ARURF Needs to be URF again

Gamer Life··97 votes·19,609 views

We have the 10 system ban now some champs can be banned and people can play what they want. Atm its just so boring and unfair yet if people can choose who they want to play then it comes fair as you have chosen that champ and you have chosen a champ to ban as well. Riot refuse to listen.

I think another reson they wont change it back is because they would have to undo all the stuff they did to change it to random URF

Lmao, clearly you don't know what you're talking about.

It is extremely easy to revert the changes from ARURF to vanilla URF. With RIOT's amount of employees, that's not a problem.

HebiKuroha's reason of "RIOT doesn't care about their playerbase and having fun sadly" is the the absolute truth, they want money, not happiness. That's how all companies work. If happiness of the customer gets you more money, companies will try to make the customer happy.

I just explained it to you mate. If you cant understand it or cant get past your own naive then that not my problem

Also, grammar isn't affected by dyslexia, you don't have to see the words to know what you're typing.

ShaolinToilet3 votes

He's from euw why are you making a big deal about grammar on a forum?

Yaosuo1 votes

Just because he's from EUW doesn't mean he shouldn't know how to form a coherent sentence. I judge age based off of how people "talk" on the forums, age has a direct correlation to maturity and the basic understanding of common sense. I will argue differently with someone who "talks" like a 30-year-old than someone who "talks" like they're 8.

Not all languages are structured the same as English is. English not being his primary language should not stop him from making a post here.

ScrewLuck1 votes

Who the fuck cares about grammar lol. If you want to attack people then maybe change your username so it doesnt remind people of Yasuo

Yaosuo1 votes

not everyone cares about grammar but it shows your incompetence to form a coherent sentence. I chose Yaosuo because my last name is Yao and I thought it would be a nice play on words. And I'm not even attacking him, I'm just pointing out the flaws in his argument, if he can't take someone on the internet saying something like "your grammar is bad" then he shouldn't be playing a game like League of Legends with a highly toxic player base.

and goddamn it i know i'm posting on this thread 15 days late.

that is the way but. There people out there will just hand over money because they like xyz but if people would learn that compnay need customer to stay in busness.

Yaosuo7 votes

"Get past your own naive" Clearly, you don't know how to use proper grammar and companies need customers to stay in business but you're still playing League of Legends even though you aren't satisfied with the game.

They just said that for urf in general, including arurf. They told us that statistic to show why it isn't a permanent game mode, not to show why they swapped to all random

Spank the Fox3 votes

ARURF had a significantly less amount of people quit though and Riot said they’re still experimenting methods to make it so people don’t quit after it’s all over, hence the Snowday variation existing.

HàrrowR3 votes

Ironic,i deleted the game when after playing a couple of games of ARURF,i just realized that my last 50-60 games were all ARAM or ARURF,its obviously a sign i got bored with the game since i don't even care what champ i'll play, for some reason though i can't leave boards lol

BakedLotion1 votes

really don't know how a game mode can make people quit.

if that's the case, all games should stop doing events altogether lmfao

And go back at facing constantly shaco/fizz/ekko/hecarim/jax/fiora/wukong/zed? I mean sure rng is not that good of a choice but at least it makes the matchmode less stale. Or at least theoretically.

there a 10 ban system now! Back then we didnt have that it changes it up

Nyarlathοtep6 votes

First of all, its not 10. Its 5. The enemy might ban the same champs as your team. 2nd of all, there is also still a chance you might have a wannabe "im cool with everything so i wont ban at all". And lastly but not least, its not enough. I ban zed, there is still a shaco or a fizz, etc unbanned. Banning is not an option considering the raw numbers of oppressive champs.

BakedLotion1 votes

You're acting like you don't see an oppressive champion every game in ARURF anyway.

And instead of being able to choose someone half decent to deal with them, you get Udyr.

Nyarlathοtep1 votes

Of course you will. What im trying to say is that bringing back bans and removing the randomness will do jack shit in the overall fun of the urf.

BakedLotion1 votes

You get to choose what you want to play. If I wanted my fun to be decided by a random generator I would play aram

Nyarlathοtep1 votes

Oh sorry man. My bad that i dont have fun playing against fizz or zed because they are just too much even by urf standards.

BakedLotion1 votes

oh sorry didn't know you couldn't specifically ban who you hate

There isn't anything broken enough that will stop you from having fun besides zed/fizz/jax unless you're petty as fuck.

All I hear from you is that you're mad you don't always win because the enemy picked better champs than you, and you want to pick shit like Udyr and Aatrox. Might as well stop playing normals then, since Graves and Xin Zhao are so broken rn!

Nyarlathοtep

1st of all, i can only ban a single champ. 2nd of all, in urf there are a shittons of SS-tier champs in oppressiveness. 3rd, have you forgotten or something? We are talking about urf. Not normals.

