Mastery Has its place. Reaching lvl 5 will make you suck less.

By the time you reach Level 5 I doubt you will suck. Take one champ and build it to level 5 and don't leave that champ until you do. You probably get batter at the position apart form it too.

nah people can play the same champ a shitload and still suck at them

people can play a position a shitload and still suck at it

it's not about simple practise and mechanical repetition; there's a lot of game knowledge that a lot of people don't learn or don't bother to learn that really holds them back as players. of course, a lot of people just play for fun or for visuals, but there are players out there who really sincerely want to improve but can't figure out what they're doing wrong or what they can do better.

Occams Raiser4 votes

If they lost every game it would take you over 80 games to get to level 5. I don't care what you say. You play 80 games with one character you won't suck.

That's not being bad at the champ, that's usually just being bad at the game in general.

No he said "doubts that they suck", which means be decent.

ok. I don't understand the context. Cause it doesn't counter anything I said. so I was hoping he would expand on the thought. Looks a little smug when you talk in jargon when everyone is talking normal.

Angry Monster2 votes

Actually it does counter what you are saying. To make that kind of statement you made to prove one thing leads to another instead of just assuming it does.

You are saying when you hit level 5 you doubt that they will suck on a champ. So you are saying that level 5 and not being bad lead to each other. An example that this no true is every bronze player in the game(this is not bashing). Bronze is the bottom 30% of the player base. If a player truly mastered their champ they would understand all aspects of the champ and rise to a plat + level. Their are plenty of bronze players that have 100s of games on a champ and are still bronze.

so your statement not being bad has nothing to be level 5 with a champ. Correlation != Causation

Are you saying you don't play any better at a certain champion even after playing 10 games as it?

Human does learn.

Better does not mean good. you can still suck while getting better. Also people makes the same mistakes over and over again until something in their reasoning changes how they see a problem. 10 games is really not enough to see what you are doing wrong and to figure out how to correct it(without help).

A thread about how the mastery system may improve playing some certain champions, not a thread about whether mastery system should only reward master level players..

MVDuneCats2 votes

The phrase "will make you" in the title implies causation. i.e. it's the act of reaching lvl 5 master that makes you suck less. It's actually just correlated. It's the practice that makes you suck less. It's also the practice that gets you to level 5 mastery.

A causes B. A causes C. B and C are correlated. But B does not cause C.

Correlation != Causation

In fact, reaching lvl5 requires one to play 15 to 30 games.

We expect players to take 15-30 games to level through the first set of levels (1 through 5). We’ll be unlocking additional levels later.

Practice makes perfect isn't really difficult to understand. This is reasonably a causation. By the way, if you lose most of the game, it takes forever to reach rank 5. I assume 10 games is far enough to grab the basis of any champion.

Rank 5 is merely the temporary maximum level. When the system expands, it surely becomes impossible to reach higher without actually playing decently.

Edit: Seeing people downvoting me, I am convinced that people don't understand the difference between "mastering" and "improving".

I didn't know you could be the master after grabbing the basis. Learn to read.

If you cannot play better at a certain champion at all after playing so many games as it, that's your problem.

Occams Raiser3 votes

ugh. Internet people. Lose all sense of respect when you hit the keyboard. I will never understand the phenomenon.

Any bronze 5 player that gets any level on a champ is still a bronze 5 player. It does not matter if they get level 100 when it comes out or not. The only true masters are the mains at diamond + level. This is just something people can look at without real substance. If people actually mastered a champ that would rise with that champ.

Pros are on another level. People who are good in street ball don't have to say they suck just cause they can't make it in the NBA. I don't like all the shaming that goes on in this game environment. I am a grown man with kids. My GOOD is different that a 20 year old that started playing pro from his room in his parents house. Things might have been different if I was born to this generation. There wasn't any such thing as esports when I was kid cause there was no internet. You can be good in bronze and silver. I see many of the same shit ass plays in the high tiers.

Angry Monster1 votes

You can be good in bronze and silver.

if you were skillful you raise to a higher elo. Your division is not some magical hell that your lock away in. Those that are good get raised up and those that are not sink down. Your skill with the champs you play is partly reflected in the the rank you own.

Its not shaming, so you need to get over your self. If your bad at the game, you are then bronze on the ladder, this is fact and not questionable. If you play at the bottom 30% of the rank ladder then how can you be skillful since you would rise? I am not bashing bronze players but they are bronze for a reason.

Your problem is that you keep mixing words together like good and skillful. You may make be good since good is subjective term but that does not make you skillful. True mastery is not about being good its about being skillful. Rank is also not about being good it about showing your skill. And yes your rank does say something about you, it showing a where you are in compression to others. It is time to accept it.

Man i miss the season 2 system so much when it comes to these threads. Everyone understood their number and realized that it represented them in the game.

Occams Raiser1 votes

You are welcome to hold this belief if you want. Imagine if you put one silver 5 in support in a diamond game but don't tell anyone. How long do you think it will take the diamonds to realize his level just because of his game play? Do this a hundred times and see if the can tell before 20 minutes. This is an example of course. I realize that it would be the same in other lanes where there is one on one action of course. I'm just saying that a lot of this game has to do with repetition and knowledge. It is like being good at pokemon. The fact that this game is the one that won the popularity lottery doesn't take away from its simplicity. In solo queue you have an assortment of player types that actively try to lose. I'm not talking about trolls either. Have you ever heard "the best villain is the one that thinks he's the good guy"?

