How Do I Counter Build Gragas As Jayce?

ItsOrval··3 votes·1,315 views

This match up and Swain are probably the worst ones I face as Jayce. I have 900+ games on Jayce, but i have no clue how to counter these guys. They do good damage and take no damage. I end up just afk farming the whole lane then roaming.

Any tips?

I fear there is no other solution than farm while being careful and not give them free kills and then roam.

mr ad items and maybe an armor pen item like item 3036 item 3033 item 3139 item 3814 i'd possibly go for item 3033 though because of graggy's passive and swain's ult

I'd go Hexdrinker + Executioners Calling, then upgrade the Hexdrinker into Maw. The Hex/Maw shield can do a pretty good job of saving your life, and you need the Executioners Calling if you want any of your damage to stick without getting healed away. It's still gonna be a farm lane for you but at least you don't have to slowly get whittled down by them and lose out on cs&xp compared to them by having to base more.

That doesnt work, tried that many times.

Maybe it's partially your playstyle against them. Usually Jayce players want to poke and slowly wear down their opponents before getting really aggressive with the trades, but as you know you can't poke Gragas and Swain they just laugh it off and heal up so maybe you're not really poking at all and playing more timidly than you would against other matchups. You could try going Hexdrinker -> Executioners -> Vamp Sceptre into probably BT (maybe Mercurial if you really want the MR and the active can benefit you vs the rest of their team since it won't do anything against Gragas ult, and Swain's root is easy to dodge) and being more aggressive with the trading and be able to heal up afterwards to make them play more timidly. Either that or you just need to do what you're doing now which is play safe, farm, set them up for gank or roam to get kills to get yourself fed.

I do play aggressive as Jayce against Gragas and Swain. The problem is, like you said, they just heal it back up. And while youre poking, they just throw their q at you that is impossible to dodge, and it does more damage than your Q. Not to mention you run out of mana after a few Qs.

Well, rush Maw into a Cleaver, probably.

Get a Tear because you'll need the mana against the tankier champions you can't oneshot.

Don't Q unnecessarily, it'll make you waste mana. Auto poke is fine against Gragas, Swain is just a piece of bullshit who becomes less useful in teamfights than in lane (he falls off harder than Jayce if the rest of his team is worse than your team, if not then he'll probably stomp your team). That sounds really weird, but a lot of Swain's damage is single target (Q and E or whichever one is the damage amp) and although tanky in a 1v1, he's squishy against a whole team.

Gragas is a piece of bullshit who has a nearly undodgable Q and an E with a bullshit hitbox. See if input buffering your E will cancel his - if it does, then you should have no problem in a duel, so force duels unless minions will kill you.

item 3156 or item 3814 depending on if you want sustain or damage.
