Diana is a bit overbearing?

Dracocrash··8 votes·1,235 views

Hey guys, recently I have been playing a lot against and with diana (mainly mid, sometimes jungle) And I noticed every single game she gets fed and starts bursting down people really hard! SO i wanted some tips to play against her. I know she has a weak pre 6 but thats hard to abuse with her shield, CC, and decent poke on her Q. Are there any particular champs, builds or playstyles that counter her? or is she overpowered?

Diana is my third most played champion: Some of the most difficult champions I've had to deal with are Azir by far. Azir can bully the daylight out of Diana pre-6 to a point where once she's 6, she can't really play aggressive anymore. Any other champions with a large amount of zone control will work well against her.

Just don't pick Zed against her...she creams the day light out of him in pretty much every trade.

Azir is my most played champion (135k mastery points) Diana is my third (90k mastery points) and you couldn't be more wrong. It sounds like you just don't know how to play against Azir. Start item 2041 rush item 3001 and don't take free damage. If you take free damage the whole lane then you are setting yourself up for failure.

Well to be fair, when I said Diana is my 3rd most played champion, its pretty deceptive, I bounce around a lot from tons of champions and Diana I have at level 4 mastery along with two others (Skarner and Shyvana).

I'll try crystalline flask, never thought about that, usually ran double dorans.

Diana has really high base stats. She doesn't need a ton of items to get going. If I was laning against a Azir I would go

item 2041 >item 1056 >item 1056 >item 3111 >item 3001 >item 3157 >item 3089 >item 3100 >item 3135

While also taking summoner 12 so I could literately never be poked out of lane.

Thanks, I'll try this next time I play against him!

Diana needs the Thor level nerf hammer. I wouldn't mind the damage if she wasn't so damn tanky.

IcyPepper1 votes

I can see her shield being reduced a bit overall, and boosted against monsters to keep her jungling at the same level.

And maybe some base stat reduction if she's really that tanky.

Lugg1 votes

I think Jungling is the biggest problem with Diana. It completely removes her biggest weakness, a weak early game. She just farms till she gets an item and then she is free to pentakill the entire enemy team.

I think Riot should make her jungling harder and encourage her to go back to lane.

Lord Azır2 votes

She's not overpowered in my opinion. Fighting Diana is kind of like fighting Riven. It's hard to 1v1 her even if she's behind. It's just about drafting against her. She has to be on top of you to do damage and she is a melee champ, so take advantage of that with champions like TwistedFate Heimerdinger Ziggs Lux Veigar Chogath Lissandra Morgana OriannaMalzahar either CC her to death or out poke her / shove her into her tower.

not overpowered, overbearing. She definitely is pretty indomitable, especially for many mid laners.

I find ziggs and TF to be rather weak to her, once she hits 6. The other champs on the list seem promising.

Statistically TF and Ziggs are some of her harder counters in the sense they win lane much more than her in that match up. With TF you have that gold card if she gets near you, you have the blue card to sustain and it's very easy to shove her under tower. Same with Ziggs, hes one of the safer laners and once you get item 3174 you just spam Q while sitting back and pushing her under tower / poking her down. Poke and CC destroy Diana. It sounds like your problem is just not understanding Diana. It's as simple as this, its impossible for Diana to burst you if she doesn't land Q, that's her main source of dmg and that's what resets her ulti. Treat it like a Fizz ult.. just don't get hit by hit and you win.

It does have a 6 second cooldown so dodging every-time is impossible. Yup, I don't understand diana thats why I created this thread. Anyway you gave me a pretty good idea on how to take her on so, duly noted.

As someone who's been pretty much spamming Diana jungle non-stop, generally avoiding her q obviously is the easiest method of dealing with her. Alacrity helps LOADS with dodging, and building a banshee's veil at somepoint will stop her from accomplishing much of anything. Any champ, like azir, that can knock her back after ulting also helps.

Yeah, the only problem with Azir though is his ulti is on a 1-1:30 min cd while Dianas is like 20 seconds. So you don't wanna pick a Azir into Diana generally.

depends on how confindent youa are on dodgeing her Q. His longrange soldier dps gives a really hard lane if he's played correctly, while allowing him to stay at max Q range, which is rather easy to dodge.

It's really a lot easier than you make it sound. Azir can only re-position his soldiers every 10 seconds early on. If he uses a Q just dash to him and boom half his hp is gone and he can't do anything about it. Plus you have a shield to negate a lot of damage if you went the smart build path item 3111 item 3001. There's no way Diana would ever lose this lane, Azir is hard countered by champions with gap closers like Diana. His only escape is on a 20 second cooldown, he has the lowest base move speed in game and his only disengage (ulti) is on a almost 2 minute cooldown early game.

diana has no dash pre 6, so you can easily zone her away from minons early on. If she uses her shield frequently, she's oom very fast. once she has abysal, things get harder, but that needs quite some time.

azir's Ult is enough to completely make Diana irrelevant during a fight, cd or not. If she jumps on you just back off and come back later.

In team fights yes, but in the laning phase he's out of luck. Plus you can dodge his ulti all together with a good timed item 3157

Sire Hippington1 votes

cause he totally cannot use the 2.5 sec to get away into savety...

