I hate playing ADC, it's an overall terrible experience.

Slave Knight··24 votes·6,247 views

It is not an easy role at all, let me start with that. The lane is so volatile and there are so many unwelcomed visitors there to help mess up your party at any given time of the day.

I am a terrible ADC player, absolute garbo but I won't feed my lane on purpose and I'll do my best to maintain equal cs and experience with the enemy laner. But keeping up isn't good enough for the team, nooooo. Not losing is not good enough, if I don't carry then I don't deserve the role 'Attack Damage Carry' (despite not even wanting it in the first place).

If I don't somehow outplay their dive comp Jax, Yasuo, Thresh, Ivern and Cait with my Morde, Anivia, Graves, Maokai, Xayah comp it's all my fault. If I go in a 'little' too close, I die. If I keep my distance, I can't put much damage down range.

Talk about a damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'm feeling like whilst people see ADCs as the whiny bratty child that needs all the resources poured into them, they are forgetting how on-demand their abilities must be to be able to survive in a game and meta, where the whole world wants to kill you.

Sorry support players, I just feel the ADC role is harder than what you give them credit for and I have mad respect for anyone who can pull this role off well despite the fact that everyone else trying to put you down if you fail and shit on you for being bad.

Guess I'm a terrible player in imaqtpie's books seeing as how bad I am at ADC. I'm just gonna stick to my 'no skill' top lane island where I belong.

Day 420,

Top lane island still has an uneasy quiet atmosphere, as my fellow canine neighbor seems to be enjoying farming those little creeps with his Q.

In order to be successful as a ADC ( this comming from a plat lvl one)

You need to posses some masochism, a touch of sadism and quite a lot of patience while plotting vengence against everyone who bullied you.

Because you´ll need to endure getting screwed by everyone and everything until you get items, which you might not even get if you get pounded hard enough.

Being able to take it from behind and still be able to slowly sharpen the dagger to cut the offenders pounding stick off, that is the mark of a true ADC main.

Be aware though, it's unhealthy to play ADC nonstop for long periods of time due to buildup of stress so some casual jungling, midlane dueling or toplane bashing for mental relaxation is recommended.

Support is only recommended if you posses extreme amounts of masochism and can endure the weight of doing the dueling work for two people while protecting the ADC from at least 2 out of the 3 divers.

I just went slightly insane learning how to play ADC at a plati lvl, but i got a little better after learning to relax and chill in the jungle^^

Shyvana is very relaxing once you get used to the enemy team flaming you for committing arson, murder and vandalism of towers as well as dragon theft.

Mhihnj4 votes

the dragons probably flame her for committing parricide.

Thefrostyviking4 votes

Current lore says....matricide i think? Well it's just a more detailed description compared to parricide.

And in Shyv's Rift case....she kills as many dragons as she can get her...claws on.

For the sake of gaining power (dat passive)....not even sure what to call that except indiscriminate murder as long as the target happens to be hostile but a preference for dragons?

But is it genocide if they just happen to kill a few? I mean, she kills many more jungle animals with her forest fires, countless minions and who knows how many champions.

From easiest to hardest I see it as Top, Mid, ADC/Support (Balanced out) and then Jungle.

I've always defended ADCs as a difficult role. People go on about how they suck, as they lock in full squishy teams with zero front line... And they wonder why ADCs struggle to deal damage and keep dying when there's borderline nothing protecting them in most games :P (Another reason why the full damage mage support craze is something I'm so against. I'll stick to my tank supports thank you)

fed adc is better than a fed top or mid or jungle. by far the most important lane to win.

and I think those stupid rankings of roles need to go away. try to actually lane against darius, rumble or riven/jayce. they will shit on you. not to mention. you're on an island. extremely dive prone. have less vision than bottom lane due to two people warding = more vision.

