Dumb idea. Just hear me out!

So this was a pretty dumb idea me and a coworker had a year ago. And I recently started thinking about it.

so what if each class (fighter, adc, mage etc.) had 1 or 2 class items that none of the other classes have access too. Not something completely ground shattering but something that just adds...I don't know flavor?

Here's an example. So say you're playing an apc and you upgrade your rabbadons to a..shit I dunno super rabbadons? Playing as Malzahar would spawn a voidlig automatically when you ult someone. Think Aghanim's Scepter from DOTA (Crap I just broke the cardinal rule of comparing dota to league...Er)

ADCs could get an overclocked infinity edge that depending on champion would have other effects. Like Sivir would have ricochet constantly active through the entirety of her ult. Vayne could have a pink ward effect when she ults and goes invisible so she can see cloaked units or wards.

This is just day dreaming of course but it would be awesome to see. And I'm genuinely curious what other ideas you guys might have if this happened in an alternate reality. What effects would your favorite champion have?

Ya, I've always wanted a League Aghanim's Scepter. They already have kind of a similar idea now in Viktor's Hex Core.

I'd want Nami's Tidal Wave to become instant cast and travel a little faster. Can't tell you how many times I've been interrupted trying to use it.

One issue I see with a variation of Aghanim's for LoL would be that Riot would have to go through and tailor EVERY. SINGLE. CHAMPION. in the game to the item for their class.

Another issue with this would be champions are largely "bi"-classed (Fizz being an assassin, but also classed as a "fighter"). So would they get the benefit of building both class items?

Say they only get the benefit of the class item that is their main class, what about the people that play them more as the secondary class (like the top lane Fizz that isn't really an Assassin, but very much a skirmisher at this point.) This would run into 1 of 2 situations (or both!):

  • People that play champions as their secondary class would be outraged that they don't get to use the class items,

or

  • You now have a fighter building an Assassin class item, and doing obscene amounts of damage while not being a squishy assassin.

I do believe the itemization in League of Legends is a serious issue that needs to be addressed and - dare I say it - diversified, but I do not believe that this would be a wise item choice for LoL.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I agree, it was more of a day dreamed idea anyways. fun concept on paper but extremely hard to execute in reality. Just some dumb fun idea we got from playing Dota

Yes, but since it would interact differently with each champion, they wouldn't have to change it just because they buffed another champion so they'd only have to balance each item once for most champs. In Dota 2, the Aghanim's Scepter also isn't available on all heroes. But just because you can use it doesn't mean you should, either.

This idea is better than runeglaive.
