PSA on what a Thresh is.

Ahem Hi,

I'm CheftoniFTW, Thresh support main for 2 years now. (Granted, I'm a casual player, but over 150 games on him alone.)

I am here to tell you of the glory that is Thresh. A lot of people seem to be misinformed on a lot of Thresh's capabilities, but I am here to set the record straight in hopes to make not only MY life easier but my fellow Thresh brethren's lives as well.

This is Thresh. Thresh He is usually played in the support role but sometimes I bring him mid lane for cheese. He is what some of you may call "a playmaker".

What is a playmaker? A playmaker is one who can setup beautiful plays so that all the little ADCs can have their fill on killing champions and taking all the credit. You may have noticed that manly hook he carries with him. Well, that is his weapon of choice! Now, some of you fit in the melee category and some fit in the ranged category. Thresh, however, is the rebel who doesn't play by the rules and goes mid-way. What does that mean? A nightmaree for when you build relic shield, and a godsend if you want to harass the enemy (especially with that sweet sweet passive).

His Q I bring up the hook because of his infamous ability that makes him stand out from the other wannabe playmakers (I'm looking at you, Blitzcrank). It can be thrown! However, it can be quite difficult to land, seeing as my main man Thresh has to wind up this ability before casting it. Giving the enemy some time to react, making this a rather difficult skill to land (See Blitzcrank who gives the enemy a split-second to react as opposed to a good second or two). When the Hook lands, He pulls the enemy, allowing you (The ADC, the one who does all the damage and who takes all the money) to start clicking that mouse of yours on the one who is hooked! (It helps if you have the "Oppressor" mastery which grants you 2.5% MORE damage to the enemy. FOR FREE! ) You may have also noticed that landing this ability stops the hooked enemy from attacking! This also allows Thresh to move the hooked enemy for about 3 seconds. Afterwards, it is up to the Thresh player whether or not he will follow-up with the second part of his ability, which allows him to sweep toward the hooked target. This is a very useful tool for escapes. Imagine Thresh running away from a group of 5 enemy champions who are chasing poor Thresh down mid lane, whatever shall he do! Well, he can hook the Raptors allowing him an escape! (If the enemy follows you by flashing, you can flash over the wall again, granting you even more distance!)

His W (His most important ability) "What?! His W is more important than his hook! Blasphemy! How does that help me get kills?!" I hear some of you cry. No, his W allows him to use the second item on his person! (That's right! TWO!) You see, Thresh carries a lantern that can be used in 2 ways! Imagine yourself, the brave ADCTristana who felt the sudden rush of wanting to jump right into the enemy's lap, under their tower, because they were half health, and you are level 3. Clearly you can take 'em with your Doran's Blade and trusty boots! But Oh! Oh! You've had eyes bigger than your stomach! Turns out that Braum IS a threat after all! Good thing you have your buddy Thresh! When you see Thresh throwing his lantern on the ground, hover your mouse over it. You may have noticed your mouse cursor changing shape! That must mean something! Well, if you right-click it, you will zoom directly to Thresh, where he is most likely sitting far away from the enemy, with just enough mana to throw the lantern at you, hoping in vain that you know what the lantern signifies. This lantern is your life saver!

HOWEVER

This is NOT the lantern's only function! "What?! It does more?!" Yes! The lantern also brings up a magic shield that helps you NOT DIE. So, when you see a lantern at your feet, you need to ask yourself these questions:

  1. Are we fighting enemies? If yes, is Thresh anywhere near me? And if so, does he have mana to do anything other than lantern? If this fits, click the lantern. If not, then he is giving you an extra buff so you don't die during your trade, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME CLICKING ON THE LANTERN! If you click on the lantern while in the middle of a fight, the enemy has had enough time to land 2 auto-attacks on you. THIS IS NOT, I repeat, NOT AN ADVANTAGE

  2. Are we defending an objective? Are we fighting Dragon? Is Thresh TANKING Dragon? If the answer to this is Yes, DO NOT CLICK THE LANTERN. You might have just cost Thresh his life endangering him. Because he is tanking dragon. Do not take away his only method of mitigating the damage.

  3. Can I simply walk or escape the danger chasing me? And if so, am I alone? Is someone else trying to escape death? Do I perchance have my own method of escaping? Caitlyn Fizz Gnar Ezreal Khazix Leblanc LeeSin Tristana Vi Tristana Tristana Tristana Maybe if that is the case, you should let your teammates take the lantern. Because remember, there is no I in team! Thresh is looking out for everyone! Not just you, Mr. GodHelpYouIfYouTouchaSingleMinion.

His E This ability also uses the hook we talked about earlier! Thresh can flay his enemy in a direction of his choice. Sometimes he pushes them toward you, giving you ample time to land a few auto-attacks seeing as the enemy is most likely busy fighting off Thresh if he close enough to land this ability. However, it can also be used defensively! Thresh can push away his enemies so that you can run away to safety.

His R Thresh's ultimate is a tad lack-luster, but it makes up in utility over it's presentation. Thresh has a box. More like a pentagon, but I digress. This box has walls that hurt AS WELL as slow whoever touches said walls. This ability can also be used in one of 2 ways. It can be used to trap enemies, either stopping their movements or forcing them to flash. Or it can be used to help an escape, especially in the jungle where it is hard to avoid the walls, forcing the enemy to back off or slow them to the point of being unable to catch up to you.

Hopefully, I can set straight what Thresh can do and what he is probably doing.

Night, y'all!

Dunno bout you matey but thresh is the wannabe playmaker copying off of blitz

Blitz is the ultimate wannabe playmaker, all he has to do is land a single ability and the target is essentially dead. Thresh at least takes skill. I find Blitz to be super cheap. :/