top lane is easy because it hardly has an effect on the game. "i lose. well idc the enemy darius just gets kited to eternity." "oh I won look I do a lot of damage but enemy ad/mid one hit my short ranged ass before I get closel" you get my point its forgiving to lose lane. but unrewarding to win as much as mid or bot or jungle.

mid if its an ap mid. since ap is such a weird stat even if they fall behind its easier to catch back up because enemy will most likely build armor for the fed ad and no MR. squishies generally build no mr. so even an item behind you still do respectable damage.

for jungle. its possible for both junglers to do well because they aren't laning against each other. so thats a long story.

you just won two games in a row on draven out of all adcs against kassadin both games. and in both games all your lanes lost except you.

adc is the most important role to have ahead.

a kassadin and a tank shouldn't kill you alone. no shit.

it isn't a big sample size but thats my opinion. but you should know yourself. again all your lanes fed except you and you still won. against a kassadin and a tank. try to make a better argument.

Do you really feel that way when cait/karma pushes you under your tower and your team comes to help you?

Slave Knight4 votes

It's not up to me to decide how the game plays out but I would say, like in my solo lane, I'd prefer if everyone stuck to their own business. Now I know that's more fantasy than anything so I'm prepared for others to invade lanes aka gank, to generate advantages around the map. It's just how the game is played. Bot lane just happens to be the easiest to snowball with how first tower and dragons work alongside their weaker towers.

Silly Neeko6 votes

Yes. I prefer to just fight alone especially if i am top lane. It lets me have an actual chance to learn how to play my champion vs theirs without being like "hey uhh, gonna need you to camp me cause thats the only way i can do anything".

Literally had a game top that it didnt matter how much i warded, I could not NOT die. I can slaughter the enemy top laner, when he goes in for his poke (since hes maokai and i was corki) with him dashing at me, i dashed away and then proceeded to take over half his health away. Unfortunately though the enemy Rakan and Evelynn kept coming top, along with one time of Annie, and so it didnt matter what i had up.... They kept coming and coming. Had 1 gank from Volibear. On the otherhand, the absolute only way for that Maokai to even have a lane phase was to have me camped.

I do not blame my jungler for not ganking, he pressured other lanes and took out dragons and stuff while it was practically a 3v1 top....... But I know i can take out the enemy laner. I knew how to play against him and he could do nothing about it.

There are too many people getting heavily carried by camps now adays that when I go into lane, chances are it is going to be an easy lane. Reason why? People have no clue how to beat their laner. Why? Because they rely too much on ganks.

Yes it is a team game....... No that does not mean you need to play their lane for them. They can not learn if they do not get the chance to.

Ben Sharpio2 votes

Ok but my point still stands. The maokai needs help in that situation, and his team was very smart to camp you. I think i'd agree with you if there were less cheesers like you, who bring ranged champions into a lane that is meant for melee champions.

Silly Neeko2 votes

Help...... After the third time of them all coming top at me, he had barely 20 more farm than me. So yeah, he needed help for sure. But consider this....

Had he been able to learn how to play Maokai by trial and error, he would have put a few saplings into the brush. Instead he just tossed them into lane. He would have been able to see where his damage lays, and how to keep his sustain up. He would have learned how to itemize his build to deal with the enemy at hand, and then the enemy team better. Mabey not in that particular game which they still lost because they kept being too busy camping top, but Corki is not even a hard carry. There was a Vayne they practically let free farm, and as i mentioned the Volibear put pressure on the other lanes and took dragon because it was so easy to take. Eventually those two pretty much carried the game.

Mao should not level his Q first vs a ranged champion unless its a Quinn and you can knock her out of the jump she has. He would have potentially learned this that game if he wasnt too busy thinking "alright, hes back, need another gank"

Beating Ranged champions top lane is not as hard as you make it out to be. I have beaten Vayne top as Tahm Kench. Ive beaten Urgot top with Mordekaiser. Teemo is a top laner...... Quinn..... There are plenty of top laners that are ranged that you should figure out how to beat to be successful. It is not really "cheeseing" if its already the main roles they are played in. Corki is a bit off for being top, but no worse than Teemo or Quinn.

