Do you really want solo carry potential?

JoeAnarchy··21 votes·9,043 views

Ok, so i hear alot of people say "my team sucks, i want to be able to carry a game by myself" and trust me, i completely understand your team sucking and keeping you down, but lets say your whole team sucks, but you are able to carry hard.. but that also means your opponents can each carry hard, and if they can carry harder than your team, then you being able to solo carry wont matter, and literally nothing will change.

People aren't asking to be able to 1v9 the game, just that the game needs more opportunities for players to carry their teammates.

Split pushing has been nerfed into the ground.

Defensive options have been getting better with each passing season than they were in season 4.

And laning phase lasts only 10 minutes now so the cs difference shouldn't be too big, and the weaker laner doesn't have to worry about getting solo killed or losing their tower too much cause now everyone is roaming instead of just the junglers.

But that at least means, in an ideal world, that they were better and deserved it. I remember lots of games when I first started when I would split push to victory. When the enemy would try in turn, I'd see it coming because my map awareness and other macro knowledge was better. I wouldn't mind going back to that time, I think it was season 4.

Except the enemy team gets so far ahead to the point where it's 17/3 at fucking 12 minutes.

exactly.. in a meta where the game is "solo carry potential" then thats gonna happen more often and be more prevalent.. just because YOU can solo carry, doesn't mean your team can.. but it does mean that all 5 of your opponents can..

WoodenCreature2 votes

Because these days if u are not a smurf from challenger it's so hard to climb under plat and it's just a coinflip. u cant do actual climbing if the game doesnt allow u. This is a combination between bad system that MMR is, god awful meta that lasts soo fucking long and games are decided in champ select 90% of the games. Snowballing is so easy now 2 kills for the enemy adc and your chances are no longer 50/50 they are 70/30 now most games end in 15-20 mins. So a solo carry potential is needed because u are just not able to climb if u are not really insane player. A casual player is just stuck in the elo the plaments drop you.

Boards users are asking for more solo carry potential, but potential is here. Boards users are just not good enough to use it well. Or not better than their enemies. A lot of boards users seriously believe they're playing amazing or whatever, but in reality they're in plat/gold/silver/whatever elo because they belong here. Im a player who hovers between plat and gold, and you know what? Carry potential is here, but i know im not good enough to utilize it in 95% of the games.

Gesterr2 votes

This movement for more "solo carry potential" is seriously just the age old "I'm in elo hell" threads from long ago but with makeup on to trick people into thinking it's credible. The game shouldn't ever be about winning your lane matchup and mindlessly smashing the enemy team, but about roaming and spreading your lead early and often to press your advantage across the map which is easy to do with weaker towers if your botlane, rift herald threat and usage if you're a toplaner, and just constant ganking into any objective pressure as a strong mid or jungler but people just want to run down their 0/3 lane opponent and make that one guy 0/6 instead of doing any of that.

Hayaishi2 votes

Problem is the jungle is unbalanced. If any lane loses ( and by lose i mean not going 1/11 to Jax top lane) without jungle pressure you can carry them. Problem is when the enemy jungler outjungles yours. It becomes impossible to carry.

Any role can be carried if it loses early game except the jungle.

I at least wont a chance at being able to solo carry, its at least better then the rng of a better team. If the other team gets ahead its mostly my fault for letting them this is someone who plays jungle a lot and adc too. If they play better then they deserve the win if I play better and some of my teamates do to then we deserve it, and if i solo carry i deserve it. What i dont like is the fact that you need a certain champion to solo carry, thats really problamatic because its who ever chooses the better champ rather then the better player.

but even if you play better than the enemy team, if all 5 members of the enemy team are playing better than the other 4 members of your team, you're still gonna lose.. if each one of your opponents all have more solo carry potential, then you having it means nothing. its still a coinflip on if your teamates are gonna be good or not..

Shablagoo1 votes

And if you need a team that is good either way then its still a coin flip, in fact even more, because there is still the possibility that I can still carry against 5, I am not saying that I am that good normally if at least one other play is competent on you team you both can win. But in some cases people can 1v9 which stills allows them to solo carry. And if you can't then the other team was better at carrying or you faced a geniunely faced a good team. You see at least there is the fact that I have impact on games, the fact that I can make my own outcome, that it isnt completely rng, obviously there is some but you can still carry. Thats what people want the ability to, then they have no excuses.

I want teamwork and strategy to be the most important factors from beginning to end, with snowball potential being greatly minimized to help skill and knowledge play a larger role than luck and abusing the high chance of players tilting and giving up after falling behind in the overly snowball centric current game state.

Silver and Gold league is mainly about "luck" - not skill. Unless you're premade with someone you know he's good - you're playing with 4 other random people. If you're lucky - you end-up with the good randoms who play their mains and understand counter-picks. Or with smurfs. If you're unlucky you end-up with the randoms who "try a champ in rank for the first time" - or players who pick a champs "just because" ignoring or lacking understanding of counter-pick. That or some unranked beginners - who played mainly aram and with bots - but since match-making they end-up in your team and go 0 - 9 by min 10 (which is obviously not their fault - cause they're beginners).

Supposedly in Diamond 1 and above everyone knows what they're doing - so skill and team play is what matters the most.

