I can already hear the "Noob Level" players....

With the uncapped levels, there is going to be an even more annoying form of player hate that will sound like "You're only level 60? You're such a noob at this game, don't talk to me until you're level 100".

We all know this is going to happen because it already happens with "Ranked Hate". People talking down to other players that are a lower rank than themselves, except now it will be them hating on people of a lower level.

Another thing that tells me this is going to happen is the fact that "Level Hate" already exists in the game. If you're level 30 and playing with anyone that isn't level 30, you automatically dismiss them as garbage because they haven't played the game long enough to reach 30 yet so you "gg we lost" before the game even starts.

Now people will be like "I'm level 80 with level 50 noobs on my team, Riot fix this broken system!"

I'm already annoyed just thinking about this coming........

Don't get me wrong, I want the uncapped levels. I just don't want THIS to come with it.

I don't think anyone that is a sane individual will pay that much attention to levels above 30. Level 30 is where you unlock everything(masteries,all queues etc.). People that are under level 30 will still be looked down from others that are, but I don't think this will carry on from above 30 levels, since they are basically bonus levels.

At 1st nobody will care because everyone will still be around the same level for a few months. After that is when the "Noob Level" players will make their rise. The more of a gap between their level and a teammate's level, the more they will complain about that player. Eventually, about a year down the line the "I'm level 80 with level 50 noobs on my team, Riot fix this broken system!" will occur making this even more annoying.

Just my thoughts about how this will unfold after years of playing with and observing the community.

I think it will be treated sort of like amount of wins. Someone has 50 wins in this season, someone has 200 and still in X division, but nobody really cares. Just says about how much time you put into this game, nothing else.

I don't see this happening because it doesn't happen in overwatch. The only real time it happens is when someone gets put with a fresh level 25 unranked player doing their first matches. The level 25 player gets bitched about for losing the game for his team, which is honestly pretty true most of the time.

That doesn't mean Overwatch isn't toxic at all. Seriously, the only time I've seen levels get brought up are in regards to the example I already stated. There are still a good number of angry young adults/teens who scream at teammates for one reason or another and rant about how they are the best in the game, but I never, in about 100h of playing the game, have seen anyone rant about someone's level.

Again, this is the League community, we are famous for being one of the biggest toxic cesspools in the gaming community. This is not outside the realm of possibility for us.

Also the only reason Overwatch isn't more toxic than League is because it's $60, so permas tend to stick. Regardless of Overwatch though, I've never run into level shaming in Dota 2, which is vastly more toxic than League from my experience and is also a free to play MOBA.

Chances are, if someone yells at you for levels after this change they were going to yell at you regardless.

It doesn't happen in Overwatch because levels reset after reaching a milestone (what was it, 50 levels?) in that game.

Of course there are those multicolored stars showing the number of resets a player had, but barely anybody can tell them apart or know what they mean.

Plus you can get dozens of level ups in a matter of days.

it's 100, and even then i never seen anyone talk shit about another cause of their levels. If i did it was people telling players that have higher levels than them that they have no life but thats about it.

Yeah, but high school kids like their little gamer ranks so they want people to feel special. There's this constant push for that culture on League, that sort of mindless wank that doesn't go anywhere. Just more numbers, more bells and whistles-- even the new honor system is basically just a popularity contest. Amidst high schoolers, so that's a good one.

In reality, the playerbase will fuck up anything they add. They'll find a way to pull the worst out of it; League's playerbase is, surely, well-accomplished in that regard.

(Also, wow, Heroes of the Storm implements that and now League has to. Crazy how that works!)

I only wonder how the rankeds will work. Do you need a certain level or you are good to go right from level 1?

If you mean "What level do we start playing ranked now?" It was confirmed to still be level 30.

HotS has uncapped levels, too, and I've never heard of anyone caring.

I am interested in knowing if we will get more levels by playing more champions, though, which is what HotS does.

You are right! There is two options:

  1. Players will be matched like 50-60 level in one game or 90-100 and that is kind of a ok, or even 45-50 50-55.. so let those levels play together OR
  2. Exactly what you said, which would be disaster!

Honestly I don't think #1 will happen because everyone plays at their own pace. There are streamers and ex-LCS players that play LoL religiously still, matching players based on a level range with anything past 30 will cause major wait time issues trying to find people.

I can kindda back that statement up with Metal Gear Online 2. In MGO2's non-custom games you had to wait to play with players up to so many levels above/below your current level, which caused a lot of wait times even though the game was extremely popular before it eventually got shut down.