Your point stands that yes, it is nice to get ganks. My point is, that they chose to camp me who was not a hard carry, and so they paid the price in pretty much every other objective in the game. They didnt even get my turret for about 25 minutes and that was with me roaming from time to time. You can claim they were farming me but at a certain point, i am worth less than a wave of minions. Being shared with 3 people, i probably started giving them about as much gold as MABEY a cannon minion each. Is this really helpful? Not really.

Glory973 votes

The probleme you describe is the adc in soloqueue probleme. If you have good peel not dying isn't that difficult. A good lulu or shen can be very helpful. But these pick are rarely seen in soloq, because everybody needs to pick play-maker champions. It will be yasuo toplane, thresh support and when the teamfight starts they straight up dive into the enemy backline without giving a damn about the own adc.

It's difficult to change the adc-role, because the adcs are not the probleme. Riot needs to make peel support interesting or rather to say give the potential to make outplays.

MorgManBasher2 votes

If you don't play the role, of course you are going to get failed when you play it. It is what it is.

Get autofilled and don't play ADC? Stick to easier ADC's like Caitlyn MissFortune Or if you want to get spicy since you are a top lane main goMordekaiser

Teams are going to get salty, especially if their main source of damage late game constantly gets caught and dies because they don't actually play the role.

Slave Knight4 votes

Well I was kind of up against a Dive comp with no real peel. I won't disregard that I'm bad at the role but I don't think I played so bad as to be singled out and targetted for verbal abuse despite not being the only factor for our loss.

I wouldn't exactly say MissFortune or Caitlyn are easy.

MF needs to land a Q on an almost dead minion for lots of damage. Her W is knocked out by a single aa from champion or minion. Her E has bad damage, but a good slow. Her R is probably the only thing that makes her "easy". Caitlyn isn't easy. Her Q gets reduced by 33% if hits a minion before a champion. Her traps have a small activation time, that require a good support to help land. Her E is good mobility, if it hits then it does damage. Her R gets blocked if someone walks in front of it.

MorgManBasher1 votes

There are hard things about every champion, but Cait is probably THE easiest ADC in the game and very easy to pick up, especially now that she is oen fot he best ADC's in the game and pretty overpowered. She is up there with Lucian while being easier to play than him.

10 fps1 votes

I don't think Caitlyn is easy. When it comes to simple kits, Ashe, Jinx, MF have much simpler kits than Caitlyn and lower skill caps. Caitlyn is safe, yeah, but you also have to learn how to use and place her traps properly. Then there's laning as Caitlyn which also takes some time and practice to get used to. To play Caitlyn effectively in lane you need to use/know trading stance. You have to zone the enemy from farming while focusing on farming well yourself. She's a lane bully and you're not using her optimally if you play her like you play her like how you would play Jinx or Vayne in lane. I'd say Jinx or Ashe are a lot easier to pick up.

I was watching my plat friend play as twitch vs caitlyn and he instantly knew that that Caitlyn was autofilled based on how she was playing.

Yea, I know. But, imo, Lucian is easier than Caitlyn. Lucian is far more mobile, and his abilities (except ult) cannot be blocked. Caitlyn gets a damage reduction, her W needs someone to step on it, and her E gets minion blocked (or intercepted). Her ultimate also gets intercepted. I mean, the really easy champions are KogMaw and Twitch (imo). Kog is the right click champ for a reason, and Twitch deals true damage with every ability he has.

Can't have sympathy for the whining of ADC players anymore in any form because it all traces back to their retarded powercurves

which is also the reason why they cannot have their 1 item powerspikes like botrk now or lethality a while back it always causes game wide balance issues and warps the meta

So yes be useless until item 2/3 and have an entire enemy team gunning for you to make that 2/3 item happen at minute 50 rather then 20 All thanks to your powercurves

As a support main and self proclaimed "Dumpster 5" ADC, I still think that supporting is more of a crap chute than ADC.

