I'll say it: I'm glad URF evolved a meta

There are several threads on the forums that complain about the order that has come to the chaos of URF. People keep seeing the same champions, but that's somewhat their own fault for perpetuating it. There are several champions outside the top ten most played URF champions that are fantastic at URF just like playing outside the top ten in normals is perfectly reasonable. For some reason, I'm still the only player that I've seen use Azir on URF for example despite him being quite possibly the best at that mode (basic gameplay advice: survive till level 2, then kill everything in sight).

I'm glad people fell into the "tryhard" category. Honestly, I prefer my opponents to actually be trying to kill me.

But maybe it's just me.

It's not a meta, it's just the herd mentality of League players in action. For instance I strongly suspect that having a jungle is better than having two duo lanes just like in standard games, especially with the crazy smite timer reduction, but the herd follows it doesn't think for itself.

Having a jungler is good if you have a champ who can just power clear no matter what. Morg, Maokai, or Zyra can power clear without fail while your Yi gets a million devourer stacks.

I don't mind if people want to pick Zed or Fizz or Hecarim or whoever is OP in URF, being OP is fun and I've done it myself. What gets irritating is when I keep seeing the same champs on the enemy team almost literally every game, and when we ban those champs there's another group waiting to take their place every time they're banned.

(For me at least) it's not so much that the "meta" champs are really annoying to play against (they are and that is a part of it), it's more the lack of variety. I didn't get to play it last year so I missed that initial period of experimentation people keep talking about. I still have fun with URF, but the lack of variety now leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

On another note, URF Azir is absolutely evil and supremely oppressive and just about made me scream when I played against it, but I still loved every minute of it.
