Would the Immortal's Hardened Shield still be broken for League?

EDIT: Shen's old shield analogy misleading; analogy removed.

For the unfamiliar, the Immortal is a Protoss unit from Starcraft 2 that, in previous incarnations, had a shield that reduced incoming damage to a maximum of 10 (provided the Immortal's shield was still up). This made it great against Siege Tanks and other slow, heavy hitters, but had little effect against fast attacking units like Zerglings or Marines.

Obviously in League, the numbers would be different. But would a Hardened Shield be broken in League?

Wait that doesn't sound right at all.

Flat reduction on hits sound like they are best designed to counter high speed light hitters.

No, if damage would deal more than 10 damage, it only deals 10. It's not a flat reduction, it's a cap to the max damage that can be taken.

So take Darius or Cho, Shen uses his feint right before they ult and instead of taking 1k true damage, he takes 10.

It's also highly abuse-able in games where it's not very meticulously controlled.

OH.

OP makes the comparison confusing with the very first line then:

A while back, Shen's Feint used to reduce damage by fixed amounts

He needs to fix this, because Shen's flat reduction is entirely different from what you are describing, and Garen over there came to the same conclusion as me.

I think he was just giving a hardened shield example that was removed for being too strong, and wondering if, with the proliferation of DOT effects one could be re-added.

But clearly it's misleading.

Three responses to this thread, me, Garen, and now Catastrop, all misread it and came to the same conclusion.

Yousosmart, if you're reading this, you really need to fix that.

Analogy removed since it isn't the same.

It wasn't a flat reduction; it was a flat cap. Doing 1 hit for 100 resulted in 10 damage done to the immortal. Doing 5 hits for 20 each resulted in 50 damage done to the immortal (5 x 10). So against smal ticks that add up like dots, you will end up with less relative reduction than single large hits.

Just gonna copy this since you didn't seem to bother reading any of the responses:

A while back, Shen's Feint used to reduce damage by fixed amounts, but this was changed to a regular shield due to how overpowered it made him. That said, I don't feel that a "Hardened Shield" effect would be completely broken now due to the abundance of DoT effects now in the game.

But am I wrong on that account? Would a Hardened Shield still be broken?

wouldnt flat damage reduction work better against several small damage ticks than large hits of burst damage? why is the existence of more dots a counter to this?

I admit my analogy was bad, so I removed it.

Here's how Hardened Shield works: Say an Immortal gets hit by an enemy Siege Tank for 50 damage. Due to Hardened Shield, that damage is reduced to 10. But if the Immortal has no shields left, it takes the full 50 damage.

Catastrop1 votes

That already exists. It's Amumu 's Tantrum except without the shield component.