Sure, being the "carry" of the team is a pretty big weight, but I'm the guy in charge of making sure he doesn't die. I'm literally expected to die at a moments notice if it will buy the ADC extra time or save his life. If there isn't vision, it's my fault even if my trinket is down and I've already dropped every ward in my sight stone and the idiot refuses to back and spend his 4K gold, or heaven forbid at least drop your own 2 charge ward, if we get ganked and I survive it's my fault because I didn't save them, I'm the one expected to eat tower shots so that the ADC can make kill attempts, in the case of going against Caitlyn I've had ADCs intentionally make me eat her ult when I'm backing, killing me in the process and they're at full HP with lifesteal. Bot lane lost, the ADC blames me. I try to hold back and help them get farmed up safely, I wasn't aggressive enough, I go ham on the enemy's mistakes, I'm being overly aggressive, etc, etc.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason man, sure it doesn't mean every single one, but it's a dang lot of them act like spoiled brats if they actually say anything at all. Yes, I mess up, but about 85% of the time I flat out say "my bad" or something similar in chat, I don't need to also be harassed by the guy that I'm quite literally expected to die for.

Tl;Dr supporting gets a bad rep for a reason, it sucks, but for some of the playerbase, myself included, it's almost literally the only thing we are good at. Don't treat your support like crap because they will just let you die alone if you keep doing it, and they won't feel the slightest bit of remorse. I will straight up ditch you to support mid lane, I don't even care.

Slave Knight2 votes

Okay, I was gonna do a long spew on how I felt about supports but in my mind, it was too complicated to explain so I'm gonna try to condense my thoughts.

  1. League of Legends is a team game where you win or lose as a team.
  2. The support is there to support the team, not carry. He/she will do all in his power to be the backbone the team and keep everyone alive and capable of fighting. He/she has an important role in the team, integral even, however ultimately they are there to be so and so 'carried'.
  3. There is a symbiotic relationship between the ADC and Support, if they cannot function together then bot lane will lose together.
  4. Any blaming done a teammate unjustified (he was not inting his ass off) deserves to be called out alone and not stereotyped.
  5. As long as the support has done enough (warding, exhausting, buying good items, landing the occasional cc) he has passed as a good teammate. I'm not sure if this is the same criteria in which ADC players are marked on however as their role literally revolves around being the carry - the one who sieges the hardest and annihilates everyone from the backline, whilst fewer things to worry about than the support it is a much harder goal to achieve consistently.

P.S - Unfortunately, it's an almost reality that ADCs generally have a more 'toxic' player base (especially toxic towards their supports) because it stems from a profession that revolves around being 'the best'. Whilst it gives them a bad rep in terms of attitude, I still will respect them for the level of skill required to play their role at a consistently good level.

BIAKaboose1 votes

I mean, I never disagreed that ADC was hard, I've played this game for 5 years and still can't get the hang of it even at low MMR, trust me, I know how hard it is.

I was just giving my opinion on my experience of being a support player and having to deal with being the lowest person on the totem pole in nearly every situation, and in my opinion I would rather play ADC, and fail spectacularly mind you, than play as a support with a toxic ADC. At least if I fail horribly at ADC I deserve a little bit of crap from the team, but I've had games with over 50 wards placed where the ADC says "GG, we lost because the support never warded" before promptly disconnecting from the post-game chat, and I don't do the passive aggressive support thing where you spam out 20 sightstone wards as you lose, I want to know my actual stats more than you do. ADC is harder to pull off, but supports have to juggle a dozen extra tasks on top of being the ultimate scapegoat any time that something goes wrong.

It's kind of irrelevant but the mentality of most ADCs towards the support is the exact reason I haven't played a Summoner's Rift game in almost a month (Give or take about 2 weeks, I have no grasp of time honestly) and swapped over to playing HotS instead.