I might have asked you this before but, SHOW me the guy that has played this game for one season and is Challenger. You don't see it cause this game is about time spent playing as it is execution. Everyone can always be better. Playing makes you better unless you are mentally challenged in some capacity.

The divide between the bottom tiers and the top is so ridiculous that there should be an different rule system for them. The champs should be different.

Ease of access is the reason why Esports will never be mainstream I think. Maybe in a hundred years. The fact that you can play the same game as the pros and have delusions of grandeur about your level of dedication is what makes people compare themselves to a standard they never really wanted to aspire to. People should be talking about premade teams not solo queue. If you had a team it could be like league night at the bowling alley. You can still be good though you don't roll 300 That is what handicaps are for anyway. All this bronze sucks stuff is just because anyone can play it. If you took out all the casuals I bet you would see some good games. There are good, better, best, and prodigy level. I haven't seen a prodigy at LOL yet. Just a bunch of 20 year old pros with several 1000s of hours under their belt. After committing that much time to something, I would kill myself if I wasn't awesome.

If this was a real sport you would have to test to get into ranked play so please don't talk like Bronze is shit cause that is merely a catch all. the difference between gold and platinum should be the same as the void between ranked play and unranked play.

Angry Monster1 votes

When sneaky from c9 claims that his league account he went to diamond in season 3 (challenger and masters did exist at that time). I do not follow the life story of everyone that is master + teir, so your request is a little stupid and you are asking for beyond the normal means.

Um so baseball, football, soccer, ect are all pro games that people play in school and aspire to get into at the pro level. Do high school kids play a different game than a pro? I admit the skill level and the intensity is on different levels but they are dreaming and developing towards that or they do not and stop after highschool.

Go get on ranked team then, if you want to talk premade and have that define you. The rank team metal will override your solo q one if higher. Though people that make teams are going to look at your current placcement in solo q and use that as a measure of your personal skill.

Um, i think your bitter and crazy at this point. A test to get into ladder play? Really? The way ladders work is self placing over time. (Now this directly at you) You are angry that you are not where you thought you were. You think you are better than what you are placed and people are holding you back. You are looking for anything to say hey i am special/good at this game. Its time for you to wake up and realize you are not that good, you are not that special.

They do play different games in high school and even college than the pros. In baseball they are just starting to talk about taking metal bats away so these kids hitting 400 stop getting fooled into thinking that they won't be hitting over 250 in the pros with a pro bat. If you look at American football, you can see college and high school kids playing very differently than the pros. That is why you see these lightweight fast kids go to pro and get wrecked and why you watch high school teams go for 2 instead of kicking extra points. Being a fast runner might get your team some points in college, it will get you broken bones and fumbles in the pros. These kind of sports are played largely different at different age groups and can't be compared to pro sports.

Of course it is all lame comparisons. Because video games aren't sports. They are for fun and if you are good at them then kudos to you but let's not pretend that you are george jetson clicking buttons for your job or being fast at pointing and clicking a mouse makes you the next peyton manning.

I don't follow it either. You would think it would be a bigger deal and you would know about it.

baseball, football, soccer,

There are different rules in some these sports between the pro and amateurs. Imagine if a 15 year old could get on tv and play in the pros. it would be a joke. That is all I am saying. If he was bad on the other hand people would say "Who let this kid in here to waste everyone's time?".

Um, i think your bitter and crazy at this point.

"You types" say this so much, probably projecting how you felt when you were bronze, that you think it applies to everyone. Every thing is relative thanks to MMR. I could stay in bronze forever if I never got trolled or had to play with some douche that said "it's just a game, man". I know it is a game.

Mastery doesn't have its place. Winning 15 games against bronze opponents means less than winning 15 against challenger, but they're both rewarded the same number of points either way.

Occams Raiser2 votes

If everything is relative, so are the points. If you were bronze and beat a plat you would deserve more points.

Occams Raiser3 votes

SexyTaylorSwift1 votes

They could have done cool things with this, like making you have to be like mastery level 3 to play the champ in ranked. Less trollos = less toxicity.

Occams Raiser2 votes

That would be awesome but they would have needed to have given retro points. And it is pretty grindy to get 16 champs to level five. MIND YOU!, I would do it if it meant getting the casual players that make things toxic out of Rankend.

SexyTaylorSwift2 votes

Yes, but they could have even made it 3 and not 5. They could also do it during the off-season, since ranked doesn't really matter during that time anyway. But, they won't. They don't do anything that improves competitiveness of ranked. The only thing they are worried about is banning people that call trolls trolls.

Occams Raiser1 votes

They say 1% of the player base is toxic. That is a lot of people and I think it is more than that. It is quite an insurmountable task to punish them all without an automated system. They couldn't keep up with the cases before. They would need a dedicated team to handle the Tribunal. It would be a new career field but who wants that job. IT would get old quick. I reviewed less than a thousand cases when the TRI was up. I didn't know why it wasn't automated or why the people reviewing cases weren't picked at random to actually reside in mass over cases. When I first got into the tribunal I thought that is what it was for.
