spells and on-hit abilities, or he doesn't because he has no dashes or hastes and dies ineffectually. He strikes me as some sort of AP juggernaught, and he represents how easily the juggernaught concept can collapse under its own ideal. He's too binary and good at what he does when he's in an ideal situation, while too weak in an unfavorable one.

REWORKING

//////WIP//////

AcidTheWarlock4/16/2017, 11:21:43 PM1 votes

The WIP is finished!

Syn'Reh is now a more mobile fighter-style champ, having a lot of CC and engage but still possessing short range. However, it has strong DPS as well as bursts of damage, and will be deadly when diving the backline or in 1v1 situations.

Please leave feedback, I think this version is much more healthy.

Adding VO, I'll finish it up tomorrow.

AcidTheWarlock4/18/2017, 10:27:50 AM1 votes

VO finished, some tuning on E damage, and some formatting. If someone can throw me some formatting tips it would be well appreciated.
