It's worked in the past. He functions as a semi-tank semi-initiator that easily rends armor with item 3071 due to the DoT on his Q applying it every mini-tick.

He also has 7 less health growth a level than Alistar and higher armor growth, so he doesn't need items as much as other supports.

Why would you pick him over Ali though? Your lane would be even worse than Alistars considering a lack of a heal and he can't engage. The best you can do is literally running at them. Good luck getting to Ashe/Janna that way.

He also would be a lot less tanky considering he doesn't have Alistar's ultimate's damage reduction.

Anyone in the game can support, but Udyr offers no supporting benefits to your adc besides a stun. People in the lobby would probably call you a troll as well.
