What the honest fuck are you supposed to do about Katarina?

I was just in a game against Kat as mid and here are two things that happened.

  1. I trade with her at level 6 and she uses her ult. It ends with both of us at 20% HP and her ult on cooldown ofc. Then she immediately roams bottom without even going to base to heal, and she gets a double kill.

  2. In a teamfight I predicted when she would ult and threw Kass Q at her. Doesn't matter, my ADC dies before Q lands.

The main counter to Kat is not having stupid people on your team. She's not really that good if people are aware she exists and will get resets if they stay and fight when low.

This tends to mean she's amazingly good in low elo games.

I'm not sure what you were hoping Kass Q would do about that. He hasn't silenced with Q for quite some time now.

It sounds to me like your bottom lane wasn't good, and I don't really think Katarina was the reason you won or lost. They would have screwed things up just as reliably against say Ahri or Zed or something.

Kass q still interrupts channels like kat ult

If you're confused, I honestly suggest playing as Katarina for a few games. You'll get a feel for how her kit works, and you'll see how other players react against Katarina.

It's really the easiest way to learn counter-play; play the champion yourself.

I know exactly what her skills do. Look at the scenarios I cited and tell me what I can do about that.

redniwediS2 votes

There's a difference between knowing what her skills say and knowing how they feel when in use.

If you want specifics you'll also have to tell us what champion you were using. I typically put a bruiser up against her like Wukong or Garen, as they can absorb her burst while dealing their own.

Khristophoros1 votes

You can't make her use her skills on the bruisers. She just shunpos to whoever she wants and kills them.

Kassadin can interrupt her ult, but it doesn't matter. I target her with Q before she even shunpos, so it will go immediately when she shunpos. Even then she kills the ADC before Q lands.

Picking a bruiser also won't stop her from roaming bot. Like what are you even saying?

Buy wards. If she's roaming bot or top, let your teammates know. And if they decide not to buy wards and get ganked by her, then, well there's nothing more you can due unless you have a cc heavy team.

My bot lane had wards up but it didn't matter apparently.

What I'm saying is you can freeze lane and deny her farm. If you keep her mid and minimize her farm by the time she starts roaming your other lanes stand a good chance at either killing her or escaping.

Katarina won't be able to dislodge you from mid lane, so if you ward well and follow if she attempts anything in another lane you should be able to set her behind easily enough. Post laning phase fully depends on your team and not you, but since that's how it is against all assassins and carries that's something you should be able to figure out on your own.

It's not that hard to beat her, you simply have to take the time to try new things, or listen to people when they suggest something you haven't thought of.

What do you not understand about the scenarios I posted?

She goes bot with 20% health and no ultimate at level 6, and she has no kills yet. She then gets a double kill. I don't understand how you can just say "oh ward for them and warn them", if any balanced champion just roams at 20% without their ult they just die because it's insanely stupid to do that.

But ok your advice is to go mid and absolutely crush her so she's down -50 CS and feeding... Ok so basically you're saying if I'm a lot better than them (they're bad) I can stop them from getting fed off my team. Good advice, just hope the player sucks!

You're purposely misreading my words. Please stop or don't reply to me.

You pick a champion who is naturally good against her, and even if she's good the gap in skill is much closer for it. You don't ward and warn, you ward against the jungler and follow her to punish her a bit more for leaving lane.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

Why don't you show me a video of either scenario happening, first? Didn't happen to save the replays, did you?

Oh well, doesn't matter. I'd probably use it to criticize the mistakes made by either you or your team.

The first sounds like an assassin properly planning a gank in bot lane. Between the time to walk to bot lane and her passive's CD reduction, it's not surprising that she could pull off a double kill, especially if she teamed up with her jungler on that gank. You didn't make any mistakes, except for possibly not calling MIA; bot lane should have wards to watch out for ganks.

The second sounds like she jumped on a target who was about to die regardless of her ultimate, because there's no way that having the vast majority of her kit's damage negated didn't affect her. She just chose to jump on someone who was overextended for their low HP. Again, not your fault, as you were apparently playing Kassadin, who does not have the means to shove an assassin off of vulnerable allies.

Without an actual replay, the best I can say is that it's not your fault, and there was nothing you could have done in either of those situations aside from playing an entirely different champion. So long as you didn't feed Katarina, the problem is more likely your teammates' mistakes.

Well i always target katarina in a team fight, because if you don't she'll get a penta in 5 seconds. She also can damage up to 3 people at a time with her ult.

If your adc died before you Q, he was pretty low.

full health. died to EW and 1-2 ticks of R.

Once she's fed, there's not a whole lot you really can do. Don't let her get there.

Too many feast-or-famine champs in this game...

I'd have to agree with DropFill. I've been at 20% as Kass before and my Q has saved me. your ADC was likely SUPER low, or doesn't know when to back off. When I'm bot and a Kat goes MIA at early game, I IMMEDIATELY back off. period.

Kass has 15% magic reduction and his Q shields him. Ofc you can survive Kat. The issue is OTHER people feed her no matter what.

Any kind of crowd control destroys her. Save your CC for when she jumps at you and then disable her. After that, she becomes bacon bits.

The loss was because your bot were 2 stupid fuck who deserve painful deaths. We all run into teams we can't carry some time in our lives man, I feel you.

Miku Lv991 votes

Thing about kat is she snowballs really hard. You must harass her well early game and do not let her get ahead of where she should be. If she gets ahead, expect her to soon be so far ahead that she can just wreck your whole team if she is not stopped almost immediately upon using her ult. So really, the main thing is to know about where she should be at each point in the game if nothing goes wrong where she gets fed. Every time you lose against her, go back to the first place in that game where she got ahead of where she should be, and make a change to your strategy there.

Flicckur1 votes

Please understand that if your bot truly knew what they were doing, the double kill WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED! PERIOD! She couldn't dive them under turret with 20% hp, it just seems like your bot was bad. Just because someone wards, does not mean they pay attention to the map, and how it sounds, if you didnt have your ulti before she did or get it when she did, you let her harass you too much without fighting back, meaning she was able to out farm you.