Slave Knight1 votes

Fair enough, your experiences may vary with mine. I've played support as an off role more than I've played ADC as an off role and I feel the only time I got flamed was when we were playing with a genuinely toxic/overly competitive person or a FOTM player. ADC, on the other hand, is harder to for me to describe. It's like if the team is winning without me, they will hold off on the insults but the moment things start to tip all eyes will be on me. Either way, Top lane is much more relaxing to play haha. I can just focus on my match up and maybe the occasional 1v2 or 1v3 but that's it.

kirbyzama1 votes

Basically what you are saying is that as a support main you see a lot of toxic adcs cause you are always the support. But I play mainly adc (and top lane recently) and so i don't see many toxic adcs usually. I do see toxic supports. Supports who engage fights with no summs and low health and spam ping jungle or adc like they were supposed to fight something so lopsided. Supports that are just as much to blame for bot being lost but just abandons the adc bot (against fed dravens and vaynes) to go to other lanes only to steal exp and die in lanes that were winning before. I once had a support leave bot lane and call me shit for not getting the double kill after he died to get me a kill, that I even thanked him for it. Supports that don't ward but get credit for the jungler who is. And the whole time they type about how hard it is to be a support and how toxic everyone is when literally no said anything to them. But guess what? That is just my experience which isn't the objective reality. Its simply the way it seems for someone playing the opposite role.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason man

If you said that about say someone's race or gender most would say you are being bigoted and spreading lies. Its no different here. Too many people assume their adc's are going to be toxic and treat the whole player base as if they are which is blatantly hypocritical particularly coming from support players who should know what it feels like to get that kind of shit.

BIAKaboose1 votes

I mean sure, but stereotypes stem from truth or perceived truth as a base in most situations.

Does talking about it enforce and provoke the stereotype? Probably, but the entire post is opinion based, and I gave mine. In the last what... 4 years now, most of the playerbase has devolved into simply not talking, of the ones that remain that do talk there is an overwhelming difference between those who are kind and courteous, and those who would insult you before they'd even look at you. It isn't role exclusive, but even when I mained top lane (Seasons probably, 2 through about 4? It's been a long time and my grasp of time flow is pretty bad) my experience was that ADCs, and to a degree mid-laners were the ones usually throwing around blame and throwing tantrums when they didn't get their way (See; "What the f*** why didn't you give me blue buff, useless jungler GG). I have since seen the experience of top lane outside of being top lane and it's honestly pretty bad sometimes too, but my experience with other supports is almost exclusively positive barring a few outliers.

Call it a stereotype, call it a stigma, call it confirmation bias, reality is most often a matter of perception of the individual. You play ADC so you don't see the bad of it (barring /all chat rage spam) and more recently I've been a support player and it's the same for me. All I expect from people on my team is for them to play the game and at least try to have some fun, the only difference is that when the ADC rages I'm less surprised than if it was someone else, that's my reality, nothing more, nothing less.

A large portion of it though is probably due to the fact that ADCs and Supports are supposed to co-ordinate more heavily than other roles for the majority of the game, so when there is a volatile member of the combo it comes forward much easier. That's just speculation though.

kirbyzama1 votes

so when there is a volatile member of the combo it comes forward much easier.

Basically this was the point of me bringing up my experience with some supports as an adc. But the larger point I was trying to make was not to make judgments based on this bias. I when I was playing a lot of riven I was flamed by people like every third game simply for playing riven. This was regardless of if I was talking in chat or silent. It was independent of if I was doing well or not. These biases that "All riven mains are toxic" or "All adc's are children" serves only to make it easier for people to bully them. Like I said in the post I have seen more than a few supports abandon their lane for the tiniest reasons like the adc saying "could you buy a pink?" But that is just one toxic player being toxic. The problem is saying "all ___ are ___" is when the stereotypical victim of abuse (supports, junglers) are the abusers people will find it easier to side with them against the perceived abusers (adc, mids etc). This isn't a problem if you truly go into game simply expecting everyone to do their job, but coming into game with the idea "this person is playing vayne so if they ping me for what ever reason I'm just going top cause they are obviously toxic" is in itself as petty as ?pinging and can be more damaging to the game for other people. And I'm not saying this to be accusatory. I'm bringing it up to say that these biases serve only to let people prejudge people and have socially acceptable victims.