Then he's out of the fight? And can't ult for another minute while your ulti is off cooldown.

True. But I did have a game earlier where a Diana mid got utterly destroyed by a mid Bard, so I don't think she's overpowered. You jsut have to be smarter then her.

I don't think she's over powered either. She's one of the most balanced champions in my opinion. Yeah everyone says "Diana burst so high" well literately that's her only purpose.. doing dmg. None of her abilities do anything else except 1 slow, everything else is just straight dmg. You dodge her Q that's a 5 second window where she can't use her ulti. She can easily get her ulti on cooldown if she messes up, she has no escape, ect.

Champions who counter Diana in lane include pokey champions with utility and damage mitigation or escapes. A list from hardest to still strong:

Azir Kayle Kassadin Heimerdinger Ryze Lissandra Malzahar Morgana Galio

Jungle counters include those capable of abusing her weak early game and total lack of escapes.

LeeSin Rengar Nocturne Olaf Nunu

To strategically ruin Diana, the most obvious method is to outplay her Q, which is her highest scaling ability and is most easily dodged by circling around her counterclockwise. The absolute best way to outplay the Q is to buy Banshee's Veil, which will block the moonlight debuff even if you just facetank it. Diana, as well as most melee bruisers, is forced to respect zones of control. If you are squishy and Diana is able to delete you, keep a melee tank between you and her. Most Diana players will want to split push and hard farm late into the game, since her core items are very expensive and she has AoE in her autoattacks. Since she has no escapes, you will be able to bunch up on her if she tries this for an easy kill.

Crowgun2 votes

An easy counter is Malzahar, as soon as she jumps on you hit her with a full rotation and she dies. You can also lane safely by using your visions and staying safe/getting jungler help if need be.

Also helps if you have a strong duelist on your team, like Trynd or Jax, they can 1v1 her fairly easily mid-late game.

As long as you group and have a decent front line, she finds it hard to get to her targets

I pretty much hate Diana. She's basically Akali but with a ridiculous shield instead of steal/vamp. My biggest bitch about Diana is that she can technically have 100% uptime on her shield. In practice it's closer to 70% uptime, which is pretty absurd.

Like, when you get a good Diana who will W for the initial shield and then only detonate the orbs 4 seconds later, you start to get the idea. She ends up with a 60% AP shield that lasts 8-10 seconds on a 6-10 second cooldown. For context that's basically two of Orianna's shields stacking shield amount and refreshing duration with approximately the same cooldown.

I think the shield needs to be looked at. Maybe 10% AP initially and then 10% per orb as they detonate, each with their own 3-5 second duration (not extending the duration of the entire stacked shield). Right now once she's fed near end game, she's getting shields for 500+ damage every few seconds.

Sire Hippington1 votes

the shield is actually pretty weak as far as self-shields go. most shields have a 70%+ uptime with max cdr, and 200+0.6 is a rather pathetic base value on a shield compare that to lux, a super save long range mage with 360+0.7 on the same cd

LeeSin The counter to all!

Rengar Don't forget this one too!

as melee, play around her cds, if her W is out for waveclear or she just proced her passive on minions, you have a short window to trade, post 6 it's mostly about avoiding Q and getting a short trade while it's on cd.

As ranged, its easier, it's just avoiding her Q. On longranged champs that can act out of her Q range, or atleast at maxrange, thats rather easy. Playing her a bit yourself if she's free to play certainly helps alot, as you will get a hang on her Q-curve, which makes dodgeing it far easier. Any instant cc also helps, a good part off her damage comes from the passive, so if you can prevent her from getting thos AAs of, it'S pretty huge. You shiould also not try to 1v1 her and keep vision, if she catches you alone, your done, she's a assasin after all. but in teamfights, good positioning and cc shut her down pretty well. If her Q misses at the beginning of the teamfight, you have atleast 3.6 sec without fear, enough time for your frontline to nail her down(she needs to get pretty close if she trys to reach a well poasitioned backline with Q) and for you to blow her up, she's not that tanky outside of 1v1, she will melt rather fast if focused by multiple members. She also has no escape and is all aoe and melee, so she will usually push the wave, beeing in a easy position to gank for your jungler.

It's prettymuch like vs any assasin: don't get cought alone, ward your flanks, position in a way that forces them to go through your frontline in order to reach you.

though i do agree that this isn't as easy in soloQ, especially in lower elos, as you requier your team to beat her. longranged mages, especially if the have either instant cc or defensive mechanisms are your best choic if you can't rely on your team. Also, gettign some early MR to surive her level 6 all in certainly helps to atleast not feed her. lateron a banshies can help alot.

I was ahead 2/0 with a finished Runeglaive and a level advantage as Nidalee against a Diana jungle with just her Stalker's Blade finished.

She missed her Q and still 1-shot me. Makes sense, right?

To anyone defending Diana, there's a reason her win-rate and ban-rate are slowly increasing every day.

Funny you say that because I remember being 3/0 with a 2 level advantage over a nid mid as Morgana...than she landed a spear pounced in and insta-gibbed me with takedown.

Pot meet kettle.

As a dude that has played Diana a lot, Karma is actually really good into her especially because you can bully her really really hard. I used to play Jayce into her a lot but haven't done it since his rework but I am pretty sure the same results will happen.
