Three things which would fix Illaoi (no stat nerfs)

The main problem with her is how inescapable she is if she lands that one E. It gives her huge lane advantage as you have to juggle farming, killing the tents, not getting killed by Illaoi and not getting killed by her tents.

To fix this:

  1. Leaving the zone ends the curse, instead of resulting in tents spawning.
  2. Tents take one hit to kill at all times (including her ult). Alternatively, as someone else has suggested, the tents spawned during her ult take one hit to kill, whilst all others take two as normal.
  3. Tents supply more gold (10g?) when killed.

The solves the issue of not being able to escape. Leaving the zone surrenders some lane advantage to Illaoi at a cost of ending the curse.

If tents do spawn, one hit should be enough to kill them. They don't need to take AOE damage like Heimer's turrets, but the point is that if you're going to attack a tent, you're going to get rid of it. Requiring two hits takes just a little bit too much time and gives Illaoi a huge advantage.

Finally, the 5g you get from killing tents just isn't enough. If your spirit is taken, the amount of farm you surrender whilst dealing with it, is huge. This would soften the blow slightly.

These changes would allow all her stats to be left as they are, whilst giving the opponent a bit more counter play. As it stands, the only counter play someone has is "dodge her E".

Technically three would be a stat nerf.

To get things out of the way, I want to be clear that I agree with you, at least mostly, but I still want to criticize some points that can still be improved:

  1. Yeah, basically.
  2. This however could probably easily lead to dumpstering her. Maybe the tentacles spawned by her ultimate have 1 hp, but tentacles spawned naturally retain the normal 2?
  3. The tentacles shouldn't offer more gold than a normal minion. Remember, her natural counters will be able to kill tentacles and minions. While we should be a little more forgiving towards the champions that she counters but are able to kill her tentacles, too much gold would simply make her lows far too low. 10 gold, for example, would probably be closer to the mark.

My biggest problem with her is the fact that turrets don't auto attack and kill the tentacles. Every champion who has a unit that's created and has HP is attacked when near turrets Annie Heimerdinger Malzahar Zyra. And I even think Yorick Shaco 's also get theirs destroyed by the turret.

With just how long you have them spawning if you get hit by that soul taking ability, and the fact that even turrets can't protect you is just to broken imo.

  1. no this is entirely fine as it is now. (Before you try the Illaoi Main excuse look at my match history cus wrong approach)

  2. no other unit outside zyras has a hits to die hp bar they have actually hp that must be eaten through. Which is why turrets fo no aggro them just like towers ignore wards.

  3. harder to kill dpawned units are only worth 5g so again no. Also i lose next to no farm killing these unless i screwed up and got low hp.

Her entire kit is counterplayed by movinh. She is slow and her ukt is melee range. Her E when it hits is still not that big a problem.

If your argumentis that the omly counter play is dodge E (which is wrong there is more) then by that argument we should gut thresh and blitz whose hook skillshots get you killed atleast 75% of the time! (They do not need gutting btw)

She is actually quite balanced in her current state. I honestly think she's one of the most balanced champions on release that Riot has made so far.

You want to counter Illaoi in lane? So far I've noticed one of her absolute strongest counters is Nasus. Nasus can out-sustain her with his own lifesteal and Grasp of the Undying, Wither makes it so she can't apply damage with her autoattacks, and if she E's you as Nasus, you just Wither her, Spirit Fire and start bashing her.

Nasus can also both life steal and stack his Q off her tentacles, he can kill them in basically one shot because Siphoning Strike is a auto-attack reset, and she's basically giving him MORE Q stacks than normal considering how frequently her tentacles spawn.

Pantheon is also a good counter to Illaoi, so is Jax and Irelia.

I've also noticed some top champoins that do VERY poorly versus Illaoi, such as; Gangplank, Malphite, Gnar and Riven.

tl;dr - Counters to Illaoi; Nasus, Pantheon, Jax, Irelia (more, but these seem to be her hardest)

Illaoi Counters; Gangplank, Malphite, Gnar & Riven.
