Why doesn't Irelia's W scale?

Just curious. It's got no stat scaling on it whatsoever. It seems weird to have a skill like that in the game.

Is there a reason for this?

Irelia as a whole will probably be reworked. Her W doesn't have scaling because Irelia is designed as the quintessential triforce into tank type champion, with some room for maybe an extra on hit item like botrk in there if snowballing.

Her ideal build is to grab triforce and then get bulky, and since triforce doesn't give much ad and the sheen proc only goes from base ad there isn't much of a point to give her big scalings.

Besides, her W is deceptively ridiculous in power as is, if they made it scale they'd have to make it much weaker without items and I don't think Irelia players would be too happy with that tradeoff considering she's a snowball champ who aims for a midgame power spike into an early nexus push.

While I agree she needs a little rework, riot's rework team scares me as they are all a bunch of hanzo mains.

Isn't that tradeoff though acceptable if it gives you more build variety?

If it scaled, she would have a late game. She's supposed to fall off in the late game, while having a great mid game (see trinity force powerspike)

Okay, I can see this argument. So my question is could she have a tiny bit of scaling that either still lets her have some while falling off or something than makes her mains decide between damage and tank?

its enough damage to burst squishes and let her dual tanks over time. Like the person above me said, if they added scaling the base damage would have to be cut heavily and she would likely not be able to build tank.

isn't it just because she's been nerf'd? [slayer-jinx-wink]

She's supposed to be the mid game goddess and then fall off a little late game so not having a scaling on her W enforces that. Late Game the true damage on her W at max rank is still high enough where she is relevant, but not completely over the top. Adding a scaling to her W might break her.

Goes to champion.gg to confirm Sees that the site is still terrible from the update

Would some sort of trade off work? Let her heal and true damage scale if she has to build another damage item or two instead of TF into tank, for example.

What's the point? It works as it is. A crap scaling that won't be used because it's crap is no different from no scaling at all. Most likely, it's base damage would be nerfed and the AD from Triforce would almost exactly compensate. Which means close to no nerf and shit scaling.

Changing it around to give it a scaling with a compensation nerf could potentially work, but it's fine as is right now so there is no need to change it.

It does scale in a roundabout way. It scales with attack speed so that you get more true damage off in the duration.

It does scale. It scales with attack speed. This is why blade of the ruined king is typically her second item if she is doing well.

It doesn't scale with AD like Yi's E does because she is already a dominating force in the mid game (while Yi is late game) and has easy access to the enemy backline. It would break her.

To make sure she falls off late game

Statistically scaling true damage on non situational auto attacks

Clueless dude

Her W also has on-hit healing for her.

If she had scaling true damage she wouldn't fall off basically, making her a stupidly strong pick
