Kleptomancy and season 2
So back in season 2, Stanley of TPA helped push the gp10 meta. Riot decided after that season ended to remove free gold income via items and/or make it unique so that these items couldn't be stacked (in the case of current support items giving gold). When people innovated and brought support items top for champs like cho, they nerfed the viability of support gold income items for laners who actually farmed minions. But now they basically redoubled their efforts in the opposite direction with kleptomancy. It rewards generally overly safe champions - allowing them to both outsustain when they should be getting forced out of lane and to "outfarm" even if the enemy has perfect cs. Most of these champs are also hard scaling champs (fiora, nasus, gp primarily). They are practically unable to lose 1v1 early game without MASSIVE outplay by their opponents thanks to the sustain klepto gives them - allowing them to take stupid trades and come out ahead when they are supposed to be at their WEAKEST. They sacrifice nothing in early damage to get this either - unlike gp5/gp10 runes supports ran at end of last season to rush ardent. This is thanks to sustain, mana potions, and damage amplification potions they can earn via klepto in addition to the extra gold.
Last I checked, the game was supposed to be an expression of SKILL. Klepto is NOT skill. There is no outplay involved and there is no counter for their opponents other than to simply... outscale. This fails for 2 reasons. 1. The advantages klepto gives early are unreasonably strong - It's basically a cull every few minutes - and there's the sustain, mana, etc. from items it gives too. 2. Few toplaners can match - much less exceed - the scaling of fiora, nasus, gp. So even IF you make it to late game, they are still better. 3. Games end sooner and/or are decided well in advance and merely drag out with one side far too behind to have a legit chance of coming back - meaning you generally won't have a chance to outscale even IF your champ with your keystone DOES outscale klepto.
Return klepto to what it was meant to be - a support keystone. Drastically reduce gold income and item collection if the user kills a minion. If you want to keep it viable whatever, but it needs to be severely toned down. These champs should have to actually outplay to get advantages early in a "losing" matchup rather than get it due to the insane sustain and free gold provided by the rune. Electrocute has 50 sec cd early game, aftershock has 20 sec, klepto has... whenever your next spell is up. How is this possibly logical in the slightest? ... It's not.
and it has been doing wonders. Everytime I use my biggest attack booster with my AS from W i get free shit. And it could give me more AD or sustain with red pots or tenacity from Iron or god forbid 120 gold from RNG and more RNG from getting the gold token in the first place. If I roll high and 400 gold from just kelpto before backing for the first time (which is possible) I spike into extra damage than my opponent can dream of because most AD's can't benefit from klepto like I can. Exceptions like ezreal are obvious. I can also speak to the Nasus bullshit because I also play a lot of riven and riven can win the lane early before he stacks and gets huge but klepto helps that path to last a very short amount of time and he can proceed to solo kill when I have 2 kills up very consistently. Agree klepto is a problem.
