We haven't announced it yet I don't think, there'll be a regular rune though that grants both some % MS from game start and some other stuff in the new system. Goal with it was to offer a replacement for MS quints for many of the current users.

oh thank goodness.
ive been running ms runes back since the double nerf to garens base ms and the 5% off his q.
if id make a wishlist for base stats adjustments for him, it would probably be 10 ad, 5 ms, and health/level.
edit.: scratch that. id take 20% crit.

actually are there going to be any crit runes?
i could see two ways to implement them. either do the "unlocked after 10 minutes" thing, or make a bounty hunter rune for 4% crit for each individual enemy champion killed.
or even combine both.
Pretty sure they said there won't be an equivalent to 1% crit rune. Crit in general might still exist though.
Critmaster is not talking about the 1% Crit cheese. That's why he mentioned the "unlocked after 10 minutes thing". He just wants some Runes to specialize heavily into Crit, as his pseudo gives off ;)
No current plans for crit runes, though a post 10 mins style one could certainly work if we need to replace something else with an AA damage slot at some point.
I mean...that's cool and all, but MS is good on every champion in the league. The new system is very restrictive compared to runes, if you want the MS at all you need to commit to the entire tree.
No, Meddler said "Regular Rune", not "Keystone". You can take it from your Secondary Tree.
Yes, but that's still being forced to take that tree as your secondary tree. As opposed to the current system, where literally anyone can opt into movement speed quints and movement speed in general is good on every single champion in the game.
I fail to see the difference between "being forced into a Path" and "being able to opt into a choice of Quints". Anyone can opt into movement speed through that secondary Path. Or can opt into Resolve and get early Armor, just as you could get Armor Quint before. You had a choice of what Quint you wanted, you now have a choice of what Secondary Path you want...
Let's be clear: they're condensing 10 lines of old Masteries + 4 types of Runes into 6 new Runes Reforged. That's 14 "choices" versus 6, so you won't be able to get just as many combinations, this is obvious. But most of the old "choices" were really not choices at all, with obvious right and wrong answers, and your choice of Quint was one of the few stuff that was actually interesting (and even then, not for all Champs), so this clearly should be reflected by choosing at least one of your Runes in the new system. If every of the 6 Runes we have to choose is as compelling a choice as old Quints were, that's clearly a win in my eyes.
And from what we've seen until now? We've got clear replacements for the old early defense vs scaling defense that most Yellow/Blue Runes set-up boils down to, we've got CDR options for Champs that really want to spec into it, and this thread here is promising us something about MS. My knowledge of exotic Rune set-ups isn't extensive, but from what I can tell, the only option we won't be offered in the new system is the "cheese Pages" with Full MPen or Full Crit Chance, and this is a GOOD thing. And maybe some weird Spell Vamp Quints for Singed or some off-meta Junglers? But in that case, Spell Vamp was just some convoluted way to get early sustain, and I would be surprised if we don't get a Rune about early sustain.
(Also the "14 versus 6 choices" bit might be a bit misleading. Some Runes will probably be replaced by Base Stats adjustments, especially the offensive ones.)
If you want move speed on the current system, you are forced into getting move speed quints in your rune page instead of AD/AP etc.
If you want move speed on the new system, you are forced into getting move speed instead of some other trait.
How is that different?
And? I fail to see the issue. Forcing specific stats into specific rune paths is how you gain the ability to alter the stats of all intended users of those paths.
All current champs that need MS quints will most likely want the tree that holds the MS bonus in the new runes.
Whereas everyone else who wants other things won't be able to tack MS on top of it instead they'll have to opt into the entire tree to get it.
That's like saying "everyone likes bonus damage, it shouldn't be restricted to the damage tree."
wait, we're losing those quints? I found them necessary in a few situations
Well....someone has been under a rock or ignoring the rune overhaul coming.
If I misspelled Mordekaiser on these Boards, I'd hide too.
It's possible you'll have some compensation within Minor Runes.