Dream High2 votes

I've noticed bot laners are usually too greedy, if they're winning lane they play too aggressively and die to easily avoidable ganks. If they're losing lane they're too afraid to give up a tower and end up dying and losing the tower. After months of the 4/5 man fiesta in bot. I don't know why adc/support mains aren't paranoid about getting ganked.

kirbyzama1 votes

It can be kinda hard to be passive bot lane cause its harder to set up a good freeze. I've seen some good supports that are very good at breaking them (and a few good at protecting them to be fair). Also since there are 2 players, if one plays aggressive the other player can feel peer pressured often into it as well. I personally adopted the style of playing as passively as the more passive player in the lane or if you have communication find a happy middle ground.

9Wly9oMl022 votes

Yeah, the shittiest thing about ADC is how dependent you are on your team. Laning phase is, for the majority, decided by who has the support main vs the autofill dude playing Fizz because he wanted mid. After laning phase, it's about whose team is actually going to peel for them.

ADC is the one role I refuse to play if I get any choice in the matter. If I get autofilled and no one wants to trade I'll try my best, but otherwise, I'm staying the hell out of it. I'm not really sure what it is that makes me hate it though. It isn't the fact that a bad lane partener can screw me, I like playing support just fine. It isn't the feeling of needing to carry, my favorite champion in the game is a hypercarry. I don't know what it is about the role, but I don't like it. If anyone else wants it and can do it well, mad respect, but leave me out of it, lol.

ADC is truly an ass role to play in soloqueue. I've been trying to climb as an ADC main and I'll say this: Its hard as fuck. Soloqueue teams don't believe in picking peel or for the team in the least and it often times does end up with a bunch of damage and no tanks. :/ Which is honestly ass as an ADC because you have so little control over what happens.

Just for an example: The team has no tank and you're the AD. You see that we have no tank or CC but there's nothing you can do because you're the ADC. Picking the high ranged, squishy damage dealer is your role and your only choice. Not like the top laner who locked in Yasuo or like the Jungler who locked in Kha'Zix. :/ Or even the support who looked at the fact that the team currently consisted of Yasuo, Kha'zix, and Ahri and said,"Yeah, this looks like a good game to play Veigar/Zyra/Some Bursty Mid Lane Mage Support with no CC." The ADC can literally do nothing as their team selects champions that provide no peel or safety for them. All they can do is pick the safest ADC they can and make do. Which means Ezreal, Cait, Lucian, or Tristana.

ADC is honestly awful to play and it hasn't really gotten better the better I got either. Honestly, feels like it gets worse the higher elo I go because the junglers you go up against are always in your lane.

BIAKaboose1 votes

I actually straight up pick Veigar support for his crazy stun though lol

Like, it is one of the few stuns that actually stops a dash instead of just ticking down the stun timer while they keep travelling, pretty good for dealing with Lucian if you know how to place it. I'm super friggin rusty though

10 fps1 votes

To me, the worst part about playing ADC is having to lane with someone else. As an ADC, if your lane partner is bad, you lose so much unless the enemy botlane is worse. Just having a bad support can put you behind. Every game I have a support who always makes lane harder than it's supposed to be. And it's even worse because of autofill. I've had teemo supports, tryndamere supports who just split push all game, supports who just pick whatever champion and try to build whatever said champion normally builds on a support's gold income. It's really frustrating and tiring to have to 1v2 every game.