BakedLotion1 votes

Same concept. You can only ban one champion in normals. How many overpowered champions are there right now in normals?

Do you really think nobody else is going to ban Zed+Fizz+Jax?

Nyarlathοtep

Do you even understand what im saying? You are talking about normals and im talking about urf.

BakedLotion1 votes

lol if you can't draw a comparison between what were talking about then I don't think it's worth talking to you.

Nyarlathοtep

But the comparison is useless since in normals, jax is not a pain in the arse (until late at the very least). Zed has counterplay, albeit an unfun one, shaco and fizz are a big annoyance. Urf=/= normal.

BakedLotion1 votes

once again u proved that you can't comprehend what i'm saying.

read my comments again

when did i say those champions are annoyances in normals? I'm saying there are overpowered champs in normals just like there are in urf, and you only have one ban. Same concept. Does that mean normals should turn into all random also?

the official statement by riot: https://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/2017/12/ask-riot-urf/

URF launched a long time ago, way before we ever started doing RGM. It was basically a crazy April Fool’s gag that ended up becoming hugely popular. Given how popular it is, lots of players want to know why we don’t bring back regular URF more often. There’s one reason that we haven’t really talked about before now:

URF makes some people stop playing League.

Every time we ran regular URF, we’d see a huge spike of games being played, and then the numbers actually dropped back down to a level that’s lower than it was just before we ran URF.

It’s normal for new players to join League and for some longtime players to leave—this happens all the time. But when we turned on regular URF, it was different. In NA, for example, whenever we ran URF we’d usually see over twice as many longtime players leave the game compared to what we would’ve normally expected.

In other words, some people binged on URF, and then suddenly stopped playing League. And the size of the dropoff indicates that it’s not just people coming back for URF and then leaving afterwards. Despite spending a lot of time investigating the reasons, we aren’t actually sure whether URF causes some sort of “hangover” effect or if it makes regular games feel slow by comparison—maybe it’s because URF feels like playing League with cheats turned on. Regardless, after we turn on URF, total games played go down, as do overall game hours. And they don’t recover for a long time, if ever.

We’ve been trying to wrap our heads around a way to solve this problem for a while, and that’s one of the biggest reasons you see us experimenting with variations on the mode like ARURF and Snow Battle ARURF. Although these modes still suffer a bit from the “binge-then-churn” effect that regular URF has, it’s not nearly as bad (probably because you’re not seeing the same OP champs every game).

URF causes some people to stop playing League, but a lot of you really love it. So instead of killing URF altogether, we’re just gonna keep experimenting to find some healthier version of the mode. Tell us your thoughts about Snow Battle ARURF—we’ll listen and apply what we learn to ARURF’s next appearance.

To answer some questions in this threat: Riot doesn't do URF because it causes players to quit. They've tried it twice and had permanently lowered player count within 2 weeks afterward.

I don't have the data in front of me, so I can't vouch for its authenticity. But if we assume it's correct then it'd be financial suicide to bring vanilla URF back. I love regular URF btw, so don't misconstrue this for pushing my Anti-URF agenda. I want it back, but it's just never gonna happen.

If you all want to read a bit more in-depth into it, where more particular questions are answered, here's a link to the reddit page where Rioters (Specifically Cactopus) talk about it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/7lcnle/ask_riot_urf/

For an easy to digest number, Riot Cactopus claims that the number of permanently leaving players doubles immediately after URF ends. Again. Financial suicide.

Cavesloth2 votes

They made a false conclusion based on the data, then using their bias they devised an experiment and got the conclusion they expected.

Real URF was only around once in a blue moon, so OF COURSE people binged the shit out of it and got burnt out on league altogether. ARURF wasn't as fun, so people didn't binge. If they were to have URF around on a regular basis, people wouldn't binge and get burnt out.

Sadly riot isn't smart enough to figure this out.

EkyonKun5 votes

Even if what you're saying is completely right, this quote kind of shows they'd rather not risk it.

"I had that exact same "binge" hypothesis many years ago, and we tried running URF twice quickly back-to-back in succession when RGM first launched. We saw an even worse effect on the second run than the first. There's always a possibility that "it just needed more time to normalise, it wasn't enough!", but we felt there were better design alternatives than an existential game of chicken."

If after you perform action A twice you lose players twice, but performing action B does not, it only makes tactical sense to perform action B and not action A. And as they said, they'd rather not play chicken with their playerbase. Losing customers is the absolute worst thing you can do as a business. It's just not worth the risk to them.

Original urf is cancerous and unfun by any one playing off urf meta

FirewaterDM5 votes

Trades yes, but keep ARURF.

Regular URF is boring, yes sometimes you get fucked with a garbage comp, BUT still more fun than seeing the same 10-15 champs every game bans or not