Or a similar compensation; Phreak mentioned that many champions would likely get base stat tweaks, specifically citing Singed and Syndra
Base stat changes for all champs is the plan. Different champs will get different changes though of course.
Universal MS and armour buffs, please.
+15 base, +20 passive MS. Please? XD
. . . Oh, and reduce Q cast time. (>_0)>
Q has a cast time? o.o
It's about a half second. But if you're trying to run/kite/chase, it's enough to cancel out the MS bonus you get from passive (if it hits a champion).
Not exactly game breaking. But if asking for arbitrary buffs. . .
That sounds like a good way to buff her when she's not causing any game health issues!
I just want to point out that you MAY want to look at buffing Base AD as compensation for "no +15 AD from runes" may potentially backfire in the long run. Adding +15 AD or whatever to champions like Irelia/Jax/Ezreal (basically anyone that buys a Sheen first item) will have a MUCH bigger impact than to someone like Kayn who has primarily Bonus AD ratios (as an example). I really just don't want to see Ezreal walk into lane and do 20+ more damage with his Sheen at level 5 solely because you "compensated" him for not being able to have as much AD at level 1.
Too lazy to find it, but I'm pretty sure that a rioter commented that the isn't a distinction between greater and lesser runes. It was on a runes post about the time that phreak uploaded that runes video
Yeah, we've moved to just Keystones and regular runes, removing the Greater/Lesser distinction. We concluded it wasn't ultimately being a useful difference and instead mainly just made people feel they had to always take a greater rune in their secondary tree even if that wasn't actually the correct call.
So there are only two tiers of runes now? That's unfortunate :/
Why?
Honestly, I can't really put it into words.
I think something about splitting between greater and lesser runes mean you have fewer options in each selection, which means more opportunity costs?
The thing is, you weren't restricted to only pick greater runes, so you always had the option to pick 2 lesser, so they removed it so ppl won't feel forced to pick greater just because it was called greater.
Yeah, it makes sense and it's understandable.
Noooo not my MS quints. Why can't they just remove masteries instead?
Why not both?
Oh, wait...
the rune im excitied to experiment with is actually overheal.
if the shield is based on a % of your health pool, it might be an amazing anti poke mechanic on garen, that scales well into lategame with his passive.
if it works how i think it does, it should allow to use garens passive to basically get a malphite shield (when you heal past max health) which should be incredibly valuable in lane.
Overheal Excess healing past your max health gets converted into a shield
it should definitely synergize with the new grasp.
if
health regeneration bonus also counts towards the rune, then it will probably be amazing.
overheal garen would fuck up my laning against him so hard omg
says "that's cute" to your
worries
I don't think zac would be much of a problem. His blobs heal him for I believe 8% of total hp, and his abilities cost 8% percent of his current hp, so once he hits full hp he won't be able to overheal, unless he has a healer on his team, or the % values were changed, in which you would be totally right. He can also buy spirit visage, but that would only increase his blobs healing by 1.6%
Keep in mind his health regen heals him before he picks up blobs, effectively yielding more health than he spent on his ability.
But that means that he's just depending on his health regen to shield... like... any other champion?
Health regen (such as garen's passive or mundo's R) don't show up in "healing done" in the post game screen from what i can recall, so it seems logical to me that those kinda things aren't treated as heals, hence garen's passive most likely wouldn't proc the overheal rune
I loved movement speed quints i went through a phase where i put them in every rune page i could
I went through that phase too. Though in my case for a fair while they were the only Quints I had admittedly...
That phase lasted me for my entire league career through diamond lol
I'm still not convinced they aren't the best quints for every role and every champion.
Nah m8 gold per 5 runes all the way
While I don't have them on every runepage, I do have a general runepage that has them.
My 1% crit is gone too ;-;
good....

I dont think movement speed is gunna be much of a problem. During rune reveals theyre showing some crazy runes that provide a ton of mobility such as:
