And as with so many things we become the last moba without a modern feature.

https://i.imgur.com/4Gbt2y0.jpg[/img] The game is a shallow husk compared to league but if all the other changes gets the population up to where there isn't a 5+ minute wait timer for games even at low ranks I might have to reconsider my time. Make all the excuses you want "oh ppl will say mean things" , "I don't care about my team", "I won't use this feature". But voice chat is the superior form of communication and even if only the bot lane uses it, it could improve the level of gameplay across the board.

Please riot crawl out of the stone age for once.

Eww for god sake no. The toxicity level in this game is high enough. First thing i did when i started playing overwatch was mute the voice chat. I REALLY don't want to hear 12 years old kids screaming at the top of their lungs.

Pings are all we need for communication.

Lie to yourself all you want, this community is no different than any other moba community. Dota did it and they are more successful than ever. Almost every multiplayer game made in the last 10 years has it and the sky has not fallen on any of them because of it. It is a completely optional choice but for those of us who actually enjoy team play this would be a godsend.

I have spent hundreds of hours in overwatch playing over a vast range of skill levels and with a vast number of pubs and premades and the toxicity in voice chat is one of the lowest in all of multiplayer gaming. You get exactly what you want out of it, if you are cordial and work with your team you will have very little. If you call out your teammates and sigh and moan every time something goes wrong you will get more.

But wanting the entire community to not have a modern day option for team play that has existed for 15+ years just because you wouldn't use it is very short sighted and harmful.

People are much more hesitant to be toxic in voice chat than in text.

A lot of ppl turn off voice chat which renders it useless as a built-in feature in a team game.

If even the botlane alone used it the level of gameplay would shoot up across the board. 2 out of 5 using voice chat is better than 0 out of 5. I can't even count how many times I could have saved someones life by warning them that they were stepping into a trap but a ping wasn't good enough, missing pings happen all the time and how often do you see people ignore them because they are busy trying to last hit or doing something else. A simple hey top laner I see jungler coming up to your lane to gank you could save millions of lives.

The people that would make good use of the feature will use it and rise and the people that don't can carry on their merry way. No one loses but a lot win.

So what if bot lane doesnt use it? Are you gonna post threads like "PSA BOT LANE PLZ USE VOICE CHAT" or flame them in game for not using it? Or what if you are playing adc or support and you get into a game and your lane partner doesn't want to use voice?

Than so be it, no one is forced to use it. It works perfectly fine in overwatch, dota, paladins, wow, counter strike, and the list goes on. Many people choose not to use it in those games and some prefer to only listen in and life goes on.

Avtually... No. It doesnt.

generally speaking; In HoTS you will never use the ingame chat because youre playing with friends. In DotA you will MUTE the russians and the people with terrible mics who make the static from poltergeist sound like the trans siberian orchestra. In Overwatch you will MUTE the team because of how toxic things get very quickly. and instead play on private comms with your premade. Paladins is console so eh. WoW you will mute everyone not on your raid team (which you will likely be using teamspeak for anyway). CS:GO you WILL mute everyone because of how toxic the tryhards get.

Honestly speaking built in voice chat is terrible in practice. A good idea on paper, but terrible in practice. Also, riot has no way to MODERATE it and would have to rely solely on player reports for it... Imagine being the odd one out on a premade. 2-3 reports and due to how riot cant moderate it properly youl get a chat ban. Which is another huge reason why riot cant have built in voice comms; THEY CANT MODERATE IT FAIRLY AND JUST LIKE IN OVERWATCH YOU CAN AND WILL GET UNFAIR CHAT BANS BECAUSE THE SALTY PREMADE SAID 'F-U HANZO' .

Speak for yourself, I have hundreds of hours in overwatch and have encountered very few people that were so toxic I was forced to mute them. You get out of it what you put in, if you are friendly and encouraging to your team than most people will return that in kind. If you grump and moan and sigh and complain about everything your team does than they will return that in kind. I almost never have these issues because I am a positive influence in my games and that brings out the best of people instead of the worst.

You are coming at this from the perspective of the worst of humanity and the worst of yourself. Millions upon millions of people use it every day in games and most of them are happy with it and if they have a problem with it for whatever reason it is one button click away from not being a problem.

You want to keep us all in the stone age because you are afraid of the wolf beyond the campfire. It is a sad and lonely mindset that prevents us all from moving forward.

You want to submit everyone to toxicity and forced comm because you dont understand mic etiquette and dont give full credence to just how toxic people are. Listen; a LOT of people who use public comms DO NOT have headsets. They do NOT have good mic etiquette. And most certainly they DO NOT care about the voice comms except for the time when they need to scream "TEAM TEAM TEAM".

You know what ive seen in watching three hundred hours of overwatch and playing over two hundred hours of dota 2 - casual, low rank, and high rank? theres an 80% chance their mic will always be on with a fan, a dog, or other people talking in the background and a 30% chance they wont even speak english.

League of legends is NOT a simple game where you can veg out and shoot the first baddie you see. Unlike HotS and overwatch league of legends has a finely tuned vision system and PING SYSTEM. Use it to communicate and stop whining about "waaaah i need voice chat waaaah" because "everyone else has it mooooooooom!".

League is a better game for not having it. But you wont understand that, because youve clearly never played a competetive game where youve had to deal with open voice comm.

Making up stats on the fly isn't a very good argument. I guarantee I have spent more hours in multiplayer games with voice chat than you and it is nowhere near that level. But keep making up whatever stats you need to validate your hate for the modern age. The world is moving on if you like it or not. Someday this game will have voice chat or it will die out and be the last of its kind. I for myself cannot wait for that glorious day.

"hate for the modern age" Im sorry, what? The modern age is about choice and freedom. Not people being forced to use something they dont want and be subjected to abuse and terrible manners.

Just like in overwatch where i have seen masters players be temp banned for refusing to use voice chat players who stay with better voice comms like discord and teamspeak will likewise be punished if they dont use the built in comms. Further, im not making up statistic like its the gospel truth. Im stating my opinion from watching and playing MANY hours from MANY veiwpoints, even from DotAs prisoner island where i played for a month due to bad internet getting me in trouble.

You contradict yourself with your very first statement. You say you want players to have choice and freedom but you don't want to allow us to have the choice or freedom to use voice chat. You have the choice and freedom to use it or not. Where is our choice and our freedom to use it?

No one has ever been banned for not using voice chat, you are outright lying and making things up. Your statistics are lies as well, 80% of people are not toxic on voice chat all the time or blowing their fans or anything else. That is an exaggerated number to make your point seem stronger than it is. You know it is a lie but you feel like you are in the majority so you feel safe in your lie because you know that there are no real statistics out there so you can't be counter claimed. But I and many others know that that statistic is much lower and that again everyone has the freedom and choice to use the system or not.

You are the one who wants to use the iron fist to keep the rest of us from taking advantage of the modern age. You are the one removing choice and freedom, you are the dictatorship, you are everything wrong with this world and I despise people like you.

You state that you are using your experience from playing a month in prisoner island, and judging all players by that standard. If I went to prison my chance of being raped or stabbed to death would go up 10000% (since we are happy making up numbers I figured I would try it too). Does that mean we should judge all men on the standards of what men in prison do?

Come back when you can set aside your primal instincts and have a logical conversation like a human being.

  1. Youre throwing insults all over.

  2. Freedom and choice means i have the freedom to pursue voice chat on MY terms not yours. I can use discord or team speak with the people I want to use it with.

  3. My "statistics" are opinions based on hundreds of hours of watching and playing. You can call whatever doesnt suit your agenda "a lie" and try your hardest to fling mud at any and all opposition but in the end youre flat wrong for trying to FORCE EVERYONE TO DO SOMETHING YOU WANT.

  4. If you cant moderate it then it shouldnt be a thing in a multiplayer game. Do you know why every MMO with a trading system warns you not to do promises? Because they cant moderate promises. By your logic trading shouldnt have any rules and moderation because its archiac and stone-aged.

