The Redmercy Effect

Over the years there has been a constant effect which I like to call "The Redmercy Effect". It goes like this:

  1. Some Challenger player decides to keep up the climb with some off meta shit like Ziggs botlane or Singed with 4 Dark Seals
  2. The new tactic diffuses into Diamond
  3. Some Youtuber (Usually Redmercy) will make a video "NEW ZIGGS BOTLANE OP?!?" "4 DARK SEALS ON SINGED IN CHALLENGER?!?"
  4. The new tactic suddenly becomes "meta" 5.** This tactic diffuses into lower ELO all the way down to Bronze because Bronzies, attempting to climb, keep turning to Youtube. They will fail because they lack game knowledge and can't pull it off**
  5. Bronzies will now suffer further by all the "Meta Huggers" playing it incorrectly. A Meta Hugger is one who changes their champ pool to the champs that are considered OP at the time
  6. **There is now a massive rift where the new tactic is insanely weak and will fail in lower ELO and much too strong in higher ELO. **
  7. Rito sees the numbers and upon further inspection, Cthulhu swoops down from the heavens and replaces them with bonobos.
  8. **Rito says on boards they won't change it but it will somehow fall out of favor, and will be replaced with a new meta replacing the older one. **

I would say it's closer to "The Youtuber Effect" since it's not like Redmercy is alone or seemingly more impactful than the other big hitters. Anklespankin, Phylol, Nightblue3, Brofresco, Magikarpusedfly, etc. can all have a huge influence on the meta.

For example, all of those guys made various videos detailing what "hidden OP" champs there were for URF. And then URF was absolutely flooded with those same champs.

I'm not blaming those guys, but I am saying that a startlingly large amount of players get their information on the current meta of the game from them first. Whether that's a good or bad thing is a whole different argument entirely.

But Gbay said Camille wasnt OP so she must be perfectly fine! We should totally trust an Irelia one trick because Camille totally isnt just Irelia on steroids. He has absolutely no bias and nothing to gain at all!

checks his stats

2nd highest champion played: Camille

3rd highest champion played: Yasuo

Yeah but most of the time its Redmercy who is going to be comign out with it. I respect Phylol and Ankle

If you use a NB3, Brofresco, or Magikarp build youre basiaclly just trolling

The lack od tldr is ok but can you edit down the douche by like 30% so it's easier to sift through?

isnt that more like trick2g?

as far as i remember he was always the one who popped up with weird off meta builds that shouldnt work, but still carried.

like ap tryndamere was his spawn, if i remember correctly. i might be wrong with this one, but wasnt he the one who started proxy singed aswell?

AP Tryn was a no-name League player (don't remember the name) who gained notoriety because he hit diamond+, much like Druiddroid (who I knew personally and admitted he was actually terrible at the game) with Proxy Singed.

Many of the other 'odd' builds were from Voyboy in the past. Tank Karma top (original Karma), Tank Kat, Tank Akali (back in the day), Lee top, etc etc.

Ah Redmercy. The LeagueTuber who has OP/Broken in 80% of his vids.
