PSA: Blue Buff grants 15% bonus to Ability Power as of Patch 6.9

DiveAlive··46 votes·3,933 views

Im super salty about how many people still dont know this.

This is not directed at junglers, just anyone who simply was unaware.

So please, consider this when debating who should get the blue buff late game.

E.g. pre 6.9 It gave 36 ap late game, and now can easily grant well over 100 ap depending on current ap.

P.s. Its things like this that are the reason ap items generally have less ap now.

It's really worth giving the blue to your AP midlaner now, even if they are manaless like kat or akali +15% AP is a big deal especially late game.

Those 15% more AP stack up great with infernal dragons, I've had one game as Fizz where I got almost 1100 AP because of 3 infernals (+24%AP/AD and blue +15%) at that point the blue was giving like 120 AP or something which is alot.

Consider giving away your blue buff guys or get it for yourself if you're an AP carry jungler and have nobody worthy to give it to

As a player who mained and still plays a lot of akali: pretty much everyone except energy champion mains doesn't realize how amazing blue buff is on energy champs, especially kennen and akali, both of whom stack AP and appreciate the bonus 6 energy per second which will basically make them resourceless in most fights.

Seriously, I'd go so far as to say blue buff is better on akali than it is on your standard mana using midlaner, and MUCH better on akali than some jungler.

Just for the record, Dragon does NOT increase the AP from blue buff

It works like this

Base AP + Base AP x Rabadons bonus + Base AP x Dragon bonus + Base ap x Blue buff bonus.

Its still a fuckton of AP, they just stack additively rather than multiplicatively

So in the end, if you have 3 internals (no elder), rabadons and blue you currently have 74% bonus AP, instead of the "myth" of them being multiplicative which would be ~92% bonus AP

Red Buff heals your health.

when you smite?

Miss Luxanna2 votes

No, out of combat Red Buff heals much like a Warmogs.

Verdade1 votes

only in late-game tho

Blumpkin Nation1 votes

Untrue. A Trundle on the enemy team was healing 21 health per second while he had red buff. It was ridiculous. We couldn't kill him because he'd just run away and heal all his health up. He was only level 7. T__T so ridic.

what? I never knew this... I never took blue as mid cause I never had issues in-lane without blue, but I guess this is more incentive for me to take it.

xWaters4 votes

Wow. No idea it did this! Will probably start giving it a lot earlier to my mid laner now. After a certain point in time I just tell them to go for blues whenever they are up.

How did so many people not know this? Smh.

Not everyone reads the patch notes aparently

Yeah, this is important info. I'd like Riot to update their New Player Guide and include this in their description of the Blue Sentinel, but my threads never get noticed.

Obviously the AP Rengar should get it

Great, just what we needed. Yet another reason for people to bitch at their jungler for not being "given" blue buff.

Hey guy, I am jungle Diana, and i fucking carry twice as hard as you in mid step off the blue!

To be fair, mid getting blue buff helps with wave manipulation and mid lane priority. Which in turn gives more freedom to the jungler. Freedom to invade the enemy jungle are your mid laner can colapse first, and freedom from being invaded (unless you are really far behind) because again, if the enemy jungler tries something, its gona be a 1v2.

And ofc, it also requires your mid laner to not be totally destroyed by the enemy mid laner.

side note: mid Diana main here, and I love blue buffs <3

AD or tank jungler refusing to donate blue buff to their midlaner after this change should get reported for actively aiding enemy team.

Sad Tyrant2 votes

at least after their first clear and the midlaner (Which has to be an AP based champ) is not dying all the time

obviously

Sad Tyrant1 votes

Just clarifying for those who take it the wrong way

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Damn better tell those stupid lcs players the midlaner HAS to be an AP based champion otherwise they shouldn't give him blue.... Oh wait if you look closely even Zeds get the blue.

Sad Tyrant1 votes

This doesn't apply to LCS cause they are better than you or me and they know what they are doing.

Also Yeah in the early game it is effective on Zed but in the late game its usually better to give to the main AP champ

Edit: maybe I should reword my First comment as it seems to not entirely convey my message

CDR + xp and gold means a lot for a jungler.

More than mregen and extra ap on a champion who likely needs to push with abilities?

Honestly not that many people (in my elo) knew that blue buff even gave AP before 6.9. Still not any different now...

In fairness, that's partly because the AP it gave was completely negligible.

15%?

I had exactly 1000 AP with full build and level 18, got blue buff and it didn't even push me over 1100. Was at like 1080 +/- 10.

Oh, I see. Bonus? Meaning it stacks multiplicatively with Rabadon's passive.

So yeah, it grants whooping 5.25% AP.

It's not gonna increase the total ap u have after deathcap, just before deathcap.

so 15% of 750 would be 112 ap, but I highly suspect some of that was from baron or infernal drag, so its working as intended.

Verdade1 votes

it just doesn't scale with Rabadon's bonus AP, exactly as you said.

It it stacked with them Veigar would have like 1500 AP in my average game with him. That would kill carries with just the W.

Lugg1 votes

The jungler should give every blue after the first to either top or mid considering which one is AP. The only time the jungler should take the ones after the first is if he/she is AP and top/bot are AD.

HorseProofBacon1 votes

Whichever lane that is going to demand blue needs to give up several of their lanes minions to the jungler to compensate for the loss of xp. It's only fair.

LordKentravyon1 votes

And yet i will still see top tank yasuo's stealing it from me -_-