  5. Do you SERIOUSLY think ive only ever played DotA 2 in prisoners island or that most of my time was spent there? Are you even listening to yourself at this point? Further, your prison 'thing' isnt an opinion based on anything - youve never been to prison, youre throwing biased, unreasonable words out JUST TO TRY AND THROW SHADE ON MY OPINION which is based on hundreds of hours of experience.

  6. Im done with this thread. Youre not someone who sees other peoples opinions as anything but an affront to your dignity it seems, and will never be persauded that forced voice communication with no moderation and no ability to be properly moderated except on player reports is a terrible, terrible idea.

No one is forced to use it, it is has and always will be optional for everyone. Your lies and made up statistics cannot contradict that simple truth. You are the one who brought up prisoners island and used it as a point of contradiction, and then when I countered it you come back saying it isn't fair for me to use that? I have no problem with differing opinions, but you cannot handle yours being argued, you don't want a middle ground, you want it your way or the highway.

You came into this thread throwing around hyperbole and made up statistics and you left it the exact same way. Your only point is people are mean and therefore we should stay in the stone age because it is safer there and the big bad wolf can't get me. You ignore all counter arguments to that, you ignore the fact that there is a mute button just like with chat. You ignore the fact that it is a completely optional system that no one has ever or will ever be forced to use.

Fear should not be a driving factor in decisions, you are afraid and you want to force your fear onto everyone else. People should not have to use an inconvenient third party system to set up communication with someone they will probably never play with again. Overwatch has millions of players every day that have voice communication and they somehow deal. And if someone is going to be toxic in voice chat there is a good chance they will be toxic in normal chat so you would need to mute them anyways.

I am sorry that you are not able to see beyond your fear, I hope one day you will overcome your burden.

Yes, because it is a self policing system, just like every other game uses. You don't like what you are hearing? Mute button, there you go policed. No one is forced to use it.

I wouldn't mind voice chat IF people used it for its intended purpose. But seeing as we can't even use the resources riot gives us to talk strategy I don't see any reason why they should give us more. Besides any one I've met who wanted to voice chat would just put their discord link in the pregame chat.

Personally, whether we get voice chat or not means almost nothing to me. I'm deaf, so I wouldn't be able to hear it, and I wouldn't be able to respond to people who did.

However, my concern with this sort of thing would be how it's moderated. Can three people randomly decide to report me for failing to communicate because I'm not using it? Could I be banned for literally not being able to participate in a voice channel? Or would the voice channel just be a completely unmoderated free-for-all?

The second option would suck for people who aren't deaf, but I'd be fine with it if that's what everyone wants. As long as I can't be banned for not using it, I support whatever the majority wants.

If you refuse to communicate then yes, you can and would eventually be punished for it. If blizzard is any indication of a 'successfull' voice comms moderation, then all it takes is a handful of games where more than two people report you for abusing or not using the voice comms.

It falls under a "how dare you be different and use something im not you filthy non-whatever i do-er" kind of thing. Like how in smite upper ELO you can be banned for playing off meta... for one game. Even if you win.

More lies, you know you would make a pretty effective politician. Funny thing I almost never use voice chat in overwatch unless I am actively trying to rank up. I go for days just playing music or whatever and never use it. I have never been banned and I could play at top 500 for the next thousand years and not be banned for not using voice chat. No you cannot be banned for not using it. This has never been the case in any game that uses it and never will be. The very idea is absurd, I understand your concern and I am sorry that you would not be able to enjoy the benefits of this system. But I thank you for taking your time to at least write out your thoughts without hyperbole and outright lies. But be at ease, even if this system is someday put in place you will never be targeted for not being able to partake in it. Anyone that claims this isn't the case is lying and you should not believe anything they say.

Just because heros of the storm is a MOBA doesn't mean its community will behave the same. I think this could potentially cause more toxicity... But how will we know if we never try? I'm down for league to try it.

Possibly make it an optional thing. Something you sign into when you start up the client... That way if you don't want to hear it you don't have to turn it on!
