I see the last tank items update as more of a anti-tank update...

Its like, they nerfed the tankiness of tanks but buffed their damage. Why? Seriously, they're tanks for fucksake they aren't supposed to deal damage. Heck, I don't get why a lot of tanks get %health damage, shouldn't CC and base damages be enough? Like I get you want diversity but can't tanks just build AD/AP? It seems kind of stupid to me to be giving tanks all this damage capability.

These changes help bruisers more than they do tanks.

Bruisers typically balance damage and defense, whilst tanks build pure defense.

item 3110 item 3075 item 3001 item 3068 These are typical tank items. Some of them have gotten nerfs.

item 3748 item 3742 item 3071 item 3053 These are bruiser items.

Then why do I see everyone from Olaf, to Sion, to Tahm Kench building them?

Elkington IV1 votes

Tahm deals a ton of damage for how tanky he gets. However, he's not stomping games so he's fine I guess?

Olaf is a bruiser/fighter that has to build tank items if he wants to be useful since he has no mobility.

Sion is a special case. He benefits the most from pure tank items, but his passive is near useless unless he builds some damage. He's still nothing like a Garen or Darius that can faceroll without help from teammates. If he prioritizes things like item 3071, unless it's late game he will die quickly to focus and most 1v1 situations since he's not a duelist. Unlike most tanks, Sion starts out very squishy because he's supposed to farm to build up his Soul Furnace. He's the easiest to deal with out of the three you mentioned since he's very fragile early game.

True, but in any case you still admit he's dealing damage. And even if he doesn't rush Black Cleaver he can still go for Dead Man's Plate, or Sterak's Gage, or Titanic Hydra. Black Cleaver just makes their damage that much greater even for their teammates and even if they don't deal fighter like damage they can still deal a lot of damage for how tanky they are and how much CC they have and I find that's pretty bull crap.

If we made tanks a lot more durable, but lowered their damage, I think they'd be in a much better state

Shroom Junkie2 votes

Exactly what I'm saying.

Is it bad that I think it should be a waste of time to try to kill a full-build tank without 5 man focus

Shroom Junkie1 votes

No, no it isn't. But unfortunately we have all these guys with 5000 health hopping in and dealing the damage of a level 9-ish ADC by full build for some reason.

Tanks nuking people?

U Wot M8

Shroom Junkie1 votes

Yeah but at least he can't nuke until like 20-30 minutes. And the only reason he's a tank nuking people is because its the most efficient, if he didn't build tank he'd still be able to burst but better. The only difference is the sustained damage rather than the burst is better so full AD usually isn't worth it.

He's not specifically made as a tank(besides his ult), that's just what he became.

What tanks are you talking about then?

Shroom Junkie1 votes

Not just tanks but tank items. Chogath Olaf Volibear Sejuani Zac Gnar Gragas Galio JarvanIV Skarner Sion Shyvana Shen TahmKench Trundle Udyr

I'd bring up Garen but he's more of a super-tanky fighter assassin thing... not much CC or whatnot involved.

Granted some of those are more like fighters than tanks(specifically Udyr and Trundle) but still, they're tanky and have damage, and the worst part is most of them have mobility(Voli, Sej, Gnar, Zac, Gragas, Jarvan, Shyvana, Shen)

And then there are the items item 3053 item 3748 item 3742 item 3068 item 3116 And with Titanic Hydra you can just stack health and do more and more damage, heck, it makes item 3083 a damage item, especially on Tahm where you just build tons of health and Titanic Hydra and do buttloads of damage.

A lot of the champions you listed aren't considered tanks but fighters

Shroom Junkie1 votes

Yeah, and that's the sad part. Cho'gath? Tank with a bunch of CC and damage. Olaf? Okay, him I get, he's just majorly tanky and does damage, no real CC or anything besides his Q slow spam. Volibear? Super tanky, even has some CC with his slow and pull. Sejuani has AOE maxhealth%, same with Zac, Gnar has tons of CC and tons of base damage + %maxhealth every THREE hits, plus he's ranged for the most part until he goes mega and can unleash his AOE CC ult, Gragas who has a little bit of %maxhealth damage, plus base damage, and a fair amount of CC plus a tank steroid for a few seconds, Galio who can build MR and do damage for it, Jarvan with CC and crazy good target pick, mostly just scales off of items and his bit of base damage, Skarner who I'm pretty sure everyone knows is pretty bull crap, Sion who has good base damage, plus armor pen., plus a bunch of AOE CC, Shyvana with her tons of %health damage and stickyness, especially with Sated Devourer, Shen with his %bonushealth damage passive and good base damage Q, plus his W which makes his passive more common and E for CC and more sustain and he has an almost global presence with his ult(assuming a teammate is near where he wants to go), Tahm with his slow, stun, devour, and %maxhealth damage on hit, Trundle I admit is pretty fighter like but he still has his pillar which is annoying as fuck, and same with Udyr and his stun.

Granted a lot of them don't have much mobility besides speed boosts, but there are also a lot with. And to be so tanky and do so much damage WHILE having CC... its just... disgusting.

not sure how to respond

on one hand it would be nice to actually feel tanky without having dumb ass % damage reduction

on the other, i can't think of a single tank who doesn't do damage, and there are several champions who are designed entirely around "be tanky, do damage"