Don't forget no one seems to understand basic needs of a good team comp. Things like engage potential, disengage potential, etc. I see people picking Lee Sin top, Master Yi jungle, etc. into comps with champs like Brand, Illaoi, Heimerdinger, etc. i.e. champs you NEED a way to engage on then hold still long enough to not get blown to kingdom come by their ults or if they gank you (less applicable to heim, I know) from behind/the side you need to be able to get away from without throwing someone to the wolves.

it sucks winning lane 90% of the time but still losing the game 50% of the time because other lanes lose

right.. so the enemies that won those lanes, would win even harder if they also have solo carry potential.. it works both ways..

if Riot gives YOU solo carry potential, that means they are giving EVERYONE solo carry potential.. basically noone can solo carry, if everyone can..

0DESTROYERZ01 votes

id be fine with that. also if they made a way to give solo carry potential, that doesnt mean 1v5ing lmao

some champs will always stick out but i dont understand why promoting solo carry potential in team based strategy game if anything it should by lowered. But if this is a case i want dmg and range and hp doubled on Sona i too deserve be solo carry :)

Obviously. You can't make it a team oriented and team based if more than half idea won't know what they're doing. It's what majority of people wanted, to carry easier or get carried easier.

Dark Royalty1 votes

I think its better now cuz you get the gold if a fed enemy dies to you, its a 1000 gold bounty that you dont have to share with your team. I think this makes solo carrying easier if u are shuting down the enemy team alot.

Alex h87211 votes

And if you have a pyke on your team they will last hit every enemy w/ a bounty while playing pretty safe, be like 12-5 toward the end of the game and be like "haha im so fed but my team is trash"

mack91121 votes

We are all each other's teammates so if we all try to carry hard I don't see a problem.

woodvsmurph1 votes

Yes... and no.

Does your team have a bad game, but they're playing smart and losing gracefully? You can win out harder, play smarter than their whole team and solo carry the game. Or you can solo carry your teammates back to relevance, building them advantages when they were behind and then win as team.

Does your team intentionally feed (forgot... most players and employees deny that exists) and troll to ensure they lose? Then yeah, you probably can't snowball yourself harder than your team intentionally throws and snowballs their opponents. Especially if the enemy team is smart and realizes that... whoever is laning against you just needs to not feed their butt off and the jungler realizes all he has to do to win is help keep you in check and the game is free.

That's still a better chance to win based off my good play regardless of my team than if there's no solo carry potential. Solo carry potential from multiple roles and classes of champs is what makes the game fun. There's healthy solo carry potential and then there's unhealthy... the kind where you go I'm playing champion Q and I have these items now or this many kills, so I can literally 1v5 your team and you can do nothing about it. I don't think anyone but Q mains want that kind of solo carry potential. But the other kind... hell yeah.

That's not the issue.

The issue is that some champions are just dog shit compared to other champions so a lead is irrelevant.

I had a game a few weeks ago where I went 4/0/5 mid as Morgana. The enemy Annie was 0/4. IT DIDN'T MATTER. She slammed her face on the keyboard and it still instantly killed my ADC when he was out of position.

The damage is so high right now that even if you're behind some champions will instantly kill you. A 4/0/5 Morgana doesn't instantly kill anyone but supports. She doesn't do enough damage.

I really wish I could stop having my entire team 1 shot by burst champions who are bad players. Same game there was an enemy rengar. He was like 1`/3 in jungle. Didn't matter. He still did enough damage to instantly kill my teammates. It's just dumb.

Had another game. Friend went 15/5 as AP shaco top. Enemy Fiora was 3/5. 3/5 Fiora is just stronger than 15/5 AP shaco late game.

I can understand some champions will do more damage than other champions, but when certain champions do so much damage that they will melt anyone regardless of how behind they are it is absolutely stupid.

Automated Riven1 votes

Wait wat? Morgana completely nullifies enemies. As well as having some of the highest base damage and ratios in the game. Morgana can 100-0 anyone squishy with q I tick of R and pool underneath.

Also if your 4-0 and Annie is 0-4 she won't be 100-0ing anyone. I have played a ton of Annie and if she doesn't have a 2 level +item lead she isn't 100-0ing anyone till 2+ items.

Morgana Excellus1 votes

Her Ult has a moderate CD. She isn't going to 100-0 anyone without ult.

A 0/4 Annie can definitely 100-0 someone... I guess you're saying I wasn't actually in that game. My bad bro clearly you were there and I wasn't.

Drugoth1 votes

The fact of the matter is that this is a team game. Sure it would be nice to have the skills of Faker or something and have the power to solo carry games.

But I would argue that a better goal would be to increase your leadership skills, learn how to recognize your teams strengths and weaknesses, and build a strategy plan that suits your team. Then enact that plan by calling some plays. Once you have successfully called some good shots, your teammates will naturally listen to future ones. This idea all hinges on your first shot calls to be on point and successful. If your first shot call isn't successful, you will lose the good faith of your teammates and might not be given the opportunity to lead again.

Phoneixflare1 votes

The way I see it is if one person has carry potential and the other team has carry potential on an individual, then it is up to each one, individually, to play better or carry harder for their team. I would much rather have that considering I have trolls/feeders constantly in my games. If you think nothing will change then you didnt play a few seasons ago where climbing if you were good individually was pretty easy because you had more singular impact on the game.

Automated Riven1 votes

You can solo carry. If your team pull their pants up for 2 seconds.

haaaaaaalp1 votes

They want something similar to earlier seasons where the game was more about which team had the best player as opposed to which team didn't have the worst player. The change obviously won't fix everything, it will just make things better than they are now.

Rain NT1 votes

In plat diamond there's actually no way of solo carrying unless you are super far ahead and your team isn't all feeding or the other team doesn't have multiple fed players. Like if you're gonna solo carry you team would need half a bread just for 10mins when you're prime in that game to solo carry
